Ford 1900 4WD front end question

If I turn the front wheels back and forth on my Ford 1900, you can see about 1/8 to 1/4 in play between the front and rear carrier bracket and the gear housing. I don't see any way to take up this play as all the bolts are tight. Is there supposed to be any play there or is this something that needs to be corrected? Any help will be appreciated. Tony
