 Bad Glow Plugs On 7265

I just wanted to know if anybody else has had bad glow plugs in their tractors. I have a Cub 7265 with only 12 hrs. on it and the glow plugs were bad. The tractor started fine in October when the weather was not too cold. Come December and with the temp it the 20s forget about getting this tractor started. The dealer knew right away what the problem was and sent a guy out with new glow plugs. All of the glow plugs had expanded and one had expanded so much it was really difficult to get out! Boy, I hope I don't have this problem again it only took 12 hrs. Does anybody know why this happens and has it happend to anybody else?

 Bad Glow Plugs On 7265

Glow plugs usually are extremely reliable. I think mine have been there for almost 20 years. If it's a problem I imagine the factory will do a parts substitution. Champion plugs are pretty generic. You might ask the dealer but I wouldn't do any substitution myself if it's under warranty.

As an emergency idea, block heaters will get some engines warm enough so they'll start without glow plugs if its not too cold.

Grizzly, we are a Cadet dealer and it isn't normal for faliure in that time period at all. I would wonder of some reason for the failure of more then one in such a short period of time. I think Tom has gotten excellent life from his but are you using them for longer then the proper time? I haven't check service bullitins to see if the manufacturer built a bad batch but that could also be a problem as they are normally not built by a tractor manufacturer.

Art,

Hi and thanks for the reply. I don't know how I could use the glow plugs longer than the proper amount of time though the thought has crossed my mind. On my 7265 the first position to the right on the ignition switch heats the glow plugs. When the yellow indicator light on the control panel goes out after aprox 5 seconds I turn the ignition switch to the start position. This is all there is to it and she fires up if the glow plugs are working like they should. I'm so stranger to diesel tractors. My Kubota is 10 yrs old and I have never had a problem with its glow plugs. In warm weather I may only have to glow plug the engine once unless I leave the tractor sit all day long from its first use of the day. I hope it was just a bad batch of glow plugs. Maybe they were manufactured out of the wrong type of material or something, I don't know, thanks.

Grizz

 Bad Glow Plugs On 7265

I have a 1995 Cadet model 7275. I've never had problems with glow plugs. It usually starts without them until it gets in the teens. I store mine in a dirt floor section of the barn. I think it was just one of those freak situations.
