kt, I buy the Delvac at my local Napa. Most of the construction/heavy equipment outfits in this area run Delvac in their diesels, especially in the winter.

Addington Equipment in N.H. makes one see link below. I have no expierence with their backhoe thumb but I did buy a grapple/rake from them for my loader and I love it. Very stout good quality, don't know how I got along without it for so many years:)

Not sure where I learned this but it sticks in my mind as 4.5 pto hp per each foot of bush hog, I think thats minimum pto hp. So use this info. for what its worth:)

I have a 4700 I bought new in 2000 and have had this problem. Every year since I've had it, I've had it in too have work done on the 3pt, all under warranty ( it's in there as we type). Finally, today the service manager says they have found and fixed the problem. The 3pt piston had a score and they replaced it, problem solved. We'll see, and why couldn't they find this the other four times??

If your 3/8's slipped in a square hole the hole is probably 1/2" Therefor 1/2" ratchet needed. For Allen wrenches go to your local machine shop supply and get a set of quality long handled Allen's.

Thanks for the ideas. I forgot to mention that while I have the winch on I will be logging and the more weight I have on the winch the less trees I can hall. No if it were just for ballast I would use the hoe all the time. I will be use the grapple to pile logs and feed brush to the burn pile.

Profit! The more parts (needed or not) they make for us too buy, Well you get the picture. I have a tractor made in 2000, it has one Hydro filter. I've not had one problem with that set up after 2400+ hrs., nor do I know of any problems with that set up but the new models have two hydro filters. I have tried to stay abreast of all PIP's (product Improvement program) and have not heard of any problems ( not to say there haven't been) But I still ask, WHY?

Brian, I have a 2000 JD 4700 purchased new July 2000, built April 2000. Had to have the hydraulic housing replaced 2 months after purchased (over $2000. & under warranty). Was bushhoging and hit the steel step on left side of tractor on a stump. It broke off two ears that hold the step bolts on the trans/hydraulic housing,(it didn't bend the grade #2 bolts in the ears but just broke the ears off. JD rep. said the housing was not properly heat treated at build. Hope this idea helps.

practice lifting and dumping a loaded bucket and save yourself some $$$. However if you are going to be doing any riding in the brush,stumps,rocks etc, the under armor is worth the money.

I just ordered a Grapple/Rake made by Addington Equipment in New Hampshire, (Link Below). Two of my neighbor's each have one and have been making rock walls, these things are tough, I mean 4 and 5 foot boulder type rocks and nothing on the grapple has bent. One neighbor did bend the curling pistons on the loader because he opened the grapple and back dragged with the top part of the grapple with the front end of tractor off the ground and fetched up on a rock, $600.00 OUCH.

36" is plenty for plastic. It's a good idea to place the culvert and fill in around to the top with 2" stone to hold it in place, and then back fill making sure no rocks larger than 2" come in contact with the culvert.
