I purchased a used John Deere 425 tractor with a 54" belly mower. I do not have the manuals. Can someone tell me how to un-hook the PTO from the mower deck?

Just reach under the tractor from the left side, slide the collar back that is around the locking connector to the PTO stub from the transmission of the tractor (under the seat). This allows the shaft to slide off the splines. ....

Aldo, kay described it correctly, but sometimes it is hard to pull back straight on the PTO shaft. When mine is hard to remove, it is usually because I can't get the right angle to pull back on. Try rotating the shaft a little also, that might help. The locking collar kay described is at the very end of the PTO shaft and is not obvious if you haven't encountered this type of arrangement before. ....
