My father in law has been fighting this fuel issue for years off and on. The tractor runs absolutely awesome when its running. The problem is it leaks usually. We have replaced the gasket a few times and it seems to almost always leak. It is not running out but either a slow or a steady drip... drip....... drip... etc
He mentioned today about removing the settling bowl and replacing with a valve and run a gravity flow inline fuel filter.
Anyone had any experience with this?

It has the glass bowl and a clamp that drops under it and a thumb knob to tighten right?
If so have you decided for sure where the leak is? If between the bowl the metal, have you looked very very carefully at both matching surfaces for any chip, nick or crack? Have you tried a new gasket or you making your own? You might find an "O" ring will solve you issue but the bowl is narrow enough doubt it.
Believe what you loose by the change you are considering is the ability to tell there is water and a trap for a small amount. If there is not being an issue think that will work fine. ....

We both have fiddled with it, replaced the gasket a few times. It seems we can get it stop leaking for a little while we use it a few weeks or so and it will start again. I have tried tightening a little more, a little less doesn't seem to resolve it. The gaskets are the ones made for it not something we had made. They were not new but unused. He had bought some a while back that he hadn't used. I hadn't considered the water aspect. I wouldn't think water would be an issue much. I guess if you were using the tractor in a heavy down pour maybe? I could put in a tee inline with a small piece of fuel line running downward that is plugged. This would give it the basin effect. ....

If the tractor is being used often and not being allowed to sit so condensation will be an issue you will be fine with the change. If you have gas tank you pump from worst case should be use filter on it to block water.
My guess is the wire that has the thumb screw to hold the bowl is weak but for the problem they are if you are not trying to keep it factory look would go with the in line filter and cut off valve. ....
