 Backhoe has paid for itself

In April I had some estimates done for sveral projects around the house, mostly drainage projects and a footer for a wrap around porch. All requiring a backhoe. The total of all estimates was around $10,000.00. I decided to buy my own hoe for my TC33D and do the work myself. The hoe cost $4995.00, I just finished the 3rd of 4 projects yesterday with a total cost of about $5500.00 including hoe and materials. I still have to do the footer but at this time the hoe has already paid for itself. The estimate for the 3 projects completed was $6200.00. I also had alot of fun playing I mean working with the hoe.

I'm still trying to dream up the right project that would convince the CFO that a backhoe would pay for itself. Good work to you!

By the way, that is a sweat Farmall Cub you've got there. What is the large white canister for? I haven't seen that on other Cubs.

 Backhoe has paid for itself

drcjv, It's getting almost impossible to get anyone with a regular backhoe or excavating service to do small jobs anymore. They have to charge about as much for a half hour job as a half day just to cover their road time. So with all that I decided to buy a regular sized used Deere or Case hoe. After shopping around I found that if you did'nt sprnt 25 to 40 thousand all you got was a worn out problem to take home. I ended up buying the # 48 Deere. I still have to hire a swing hoe now and then for the real big jobs, but we use the #48 so much around the farm that I never take it off, I bought the 4410 to replace the 4310 that the hoe is on, best money I ever spent. Frank.

Beagle thanks for the compliment. The cub was my father's he bought it new in 1953. When I was seven years old my brother took the tractor out when my parents were'nt home. I was standing on the mower deck he popped the clutch and I fell off and under the left rear wheel. I broke my collar bone and had a collapsed lung. About 5 years ago I restored the tractor and gave it back to my dad for fathers day. The large hopper is a side dresser it is for applying fertilizer not many originals still exist because the fertilizer ate through the metal. IH eventually made the hoppers out of plastic. Hardwood sounds like you are enjoying your hoe as much as I am. Keep playing I mean working yeah working with those toys I mean tractors.
