 Stabilizer Bar Bent

I am new (about a year) to this tractor thing and have put about 72 hours on my B2710 hogging with a Woods 60" rotary cutter and doing some driveway work with a rear scraper blade. I have already managed to bend the male portion of the telescoping stabilizer bar (right side) of the three point hitch. Not sure just how or when I did it but think it happened when I backed into a fence with the cutter. It was a wire fence and it gave so I didn't think much about it until later I noticed the male bar was bent upwards about 45 degrees at the end of the female sleeve. Is this a weak point on the hitch? Soft metal? Has anyone else had this problem? I didn't think I was being that hard on my equipment. I ordered a new stabilizer bar from my dealer for $10.95 and an extra just in case.

Woodie, I bent the left one on my B2710 (but I know what I did - something stupid, so I won't go into that), but I just took the pins out, pulled it out, laid it on a piece of railroad track that I use for an anvil, straightened it with a 4lb. hammer and put it back. No big deal.

I'm glad to hear the stabilizer bar on the 2710 is no big deal. My nephew bent mine trying to push over a 12" BOID D ARC stump!!!!! Not only that, but the finish mower was on the back and it bent the deck on that as well!!!

I guess he thought tractors were stronger than they are. That stump is still there and will take a D6 to get rid of it.

When you loan your tractor out (or let other people do YOUR work with it) be sure and explain that its not a bulldozer.

Alan, I don't guess I know of anything harder to get rid of than a bois d'arc stump. I've just got one, about 2' tall, and 18" diameter. It was hard enough on the chainsaw cutting the tree down, right in the fence row, of course. I imagine it's just going to be there for a long time.

Webmaster, interesting anomaly. I got the e-mail notification of Alan L. Lewis's message in this thread, but don't find it on the list for "Today". I don't know whether any other messages might be missing from the list.

Woodie, I backed into a tree with my rear blade attached and bent the right side male bar in the upward direction. I ordered one from my local dealer for $9.95 however, it was on back order. I got creative, took it apart and bent it flat again and it has held up well. Along with that I also bent the top draw bar pretty bad! To replace it with a Kabota, $159.00....to replace it with an aftermarket version from the local Tractor Supply Company, $22.95! The way I see it, I can bend and buy 4 more before I tell myself I should have bought the kubota part! Good Luck!
