Could I get a little advise? I own a Yanmar 1500D and the front axles were leaking pretty good. I replaced the front seals but only the right side stopped leaking, the left leaks worse than it did before! BTW, this side has the pitman arm off the steering attached to it. What now?

Was there a groove where the seal lip runs? Does the front have any free play? You may have bad bearings. ....

Thanks for the reply Len, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. There is no groove, but there is indeed play however. The play is not side to side but strictly up and down. It looks like I might need to add a couple of washers under the pitman arm to eliminate, but would this throw off my pinion alignment? ....

Adding shims under the pitman arm shouldn't throw off the pinion alighment. ....

You need to go back to the axle and correctly adjust the bearing preload. There are a series of nuts to accomplish this. Tighten the nuts until you can start feeling the bearing chatter and then back off slightly until it feels smooth. This will eliminate the wobble (unless the bearing has totally fail and fallen out of the cage). If there was any undercutting from the old seal, the new one won't fare any better. Install a Redi sleve to provide a new wear surface. ....
