I just found a replacement shock for the steering unit on ebay. It is selling for 39.00 a lot less than what new holland wants. #7517254885

Mine was going all the way forward so I figured it was still good even though it wouldn't lock. I sprayed the top end of the strut where the release handle goes into it with Liquid Wrench, let it set for awhile. Meantime, I tried to hammer out the small pin that holds the release handle. Before I could even get the pin out or move, all that shaking apparently loosened up the plunger that goes into the strut. Now it works fine. ....
