You need two things with the FEL: the SCV to operate it and some type of rear counterweight. When pricing my 2210, the dealer listed the SCV separately because it is fairly expensive and used for multiple attachments. On the other hand, he included the rear ballast box in a single line item quote for the FEL since he considered it a necessary part of the package. Hopefully your dealer included it too.

I picked up replacement moldboards, rock slides, etc. at an Agri Supply store in NC back in February. They had hundreds of parts/pieces in stock and I saw names such as JD, IH, MH, Oliver and Ford: but DearBorn??? They handle phone orders at 800-345-0169 so it can't hurt to call.

I can’t recommend a particular sprayer but I've seen several units listed between Home Depot, Lowes and Northern Tool web sites. They range from a 1/2 HP Wagner for about $200 to what seem to be professional style units for $400 to $500. For those prices, it certainly would not pay to rent for many days.

If you haven’t used those sites, just add “dot”com to their names (no caps or spaces) and then do a search for something like airless sprayers and look for their professional category. There may be specialty stores with a better assortment but this is a good way to get an idea of what is readily available at reasonable prices.

If these are the same engine rated at different RPMs, you can be pretty sure the horsepower numbers don’t affect performance. Torque is the twisting force that does the work and the maximum torque is always produced at a lower RPM than the maximum horsepower. The reality is that torgue is measured and HP is simply a calculation based on the formula: (Torque * RPM) / 5252 = Horsepower).

I don't know anything about the two tractors you mentioned but keep in mind how important dealer relationship is when you try to balance the scales. If a dealer isn't reponding well now with the initial sale profit as an incentive, how well do think he'll respond with service or other PIA-type problems later.

We built a log splitter years ago using a GM PS pump. AS I recall, pressure was about 1200 PSI, but volume was low for repetitive cycles with a 4" cylinder. Cycle time shouldn't be a big consideration with your dump trailer.

These pumps are an all steel vane pump that is pretty much bullet proof. Cheap and readily available early model ones that come with the tank on the back can be easily converted to an external reservoir by tapping 4 existing holes and drilling one new 1/8" hole.

Beagle – you questioned the spray arc process.

My older MIG is a 225 Linde that dates back to the 80’s. Factory sample settings included combinations for spray arc welding for 1/4”+ material. Basically, you set the machine so high it melts the wire between the tip of and the gun and the work. We've used it on several jobs and it works fine with C25 gas shield. Advantage is greater penetration with a single pass. Disadvantage is that the work has to be almost perfectly flat since the high heat gives you a huge puddle of molten metal.

You didn't mention specifics, but I hope your dealer packaged a rear counterweight to go with FEL or that you have wheel weights because you'll definitely need one or the other.

I think you're describing the "normal" binding action that occurs when most any vehicle, (car, truck or tractor) is locked in 4WD. Gear ratios in the front and rear axles should provide an identical ground speed when traveling straight ahead but when turning you create two different paths for the inner and outer wheel on both the front and rear axle.

For example, if we assume the outer front wheel turns in a 72” radius and the front axle is 30” wide, the radius the inner front wheel turns is only 42”. When you are going straight the front and rear track. When you turn, the rear end follows the front end in much the same way as a trailer and moves in a tighter radius than the front end. Let’s say the outside rear wheel in our example follows a 64” radius so with the same 30” tread width, the inner rear tire would follow a 34” radius.

When you’re turning in two wheel drive the spider gears in the rear end allow the rear tires to turn at a different rate compensating for the difference in the size of the circle they are making. When you shift to 4WD you ask the front spider gears to do the same thing but, because the front and rear are solidly coupled, there is a bind created because all 4 tires are turning different radii. Some all wheel drive vehicles have a viscous coupling between the front and rear axles, rather than a gear box, to provide some slippage between the axles in addition to the speed differential allowed left to right by the spider gears.

Tire pressures should be in line with mfr. recommendations to get the theoretically correct ratios for traveling straight ahead. There have been threads that talked about checking footprint as well as pressure but, because of my racing background, I check all new vehicles with a pressure gauge then I jack up the front and rear separately and measure each tire’s circumference with a narrow ruler to be sure they are within 1/8", or so, on the same axle. Radials are pretty consistent but some supposedly identical bias ply tires vary by inches at the same pressure. This could be due to manufacturing differences but in some cases it is simply the result of different pressures needed to seat the bead on the rim when the tire was first mounted that stretched the casing.

I have a 2001 6.0 gas, auto, 4x4, 4.10 rear with 18,070 miles as of last week. I recorded every drop of gas on a spreadsheet. Best highway MPG = 13.75 (average of two fuel stops for 52 gallons) and overall average since I've owned it is 12.81. Most of my trips are under 20 miles and about 50% little or no payload.

