How much horsepower in the 98 Steiner 420 Max Onan motor? Would it have enough umph to power the 72 inch mower?

I have run both 60" and 72" decks on 420s with 20 hp Onans. As long as you are on relatively flat terrain, the tractor can handle the 72". I have very steep slopes and found that the 60" worked better when pulling my lawn vac trailer. Be sure to use at least 4 rear suitcase weights with the 72 inch deck. I also was running "high lift" blades on both decks. They take more power but produce a nicer cut. ....
