 B7500 vs JD4100

I am relatively new to the compact tractor market and am looking for recommendations on pros and cons of these 2 tractors. I've had a 9N for a few years and want to get a real machine to take care of my 10 acre home. Loader and mid mount mower will be bought with the tractor. Help will be appreciated.

I don't know the HP on the B7500 but the 4100 "might" be a bit too small depending on exactly what you are going to be doing. I have a 4100 and it is nice for the lawn and small jobs and can handle the larger implements but it is pushing its limit. But if you go any larger on the 4000 series you run into problems with those since only the 4100 was mostly of Japanese design and manufacture. I also have a Kubota L4310 and would probably purchase a Kubota now if I were looking again at a smaller tractor. However, as I have said before, I don't think it is wise to go too large since they become unwieldy, more costly, use more fuel and are harder on lawns.

Thanks for the info, The B7500 is rated 21 hp 16hp pto for the Hst and 17 hp for the gear. I also have apprx. 2.5 acres of lawn and need to do a substantial amount of landscape(loader) work.

Walt, I don't disagree with droz; too big can be unwieldy, but I used a B7100HSD (16hp and 13 PTO hp) on my 10 acres for 4 years (mowed the 2.5 to 3 acre yard with a riding lawn mower). I got a lot of work done with the B7100, tiller, brush hog, box blade, loader, etc., but a year ago I traded up to a B2710 and also got a rear discharge finish mower to go with it. Now I can get the work done faster, easier, and more comfortably. And I certainly don't think it's too big.

Walt, I look after a 10 acre steep, hilly pasture and approx 3 acres of lawn at the house. I was in this market about 1-1/2 years ago and basically looked at the two models you are considering, JD 4100 and Kubota B2100. I moved up to the B2400 for the few extra hp and a few hundred dollars more and haven't regretted it. For me the B2400 is almost ideal. It has just enough hp to handle a 4' bush hog on the pasture slopes and is not too big and heavy to run over the yard/lawn. I have a 3-pt, rear discharge finishing mower which works very well and the FEL is simplicity itself. If you dont mind a little extra weight compacting the lawn (about 500 pounds, I think), I would probably step up to the B2710. For a comparable Deere you are looking at the 4200 or larger with all their associated problems. They may have them fixed by now but somehow I doubt it. I have no personal experience with the NH Boomers but from what I have read and been told, they are worth a serious look too. In short, I think both the machines you are looking at will do the job but you might be a little happier if you went a little larger, especially with a lot of loader work to do.

Walt, Have you driven either of these tractors yet? Did you try the NH TC21D? Are you looking for HST or gear? I have 10 acres and a NH TC35D (5000 lbs with loader and fluid filled rears). I realize that's not for everyone but I don't think my tractor is too big.

Knowing a bit more about what you want to leads me to also recommend a bit more HP. I think 25-27 HP would be a good compromise for your acreage and tasks. But, as I have stated, using my 43 HP Kubota to try to cut grass around my trees and outbuildings is a lesson in frustration; it is too big. And, if you are going bigger than the 4100, I would recommend the Kubotas (or maybe the NH); as stated in other posts, the 4000 series has far too many problems right now and who knows what will be developing down the line.

Walt.....if you would like to stay with JD.......have you also considered the JD 790...has 30 hp or 25 pto hp. with 4 WD, you also get continuous live pto...bout the same price as 4100.....right now I am wrestling with this very decision....the 16 pto hp scares me a little on the 4100......but..I want to make use of a 5' tiller..so....so long as I don't lose too much in manoeuvrablity cutting around obstacles.....
