I have a 3000 its a great first tractor. My hydraulics leak some and have for, hmmm 15 years. No biggie not enough to do anything about it yet. The 3000 is a great bush hogging tractor as well as my favorite using a tiller and a box blade.

Things to look for, do they have to use starter fluid when starting it? If it's a cold day I can believe as its my understanding it wasn't until the late 70's that a glow plug came into effect. When its over 70 ish mine cranks without ether, under that its a little too sluggish for me. Look at the ball joints see how worn they are and of course are the tires dry rotted. Can't hardly wear them out but if they are decades old dry rot becomes an issue. That year isn't power steering so if you are weak in your upper body be prepared that when stopped its a bear to turn. Check the brakes, on a good working tractor when you apply the right or left brake they should stop the tire when applied hard enough. If not that can be a little dangerous in hilly country. I usually lock the brakes most of the time, unless I am tilling.

2000 sounds like a fair price for a good tractor. Happy tractoring...

Good luck with the project. I would bet you could advertise it for say $500-$750 or so and get a little more than scrap.

You could also part it out and get a lot more than scrap. I would buy it at that price if I lived closer. NC<here.

Father in law has a super A that the rear wheel axle or bearing seems to be leaking oil. Has anyone ever changed the bearings on this? Is there just a seal that I would replace? I am looking for an online parts manual if you have a reference I could use it.<br>

Well its been over 50 hrs. So far all is well. I changed the oil and filter yesterday. I have personally never seen a filter put on so tight. Man... I broke one oil filter wrench trying to loosen it. I changed to this thing that has a belt on it and a 3/4 in block that is hollow and accepts a 1/2 drive socket. It wasn't easy but it finally gave up the ghost.

I noticed on the Front bucket it has about 5 holes across the edge. Me thinks this is for either buying or making a plate for the bucket to put some teeth on the bucket. Hmmmmm. I can foresee in the near future this being made or bought. I Have a lot of smaller trees in a wooded lot that I am going to try removing. I think the tractor has the power it just has a poor gripping bucket for this.

Tractor is running well and performing up to my expectations.

I had the wifey pick up the filters and oil today. Will put them in in the next couple of days. That and check all the bolts/nuts. 15w 40 is what they said was in it and their recommendation for our area. This is pretty close to what I use in everything else (10w 40) I doubt the difference is noticeable. Anyhoooo I am off and running.

So why would you change your oil when it hadn't reached a certain number of hours as mentioned above. Seems to me that would be a waste of money. The idea I thought is change the oil when its dirty.

I have a DK 45 it looks like to me that the power steering is performed by the hydraulics. I read and reread the manual it really doesn't speak of a power steering fluids. It does say it is run by hydraulics. This being the case then check your hydraulic fluid which is actually your transmission too. Mine is at the rear of the tractor.

We both have fiddled with it, replaced the gasket a few times. It seems we can get it stop leaking for a little while we use it a few weeks or so and it will start again. I have tried tightening a little more, a little less doesn't seem to resolve it. The gaskets are the ones made for it not something we had made. They were not new but unused. He had bought some a while back that he hadn't used. I hadn't considered the water aspect. I wouldn't think water would be an issue much. I guess if you were using the tractor in a heavy down pour maybe? I could put in a tee inline with a small piece of fuel line running downward that is plugged. This would give it the basin effect.

Do you have to remove the tires or can I just take the hub off? Any gotchas to watch out for?

Point taken. I have used a bush hog so I can relate to the swinging out you are referring to. Ideally a belly mower would be better choice regarding this, but I didn't see that they made one for my tractor.

In researching this, I found one (I think I got the link off one of these threads) that has a hydraulic swing out feature. It changes the cutting width from 7' out to over 10' when fully expanded. Not sure of the price though. I thought it was kinda neat.

Well... I went to put on a attachment on the dk45. I used the 3pt lowering handle, notta... I thought about this post, I said to myself, self, that little knob under there is your problem. I turned it both ways and retried each time, notta. I then tried half way pulling or pushing it in or out, notta. Reread the book, notta. I puzzled over this way too long (I refuse to answer that on the grounds it may allow my stubbornness to surface). I resorted to calling the dealer and speaking to the mechanic that gave me the prep out for it. He explained that the draft protection handle needed to be set to zero. I moved that and it worked beautimously...

So many stinking switches....
