I have a M5400 with end loader. I was pushing some brush around the edge of the lake Sunday and had some hydraulic problems. At first I thought it could be that I moved the remote hydraulic handle to the out position. According to the operating manual this can cause the fluid to overheat.
The boom up hydarulic line popped. I disconnected the end loader so I could keep mowing but all the hydraulics started going out, even the power steering.
I talked briefly to the nearest Kubota dealer and they thought it could be the pressure relief valve. Does this sound right? Where is the PRV? Open to suggestions.

From time to time the hydraulic lift lever for the hitch might get out of adjustment and it will leave the pump on high but yet things don't work right. You might be having the hitch on demand but with no place to go! ....

I forgot to say that when the tractor was idling the engine would drop 300 or 400 rpm about every 10 seconds like something was cycling on and loading up the engine. First problem I've had with the tractor, but it only has 400 hours. ....

Try moving your three point lever to a lower position then at the top and see if it makes a difference. ....

I tried moving all the hydraulic controls. 3 point lift will not come off the ground. If I connect the broken hose on the front end loader fluid will pump out (which leads me to believe the hyd. pump is working. I am thinking about changing the hydraulic oil, filters and replacing the broken hose to see if that does it before putting it in the shop.
If anyone has seen this before, your comments would be appreciated. ....

Your problem is possibly an internal one that isn't the pump. You said the tractor is like surging which is the pump being signaled that it needs more oil pumped because you have an open circuit. That is where your oil is going instead of the loader as that is the priority over the loader circuit. I'm hoping your three point hitch valve is open. ....
