Hey guys,

I have a Long 460 that I inherited from my grandfather. He had removed the wires to the starter except for the ground and the wire going to the battery (he just always shorted across the solenoid to start). I would like to get the wiring hooked back up, but I have no idea where the two wires hook. there is one with a larger metal ring that I believe hooks to the same terminal as the battery wire, but I have no idea where the other wire with the smaller connector goes. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Keith

There should be a smaller terminal on the starter solenoid that would be to supply 12 volts to the solenoid to activate it. I would think your grandfather would have replaced a switch if that were bad. One thing if after putting the wire on, if it will not kick in, you may have to pull the solenoid apart and fix whatever is wrong in there. Could be contacts, hard to say.
The smaller wire should go to the solenoid. Probably a spade lug or a screw on connector. ....

Ok, thanks. You would just have to have known my grandfather. Loved the man to death, but he was hard on tractors. I currently have a pushbutton switch wired up to it, so I know the solenoid is working, I would just like to get everything back so that the switch actually works and the guages work. I will see if I can figure out where it needs to go.

Thanks,

Keith ....
