 Leaking 1811 Hydrostat

I have seen others on different forums with the same problem. I am not sure while mowing, but when I park my Cub 1811 the Hydrostat leaks fluid all over the floor, I have to refill 4 or 5 times per season. looks like it comes from the relief valves......HELP

Jack, your top cover can be removed with just four bolts and you can look down on the transmission easily and see where the leaks are if they are on the top. There is also one line on the bottom that often is the culprit and it might need a little tightening or the be replaced. The filters have leaked from time to time.

I have checked the lines and the filter, I have also removed an took at look at the check valves and see no problem but it appears to come from the little hole in the check valves

Jack, does your tractor run away? Go faster down hill like free wheeling? That is what those valves take care of one for forward and one for reverse. I haven't seen much for leaks out of those but they are easy to remove and they may need servicing. Some had a tit that came out to that with a lever would allow you to push them. Some of them are automatic at this point. Those are, last of my recollection about an $70 piece. Take the time to see if something is frozen up causing the problem. I don't think they are the problem unless the unit is running when you notice the leak.

No, It seems to be fine going up and down hills, except the other day when she was low on fluid, it took all she had to go up a hill, Is there any pressure after shut down that can bleed thru the check valves, I cant find a leak anywhere but there, Maybe I will run it for a while, then sit and watch it for a while, I am not sure how long it takes, but overnight I can have a 12" dia pool of oil on the floor, what a mess!!!

Jack, so to speak when it isn't running it won't build pressure. I would not be doing anymore runs up a hill low on oil then you have to. A hydro transmission will run indefinitly when luberication is not a problem, but when there is no lubrication then it can also be very expensive to fix.

Dont plan on that happening again, just had to get it back to the garage for a fill up on oil, didnt realize it was low, as the problem didnt occur till going up a hill, Havent had a chance to check for further leaks yet as its been rainy and cold. will let you know what I see.

 Leaking 1811 Hydrostat

I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!

The 2 check valves on top of the hydrostat is where the oil was flowing out of when the engine was running, even an idle. I removed them and replaced the O-Rings and all is well.....so far (knock on wood) Thanks for all who helped!
