Couldn't stay tractorless for long, about drove me crazy. Bought a Case 580se loader backhoe 4x4 cab extendahoe. Compared to the John Deere 110 it's kinda like a dinasour but alot of power, I'm getting used to it, but I don't think it will ever have the agility and balance of the JD. Even though I had alot of problems with the first JD 110 the second one really proved to be a very well designed machine for it's size with just a few minor flaws.

Hey there, I am still looking for a full sized how. I am fussy about options and insist on a 4 in 1 bucket with forks, 4x4 and extendo. there are a bunch of cases for sale lately that fit that bill. do any of the case hoes have real hoe controls or are they all these 4 lever turds.

Those two are definitely different sizes! They both have different places they can work as well as how much can be done! Have you tried or looked at the new L-39? They are smaller then the 110 but yet the hoe works so much faster. You did loose some flexibility there with the loss of the use of the three point.

The newer Case has either the 4 stick or 2 stick. Depending on how much you are looking to spend look at a New Holland 555E or a JCB 214. You could probably find either one the way you are looking for and in decent shape for around $35,000 to $40,000.

Denwood, my Case is the same as a Deere or a Woods backhoe, left lever is boom in and out left and right the left stick is dipper in and out curl in curl out. Case makes about five choices, even swing left right with foot controll, four stick, two stick etc. I jumped right in this one and was right at home, ran a Kabelco excavator the other day with the stick and boom reversed as a Cat is, takes some getting used to but that is now the most common set up.

Art you are right. What was getting me discouraged was that the case wasn't as agile as the JD110. But the 110 is probably one of the most agile machines around, I could work circles around a skid steer. BUT the Case rips out harwood trees whole, roots and all in one pass up to 6" in diameter. It does load a wheeler with the hoe or bucket, and now that I got a few pointers from a former Case owner I am getting the backdraging down with the loader. I guess there is no perfect machine, maybe thats why we should own several. I am beginning to like the machine so thats a good sign. Denwood my Case will be forsale soon, I just have a few more jobs to do for others and a few for myself then it is going up forsale. I don't keep anything too long.

It is really all what you are used to but the 2 stick just seems so natural and almost instinctive. I tried the excavator setup and it took some getting used to but many machines now have a switch to goe back and forth between patterns. My takeuchi was switched to backhoe mode before I bought it and must have had to have the hoses swaped around since the switch was not an option in 97. I really do love the JCBs and one is going at Richie brothers auction here in late june. It has 4 in 1 but not ehoe or forks but there is the mounts for forks. I figure it will bring 9-11,000 so I may buy it

lucerne, I joke about skid steers being a gigantic hydraulic pump with wheels but very useful for the right jobs. There is a knack to running most things and one of the most frustrating for me was getting onto a case with the foot swing! Give me the old four stick over that unit!

Art, they're a motorized dust pan. Only thing I can see they are good for is in a barn with a cement floor for cleaning up manure. Or moving material for landscapers in tight spots.

A ($40,000) motorized dust pan? errr? They're the best thing since sliced bread!!!!

I have a 2005 New Holland LS185.b with steel tracks and several attachments not the least being an industrial gapple bucket. I use it 10 times more than my backhoe. I do anything from demolish homes, transport concrete to back yards for other contractors, dig stumps in seconds with pallet forks, clear land, rough and final grade, and remove concrete driveways---speaking of which used to take me a whole day with a backhoe chasing the concrete chunks around with a bucket to do a 1000 sq ft. driveway. I can do one in 30 minutes with the skid steer. The other day I dug my neighbor's pit for his septic tank. I also drill 18" diameter piers for manufactured homes--the other guys tried and failed using a backhoe with an auger on the hoe. Deepest holes I have drilled were (6) 24" diameter and 13' deep with extensions. As far as travel speed---it will do about 17mph with the tracks on.
