Well I broke the handle on the JM-180
differential lock.
I took out the roll pin on the
activation pawl ans now I can't
get the pawl on far enough on the
shaft to reattach the pin.
Are there any tricks?
Who might be a supplier that would
have a new handle.
I would also purchase the pawl if
it made the connection beter.

We have the handles in stock,when you removed the pin
it has slipped inside,if you cannot get it back with some plyers you may have to remove the hydraulic lift box.

Thanks;
As I see it, the shaft is just a spinning
point to which the handle rotates. The pawl
on the shaft fitting pushes against the
differential lock button.
The shaft rotates freely and can be pulled
outwards and can slip inwards which it
does when I attempt to slide the handle/pawl
assembly back on.
I seem to have no way to hold the shaft while I
slide the pawl on. The closest I can get is to
be able to see the edge of the hole in the roll pin
slot.
I know it must fit tight so that the pawl can
apply force to the button, but this is rediculious.
I am thinking to drill a small hole in the end
of the shaft and tap a small screw so that I can
have something to grab to pull out the shaft when
I reattach the pawl.
Am I right?
O r am I missing something?

It's not a real big job to pull the hydraulic lift box off to fix it, you could do as you say but I think it would be easier to pull the box.Either way let me know if we can help you

The pin was lost out of my NT254 before I got it. The previous owner put a nut pick in the hole.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE HYDRALIC LIFT BOX.
There are two bolts holding the bracket on the side of the rear end. Remove the bolts and take the assembly off. Remove the shaft the engaugement lever is pined to and replace it with a 7/16 bolt long enough to go through the bracket and the lever then put a locking nut on the bolt and tighten it so it is snug but moves freely. You will have to grind or machine off the bolt head so it fits in the recess in the bracket. I just put the bracket in my mill and bored out the recess to fit a socket to hold the bolt. Now put it back on the rear end with some very sticky grease(I used some black tar gear and cable grease)on the area where the lever cam and button head are to make it move smoothly. It will work great now.

So what you sre saying is to replace
the shgaft with a bolt that will pass
thru the plate and pawl. Forget about the
roll pin and just put a washer and nut,
or double nut to hold the pawl tight but
still rotate.
If i take off the two bolts do I loose
fluid?
And do I have to try to seal the 7/16 bolt
so it does not leak?
Or is it dry?

Corvetteguy, I have a NT254 which is a Jinma 254 and you have a Jinma 180. I have not seen a JM-180 but if it is like mine the lever that locks the rear wheels together is on the right side below the seat on the housing just above the axle housing. There are two bolts that hold the bracket with the pivot pin and lever. Mine did not leak when I removed the bolts. It is a small bracket and the bolts are hard to get to. What the lever does is to push a rod sticking out of the rearend housing in and that locks the rear wheels together. All the pivot pin does is to hold the lever against the bracket so the lever can push the rod in with a cam action. Yes, you don't need a roll pin just the bolt and you can double nut it or use locktite on it. Make it just tight enough that it don't have slop when you rotate the lever and remount the bracket and lever assy. Be sure to grease the cam area on the lever and put a dab of grease on the ball end of the rod sticking out of the rear end housing.
I have an idea. If you want me to I will take a photo of mine and post it as a Tractor Mod. on Chinese Tractor Owners Association web site. I am not sure if it is like yours or not. Affordable indicates that you have to remove the hyd. lift box so maybe you do on your tractor.
Ok, if the shaft has slipped into the housing take a strong magnet and put it against the end and wiggle it around while pulling and work it back out. Clean off the shaft real good. Clean the hole in the lever real good. Now take a long thin bladed utility knife and hold it against the shaft at the housing with the pin hole aligned so you can put a pin in it when you slip the lever on. Now hold the knife blade hard against the shaft and work the lever on the shaft and install the pin.
Call Affordable at their shop to see if the JM254 and JM180 use the same method of mounting the lever.

Mine sounds just like the bigger model.
The pin is still sticking out through the
plate so I might be able to slide the lever
over and hold with a knife.
I ordered new parts from afordable.
I just might put a small screwdriver through the
roll pin hole and use a right angle drill to
drill and tap a bolt hole on the end of the
pin to help in installing.
I'll remember to use grease.

That's good. I got to thinking about it and Tommy at Affordable Tractor knows more about the models than I do so when he said you have to take the top off he is right. when the pin falls out or breaks again it may be better to pull the top and use a bolt like I suggested. It will last longer than the pin.
