Dwight, I decided to trade the 4300 for a 4600 for a number of reasons. I plan on purchasing a pto powered brush chipper later this year and the additional 10 horsepower should be helpful. I also use my tractor for some custom mowing. I mow about 6 acres (which is mainly an open area with minimal obstacles) once a week. I currently have the 60" mower on the 4300. I expect to gain some productivity with the bigger mower. I use my 4300 with the 430 loader several times each week moving dirt. The larger capacity of the 460 loader and the heavier 4600 should help some. The mower and loader use is the main reason I like the Hydro. The 4300 is great tractor (once the new MFWD axle is installed). When I test drove a 4600 on a dealers lot I was quite impressed with how smooth the 4 cylinder engine was. It appears to be actually quieter than the 3 cylinder 4300 (and the JD specs in their sales literature agree). I haven't made the final decision on the purchase yet. I continue to ask for input from other 4600 owners.

Terry,

I am also interested in the 4600 and before placing the 4 in 1 loader and scapper box on it was around $18k. I also checked the 1070 and 4500. The 1070 is the older model of the 4600. The 4500 and 4600 I like for the power reverser capability. Someone else on this board mentioned the 5105 jd. That tractor is new and 40 hp @ pto and about 1000 lbs heavyer. Although it is a less expensive tractor it will be more costly considering the 4600 has some hours on the leases (there are several 4600, 4500 and 1070's at my local jd dealership. If you don't mind a little extra clutching (reverse to forward etc) you can save at least $4,000 over the 4600.
