 B7200 Sand Spreader WTB

Hi All,

I am looking to buy a used sand/seed spreader for my B7200. Is it possible to hook up one of the 12v models that are available or do I have to get a PTO driven or ground driven model? Any help on this would be greatly apprectiated.

Thanks
Frank

I don't imagine that the alternators on most compacts would carry a 12V sand-spreader. Compact alternators tend to be rated around 35A compared to maybe 200A for a heavy-duty alternator on a truck. I think that most truck-type spreaders would work on a tractor until the battery ran down.

Sand weighs a lot so 3ph capacity might limit the capacity of a 3ph spreader. It could end up being a lot of trips and shoveling in the sand pile. Actually, they have to be sand sheds here or the sand ends up frozen solid. It's -25F this morning. For pull models that wouldn't put a lot of weight on the 3ph, lack of traction might limit how big a pull type could be used. If they could be driven backwards then at least there'd be the sand for traction, but for a pull model it probably would be like spending a day backing up a short tongued utility trailer.

A spreader probably on a small compact is a good idea but there may be a few things to think about.

The 12v model I was thinking about are advertised for ATV's. I agree about the weight and shoveling, but what I do now is place a 5 gallon buckets into my weight box on the 3ph, drive 20 feet, get off and spread by hand, then move another 20 feet and so on. Even if I have to make mulitple trips to the garage to dump a fresh 5 gallon bucket into a spreader, it is better than my current situation. I usually try to keep 6 or 7 buckets of sand available in my garage at any given time and it takes 3 buckets to sand the "bad" part of my driveway.

Yes that does sound better than what you have to do now. I'd still check the tractor's alternator rating. Many tractors have 10A accessory outlets ready to go if 10A is adequate. For heavier circuits, it's not too difficult to run a line directly from the battery through in in-line located close to the battery.

I ran a circuit from the battery for my two 55W work lights and a magnetic flasher. I cut the cigaret lighter adapter off the flasher and put AC twist-lock plug and installed a receptacle for it in the aux lighting circuit. That way I don't have to operator the tractor around cords dangling from the cigarette lighter and don't have to worry about knocking the plug loose. I don't suppose it's entirely safe but I got carried away and cut the clips off a battery trickle charger and put on a twist lock plug so I can charge the battery through the lighting circuit by just plugging it in. I think that all my junky box store cigarette lighter gadgets may be at risk, but the cost of twist locks will slow me down as soon as I run out the old plugs left over from my sound and lighting buz days.

I'm just taking a guess that what are described as a carry-all might be pretty good for mounting a small spreader on the 3ph.
