Sometime in the future I might get a backhoe for my ck20. Has anyone priced one lately? Does a non kioti backhoe do as well as the kioti brand (whoever makes it for them)? What backhoe is the easiest to put on and off? I haven't decided if I even need one or not so won't spend the money until I know. Thanks in advance for any advice. Burt

Can't help you much on prices.
For several years Kioti used Rhino for their backhoe supplier.
I run a Rhino 85 w/subframe on my DK 35, that works real nice(see my pictures 5, 15 and 19)
The Rhino 65a with subframe should work on a CK 20.
I believe Kioti is currently making their own backhoes with the Kioti KB2365. ....

I notice in the literature that Kioti gives breakout force for the different backhoes, w/o mention of the tractor it's mounted on. What's that mean?? The same hoe on a 35hp tractor is going to be able to do much more than a 20hp CK20HST. I think that's misleading. Also, the hydraulic flow rate is much higher on the CK20HST than say..Kubota BX23, but then Kubota has 2 pumps. Does the Kioti?, and if not, then that pump is used for everything. ....

Matt,
I'm not sure what you mean about the backhoe litterature being missleading.
They give the digging force of each individual backhoe.
A 6 1/2' backhoe mounted on a larger tractor will not have any more digging force than it would on the smaller CK 20. ....

Vince,

Are you saying that tractor horsepower does not contribute to the digging power of the hoe? Isn't the backhoe's power a function of the flow rate/supplied through tractor horsepower?
Matt ....

The flow rate (gallons/minute)controls the speed of the backhoe. To few GPM and the backhoe will be slow, to many GPM and the backhoe will be to fast, jumpy and harder to control.
The relief valve on the backhoe controls the digging power.
The KB2365 backhoe has a relief setting of 2150 PSI. IF the backhoe is mounted on a machine that produces 2150 PSI or more( requardless of horsepower), the backhoe will still relief at 2150 PSI. You will get no more digging power on a larger machine with that size backhoe than on a smaller machine as long as the smaller machine can produce the 2150 PSI.
Sorry if my explanation makes no sence. ....

MattDavid,
With a greater flow the implements would move faster, but the force applied is controlled by the pressure the pump can supply. If both tractors can supply the same pressure, then the one with more GPM couldn't move anything heavier than the one with less flow. You would get more work done with the larger pump, but only as a result of quicker lifting and dumping action.
Just my 2-cents,
bliz
DK, you beat me in both speed and clarity! ....

Example.
If I have a 6 1/2' backhoe with a relief setting of 2150 PSI.
I mount the backhoe to a mid sized tractor that can produce 2300 PSI, the backhoe reliefs out at 2150 PSI so I am getting all the power that backhoe can produce. Mounting this backhoe on a larger machine will make no differance in digging power. ....

Vince & Blizzard,
Thanks for the explanation (and the education). The digging force is controlled by the relief valve setting rating, extra energy is bypassed back to the system, as long as the tractor mounted hydraulic pump can produce the same (or greater) output as the relief setting of said backhoe. And I guess relief valves are chosen based on the physical stress limitations of the hoe's components. That will help me make my choice.

mattdavid,
Yes, you got it.
If you want a backhoe with more digging force you will need a bigger backhoe. But then a bigger hoe requires a larger tractor to handle it.

Your last explanation on the digging force and relief valves was better than mine !! ....
