For people who have limited water sources: We put out a fire in a 1/2-ton truck on the highway yesterday and it was the first time we used foam equipment.

The truck was fully engulfed although the gas tank remained intact. The 750-gallons carried by our pumper truck was enough to put it out but with very little to spare. Good thing too since at that time we didn't have enough volunteers to run a hose line from a nearby lake and couldn't stop foaming the truck either. The truck ended up pretty much as a melt down.

It is truly amazing how much further water goes when using foam. A bystander told me that he had a vehicle burn up pretty much in front of a fire station and they weren't able to out it out. He didn't say if gas was burning though.

We weren't running the truck pump very hard and foam equipment suitable for some of the pumps discussed here may well be available. Anybody who is concerned about containing relatively small fires and has only limited water sources might check this stuff out.
