I dont think Kubota makes a subframe mounted BH for the B7800. Ive been shopping for one for my L3130. A couple of weeks ago I got to see a BL4690 hooked up to a B7800. Its a nice sturdy setup, but its not frame mounted.

It took me a long time to decide if I wanted to go with the BH90 or BL4690B because I use the 3PH alot and was worried about how hard it will be to get it back in working order after I remove the hoe. From the pics Ive seen, it looks like you could possibly leave the stabilizers bolted to the axle, the lifting links bolted at the top and maybe the lower arms bolted on if you were to bungy or use plastic wire ties to hold everything out of the way. That way you wouldnt have to actually unbolt anything, just pull all the pins. I know it sounds lazy but I may be changing out the BH on job sites and I would prefer not to get the tool box out if I can help it.

Ive been shopping for a backhoe and had the same question about bucket size. I asked a guy I work with. His father operates a green machine doing small jobs for contractors. He told me his father started with a 9" and soon went to a 13" because the 9" wont not clean out when he dumped. It wasnt wide enough and if the soil was even slight moist, it would stick in the bucket and he would have to shake the crap out of it. That doesnt happen with the 13". This, of course, is second and third hand info but it makes sense to me. Just something else to think about.

I got to see a BL4690B mounted up yesterday. Im impressed. Just for everyones information, the limiting bar sits laterally across the lower arms and is designed to lock the arms into the lowest position. The top link of the BH is massive. I sat on it and looked at it for about 15 minutes, I didnt get a chance to operate it though, and it seems at least as sturdy as the New Holland subframe mounted BHs that I was checking out the day before. My dealer strongly recommends the BL, even over the BH90, to most of his customers with compact tractors. He said the BH just feels unstable (when moving or transporting the tractor around) on all but the biggest compacts.
Anyway, I believe Ive made the decision that the 4690 is the way for me to go. I know there are alot of other options out there but I like the idea of sticking with a Kubota product and I know there is alot of support for the BH90, which also appears to be a very good BH, just a bit much for my needs and if I decide later on that I need the BH90, I can sell the BL to anyone with a 3PH and get the 90. Maybe Ill take the $1700 difference and buy that PHD and rear blade Ive been needing.

This may be the unpopular answer but your 1/2 ton pulling a tandem trailer, with or without trailer brakes, will be fine for a one time highway trip.
I once put 3000lbs of patio stone in a 2000lbs single axle trailer, behind my Jeep Cherokee for 60 miles. I wouldnt recommend that to anyone, but you will be fine with your full size truck and a tandem axle trailer.
Just take your time, leave lots of braking room, pay special attention to whats going on around you and it will work just fine.
If you go to Uhaul for a trailer, dont tell them what you are hauling. They will probably not want you to haul a tractor on it, I dont know the reason for this stupidity but Ive heard of people having this problem with them.

Not to be a smart a$$ but If you dont plan on towing, why are you looking at an F350?
An F150 will easily tow 5000lbs all day and occasionally 7000 to 8000lbs for a limited time.
Unless you need the four door and an 8ft bed, I would get an F150 (I like the looks of the 150s over the 250s and 350s better anyway) with 5.4 & 4.10s. The reason for the 4.10s. If you dont like the RPMs on the highway, put one or two sizes larger tire on it and it will look better and still have good power. If you start towing more often, go back to the factory sized tires and get you power back.
If youre set on an F350, get the big engine because the truck weighs quiet a bit more than the 150 and the resale on the V10 or diesel will be much better.
I have an F350 dually w/7.3PS & 4.10s (with dumpbody).
I like it for what I use it for (its a dumptruck) but I wouldnt want the diesel or 4.10s (unless I put larger tires on it)as a daily driver.

I set a minimum of around 30 HP when I was shopping. For the dirt and loader work Ive been doing, most of the time Ive appriciated the extra weight of the 3130. Now that's coming to an end soon and Im doing more detailed work like raking and I'm thinking of mowing with it. Anyone want to trade a 2910 for my 3130.
A little off subject here but I had my rear tires filled when I bought it. When Im finished doing most of the heavy loader work with it and start doing finish work and mowing, can I have them emptied or is it a one way ticket once they have had calcium in them?

