Belarus 250AS Stripped bolt holes on Axle housing

I had a problem with my rear axles this year. I guess I was lucky that they were not stripped out. I lost bolts and the ones that didn't fall out were backed out a lot and only barely in. I was not able to move the tractor from the field because a axle broke. After I got the bolts back in I got it to the shop by having the diff lock in as I drove it, try that to get it home. I replaced all the studs and used tread lock, red for the housing and blue for the nuts, so far ok.

Post pics and let us know how you make out.

here is a link to a zip file of the photos I took when I had one apart. I will also add the links to manuals if you need them. you may try putting some locktight that they make for sleeves or one that fills large gaps to get it where you can work on it. You didn't say if it came apart at the transmission or the reduction housing.

Thanks for the info. The bolts are pulling out from
the large flange for the axel housing that bolts to the
side of the main body. Big round flange with around 6 or
7 bolts.
I went out and started it up and jacked up the axel so the bolts start to go back into their holes. I tightened them up
and while I had that back tire up and off the ground.
I try again to see if the back wheels will turn, NO they
won't . I can let the clutch out and run the PTO
to the tiller that is still attached and it works ok.

But I can't get the back wheels to turn. So clutch is ok
just no power getting to the back wheels.
Some people talk about a plate in back

maybe clamp on shaft from clutch to transmission broke. there is square plate near hydraulic pump. take it down and you'll be able to check it there.

Ive never known about that and if that would have anything
to do with this.

What ever gets the power to the wheels is not workingSmile

Hope its not to hard to replace.

It is not the clamp on the shaft, power is passing through the transmission if the pto works. Did the loss of power happen when the bolts backed out? Did you try the diff lock when you looked for the wheels turning? The power will go to the wheel with the least resistance and if the axle is broken like with mine then the stub turns inside the tube and nothing seems to be happening. When the lock is pressed down then both axles are forced to turn together. Were you able to turn the wheel by hand when it was raised?

You will need to pull the axle off when you get it to where you can work on it. I used a transmission jack and cut blocks of wood, screw the blocks together, to fit the shape of the reduction housing, then used a ratchet strap to hold the gear housing to the block and jack. Worked good because you can adjust the jack to line things up without grunt force. One from HF works fine.

Good time to replace the brakes if needed. I would reline the old ones with material from McMaster-Carr, the replacement bands ends are not shaped right and I had a real hassle to replace and get them to work, redo the originals.

Good luck and thanks for the pic. keep us posted.

Yes tried the Diff lock, nothing happened.
Yes Im able to turn the tire wheel by hand like its in neutral.
Come to think of it was in neutral before I climb into the seat and
put it in gear and let the clutch out but no wheel turn, just the
PTO turns the tiller.
I will have to jack it up and put it in gear and see if the wheel
still turns. I haven't tried that.Smile

Is there a axle that is on each wheel left and right.
If its broke on one side why does the other wheel not
work either.
I thought it might be stuck in neutral but did all the
steps Ive done in the past and didn't work this time.
Earlier that day it did jump out of gear a couple of times.
It hadn't done that for a long time.
So to get into it I would take the wheel off then take the whole
housing off that is held by these bolts that are not holding now.
I split this tractor 10 years ago but have never been inside the
back wheel housing areaSmile I do have a repair book and cataloge book that shows
parts diagrams of it. I use for the clutch replacement.

The power quit while I was tilling and bolts I had not checked them for
a bit and guess they had been backing out that day.

It may be kicking out of gear, did you have it in high or low range? High kick out easy, one of mine had a problem with that. Low will not normally kick out because it engages better.

Each side has a axle shaft and they are different, all the other parts are interchangeable side to side but the axle is not.

The differential sends power to the axle with least resistance. When my axle broke it turned that shaft but it didn't do anything. the diff lock does just that, it locks both axles together and they turn as one at the same speed. that is why it is had to turn when they are locked. so if you have power to the transmission, pto works, and nether wheel turns when having it in locked, then ether h/l or, f/r or the main gear is in neutral.

take a look at the zip file of pictures I linked of the broken axle and here is some of the problem I had with high kicking out along with a brake job. they might help to see what it looks like before you get into it.

I was in a higher gear moving a little faster.
In the past if it jump out of gear I would take the shifter
and go all the way forward to upper left then over to upper
right position and then back down to lower right position and then it would work. Maybe this thing is just stuck in
neutral and Im going to check to my fluids are all up good.
I haven't checked them in a bit so going to do that
tomorrow if its not raining. Tons of rain here on the west
west coast of Florida right now. Just east of I-75 inland
about 20 miles and seem to get more rain just east of
I-75. But right now all of Florida is getting the rain.

I checked all the fluids and all look good.

If each side has a axle, why would I have no power to both
sides?
I guess I don't under stand the lay out of the gear system
I have a couple of neighbors that have tractors and when this rain stops and things dry out I can get one of them
to pull it up to the house. Its just a mess out there now
and would not ask them to get into the muddy mess.
So looks like a waiting game with the weather nowSmile
