I am shopping for a new/used tractor. I just moved to 10 acres and plan to some do dirt work to install some retaining walls and need to be able to rototill and level some of the yard. I have 1.5 acres of manicured lawn which I would like to be able to use whatever I buy to mow. The pasture is grass which I plan to brush hog. I am fairly patient so power is not a major factor but I do plan to get a loader and box blade to do some dirt work. I have looked at JD 4100/4200/4300, Kubota L3010/b7400/b2700? The 4200/4300/ L3010 seem a little large to mow a yard. Any comments will be appreciated. I am confused. To help others, prices are as follows: With 5' brushhog, 5.5 'box blade,16' trailer, industrial tires and loader L3010 - $18,640, JD4300 - $19380. Cheaper would be good!!

Have you considered a grey market tractor. I deal in the Yanmar brand. They made the John Deere tractors for them for several years and now make the driveline. A Yanmar with 400-700 hrs the same size as you quoted would run about $4000-$5000 for the tractor. I am in Southern Illinois. If I am not close to you mail me and I will refer you to someone closer if I can. ....

I have a JD4100, and it is a dandy size for mowing. With loader, this unit can be had for under $14,000. It will only handle a 4 foot bushhog though, so you'll have to judge for yourself if this is OK. It will do anything you mentioned, just takes longer than the larger units. Also for around the same money, you can get a JD790, which is 10 more HP than the JD4100, but is only available with gear tranny. ....
