Mike, I didn't mean to sound so defensive, sorry. I go through similiar discussions with people on the ford-diesel website so I guess I just read your post from the wrong angle. Yes, I am new to posting here but have been following the site for about a year or so now. This is an excellent site and I hope to participate here more though I do spend most of my time on the truck site. It would be kinda boring anyways if everyone had the same opinion on things, keep the good info coming!

The shaft has several small grooves worn into it where it passes through the notch in the block. The grooving is probably due to cast marks in the block. The area in question is about 1.5 to 2 inches in length. I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to remove the shaft and grind the notch area smooth so that it won't continue to cut grooves in the shaft. Any thoughts?

I just changed out the Hydrostat fluid on my 96 955 with 350 hours (third oil change) and had about a half teaspoon of shavings after pulling out the strainer. My dealer said this was normal also.

That price seems a little high for me. I paid $ 16,000 last year for my 96 955 w/ 70A loader, 6' rear blade, R4 6 ply tires and 250 hours. It was not garaged, but was covered outside. Used JD backhoes can be had for around $4000, $ 6000 new. A price around $ 18K might be more realistic.

Could someone please post or send me specifications and information on a Kubota B6200 (HP, hitch category, 4WD?, power steering?, lift capacities, etc)? Also, what is a fair price for one with 1250 hrs and 60" belly mower? Any problems, design flaws, etc? Weaknesses and strengths?

jt, a dovetail refers to the short sloped section on the back of many trailers. Its purpose is to improve the loading angle of the trailer. Depending on the size of the trailer, dovetails are usually 2' - 5' in length. They are available on all types of trailers, including goosenecks. Steve

I ordered a JD 4300 hydro with 430 loader about 3 months ago. Dealer said it would take about 2 1/2 months to arrive. I thought the wait time was supposed to be going down! Wondering what kind of wait times others have been experiencing recently. Hoping this thing shows up before it really starts snowing!

Jason, The hydraulics are the heart of the tractor. Given the info you provided, I would stay away from this one. There are lots of other tractors out there. Steve

When you turn on the key wait a few seconds before engaging the starter. You will notice a "click" sound and the lights will brighten in the instrument panel. This indicates that the glow plugs have done their job. I have a little white smoke for the first 10 seconds after starting. I also don't believe that this is mentioned in the owners manual.

Does anyone know anything about Allied tractors? I've come across a dealer in Ohio offering a 4wd 29HP unit with a loader for $12,500 brand new.(PS, 12F/4R collar shift trans, live PTO, two PTO speeds, 2 stage clutch, dual pumps, rear diff. lock) Is this a legitimate brand of tractor? Does anyone out there own one? Are parts easily had? etc. etc. Any info would be appreciated.

My situation is very similar to Paul's. I have 11.4 acres in central MN that is quite flat with no trees on it. We average approx 50 inches of snow per season with at least one 12 inch plus storm each year and a lot of blowing snow. The land is plowed, the rock have been picked and it is rented for next growing season (will be planted in corn). I plan to build within two years. Driveway will be approx 1200 feet long and hopefully will be paved. I expect to maintain a finished lawn of 3-5 acres. The balance of the property will eventually be converted from farm fields to a grass cover but not necessarily a finished lawn. Other uses of the property will include small vegetable and flower gardens plus several fruit trees. Also, I will be planting small trees for wind breaks and other landscaping (I will have the use of my brother's bobcat). I would guess 95% of my use for a tractor will be lawn mowing and snow removal. Originally my thoughts were to consider a JD 4400 or Kubota L3710. My question to you guys is what do you think about a four-wheel-drive front mower unit such as a JD F1145 instead of a tractor? This type of unit is a 30-35 horsepower diesel with a lot of compact utility tractor components used in the drivetrain. I know this unit would be outstanding for the lawn mowing, but I'm not so sure about the snow blading and blowing. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

I too have been looking for low-cost ways of tilling. What size/type tractors are you guys using with these moldboard plows and cultivators? Seems like it would take a pretty good size tractor to pull a 2-14 plow. Thanks.

I looked at the TC21D before making my selection on compacts. JD is the only compact that moves the wheel brakes to the left foot side when you get hydro drive. I could not understand how to use wheel brakes with the same foot as the hydro? If you set the criuse, it kicks off if you tough the brake. I guess you just have to ride "side saddle".......... I bought the Deere. I have 230 hrs on it to date and I would say that the JD specs are very conservative.

I too am looking at a 4300 - in fact it is on order. It is my understanding that "one piece" rims can be reversed to add some additional width. I would be interested to know what the outside width is with the wheels in both the standard position and the widened position for R4 tires. Thanks.

My local dealer told me that there is no option that will keep the hitch in the up position. As far as ballast is concerned. I used the money for the ballast box to go towards a rear blade and 6 front wieghts. I attach the blade and hang the weights on the blade frame when using the front loader. I get the use of the blade, the ballast and improved blade cutting depth for the same money. I needed the weights to keep the front end stable while using the 5' rotary cutter that I also have. The machine handles all of the above with ease.

I have a worn hydraulic pump on my CASE 448 (1984) garden tractor. I am looking for a cheap replacement for it. It seems this part is particular to CASE (physical dimensions and clearance). Does anyone have a suggestion before I fork over $400-$480 to my dealer for a new one?
