I have a L3010 with backhoe. The backhoe has a chain (much like a motorcycle chain) which is part of the mechanism which allows the boom to swing from right to left. Should this chain be greased occasionally? Nowhere in the manual does it say anything about this.

Frank that chain that looks like a motorcycle chain should have some type of lubricant. A type of chain oil would do well from time to time to keep it from rusting to much. ....

You might want to ask the dealer if that is one of the new sealed chains - like the new O-ring chains that have lifetime lubrication. On those chains I've heard that external lube just attracts dirt. My own backhoe has a chain for the swing movement. It is an old style MC chain, so I used to lube it with motorcycle chain spray every year or two whether it needed it or not....
About 5 years ago I decided to drastically cut back on the lube in the loader and backhoe pivots as well as all external low speed joints. Frankly, I just got tired of the greasy mess. My reasoning is that those parts have easily replaceable pins and bushings anyway....and I'm not sure that the grease and sand mix is not just as abrasive or more so than a dry pivot. Either way, it is looking like it will take a decade or two of constant work before any wear is noticeable. ....