We used to blacken aluminum to pre-heat larger parts for TIG welding with an acetylene-only flame. Then open oxygen to get a normal flame and heat to the point that the acetylene started to burn off. This not only gave us an idea of temperature but also helped it heat quicker because the dark surface absorbed more heat.

That is a factory lead for the rear work light. It goes on in a couple of the light switch positions but you can run flashers-only or headlights-only.

tamanaco, the sub-frame is all that mounts the backhoe to the tractor. It is held by 2 pins at the front of the subframe (1 under each loader mount arm) and a pin through the original drawbar hole in the rear. The rear pin doesn't support any weight, that is handled by two pieces of 1" X 3" steel with a slot milled to go over the original lower 3-point mount bar.

I built a Cad Plans model 508 backhoe for my former Simplicity Legacy about 3 years ago. After a year I modified it because of the small reach and depth - I got tired of moving the tractor after every 2 feet or so of digging. My latest attempt is my own design based on what I learned from it plus a lot of eyeballing factory & aftermarket backhoes.

There is a also a pretty good looking towable unit at http://www.ubuilditplans.com/ which could be adapted to 3-point, but it's probably a bit large for your tractor.

As I mentioned earlier, one of the reasons I stayed away from 3-point hiotch mount was to keep the backhoe as close as possible to the rear end for balance. The length of the 3-point arms forces weight much further back.

I can't speak much about quality of the cylinders although I have successfully used some of the Chief (imported from India) tie rod cylinders.

A lot depends style needed to attach the cylinder to your particular application. Their prices seem a bit higher than Northern on identical items, but you might want to try "surpluscenter.com" for a better selection of styles and sizes.

I bought a 2210 back in May with FEL and 62C deck. Your situation sounds familiar because I looked at the Deere 585 and 2210 as well as the Kubota BX and Massey GC2300. One of the things that steered me toward the Deere line is that I’m 6’-3” and I found the side-by-side pedals on the Deere much more comfortable than the rocker-type pedal used on the Kubota and Massey. Within the Deere line, I felt the 2210 with rear 3-point and PTO standard seemed like a better deal than the 585.

So far I’m very happy with the mowing capabilities; I mow about 1.7 acres of lawn in low range in less than 1 ½ hours. I was a bit concerned about steering radius specs on the Deere web site, since they showed 48.5” for the 585 and almost twice that at 7.5 ft. for the 2210. The 585 specs also show a 42” uncut circle…I found that my 2210 leaves a 60” uncut circle which works perfectly for the mulch beds around my trees. The only thing I’m disappointed with is the lack of a good collection system for the 2210 so I got a mulching kit and that has worked well.

I recently got my 47” snow blower which I plan to try without tire chains. I’ve got a 400 ft. paved driveway here in CT that has about a 40 ft. elevation change. I do have JD starter weights on the rear wheels.

I'm not sure what you meant by the "lift arm", but one thing I noticed is the rear clevis on the link that runs forward from the 3 point cross bar is offset about 3/8" so it appears to be bent when you first look at it. Even though the body of the clevis is on a bit of an angle, there is a 90 degree relationship between the front thread and the rear pin.

While changing the oil & filter for the first time in my 2210 a couple of weeks ago I noticed some junk in the new oil filter. By junk I mean small steel chips stuck in the thread grooves and a couple of small spiral shaped chips stuck to the last (deepest) thread. They seemed to be leftovers from machining the threads into the filter that were simply never removed. Since oil returns to the engine through the center hole, this crap won’t get caught by the filter until it makes a complete round trip through the engine and back to the filter. I used a deburring tool and tweezers to clean out every bit I could see and completed the oil change.

I didn’t think much more about it until last night when I was putting away the spare filter also bought a couple of weeks ago. It too had chips in the outlet hole so I brought it along to my Deere dealer today thinking I would swap it for a clean one. The parts man checked 4 more #M806418 filters and he looked at a few of the next bigger filters on their shelf and they all had chips stuck somewhere in the area of the outlet threads.

The parts guy said there was nothing he could do and went on to say he thought the factory would laugh at him if he referred this issue to them. I’m a bit fanatical about keeping an engine’s insides clean, so I showed this to the dealership's owner who voiced his concern and said he’ll inform John Deere.

In any event, it would be time well spent to visually inspect any new JD brand filters before you install them. Thankfully bearing surfaces have a soft surface layer to absorb small particles, but the same can’t be said for rings and cylinder walls which could certainly suffer premature wear from steel particles in the oil.