I think there are probably lots of things that are still made in the U.S., you just dont think of them right away. For instance, I work for a company that makes vinyl siding, vinyl windows and a bunch of other vinyl stuff in addition to roofing shingles. All of our stuff is %100 made in the U.S. as well as most of our competitor's stuff. The thing is that while its all made in the U.S., the French actually own the company that I work for (I still hate the French).
Just think about all the little widgets and boxes and furniture and so forth that you use daily. Its probably made in the U.S. if it doesnt require lots of cheap labor to assemble.
Oh yea, alot of the machines we use to make our products are made overseas. Does that disqualify our product for "Made in U.S."?
Still, nothing against our northern neighbors but NAFTA sucks as well as all of the manufacturing that has left our country but it probably means I can buy a computer, and many other things, dirt cheap (and I will) so who am I to complain.

I just want some comments, good or bad, from those of you that own your own business. <br>
Presently I work for a large company but its always been one of my life goals to own a successful small business. Its in my genes. My mother was a business owner back as long as I can remember and she was very good at it. She worked hard at it and it was lucrative for her but I think the biggest payoff for her was the pride she got from taking nothing and making it something.<br>
I dont think she cared what the business was. She owned three totally different types of businesses as I was growing up. She would start them, grow them and as soon as they were well established, move on to another project.<br>
She suddenly passed away about 7 years ago and I never took the opportunity to talk with her about it.<br>
Ive talked with several friends that own their own businesses and have yet to hear anyone say that they regret doing it. Even when times are hard, they still say its the best decision they have made.

Where I buy my off road diesel, they couldnt seem to care less what I do with it. I dont have to sign anything and I can pull right up to the pump. <br>
BTW, the yellow "diesel" can I bought was from Tractor Supply and its identical to the gas cans they sell, except for the "diesel" and color.

Im going through this with my back yard for the second time. We built the house about 5 years ago and I did nothing besides rough grade to most of the back yard. Now Im having to tear it up and do it again. Im taking down the high spots and pulling up the rocks with a box blade and leveling, smoothing and removing rocks with a rock rake. Im new to tractoring so its taking some practice but everytime I get on the tractor, Im learning more and using it becomes more natural. Dont be cheap when it comes to bringing in top soil if you need it. Better to do it now than to not be happy with it and have to do it later, I know, I went cheap, now Im doing it all again.

This may or may not be of help, either way, thatnks for bringing back a good childhood memory for me.
One of the houses I grew up in had the same problem with crawdads. There was an underground stream that ran through the property and the water table was just below the surface. You could actually look down in the holes and see water about 8" under the surface except during the dryest of times. The crawdad problem wouldnt go away until we put a drainage tile around the upper part of the ground which deverted the stream away.
The part about the crawdads that I remember best is going out at night with my freinds, a flashlight and a small homemade noose on a stick. the crawdads would hangout just below the surface or comeout to rebuild their mounds after I would mow. When we would shine the light on them, they would freeze and you could lasso one of their front claws. by morning, we would have about a half ucket full. We never ate them, just let them go in the creek down the street.
I guess Im saying, if its not feasable to improve the drainage, get yourself some kids and flashlights.

I have also been considering a 3PH hoe for my 3130 and have heard all the talk about the advantages of having a subframe that ties the undercarraige together so the stress of the hoe doesnt pull the tractor apart. The HD loader (L723) on the Grand Ls come with a framework that ties the loader subframe into the rear axle. Would this accomplish the same thing? Is there a weakness in the design of the Grand Ls that they need the extra support of this frame or does the frame actually make them marginally stronger than other tractors without it? I hope it makes them stronger because that was one of the things that I liked about the Grand L when I bought it.

The loader on my 3130 drops fast also but I dont see it as a problem. Whats wrong with feathering the valve? Will this cause damage or wear? I feather the valve almost all the time to smooth things out, curl and lift at the same time and do precise work. is this something I shouldnt do or is abnormal?

On a trip though Baltimore yesterday, I passed several trailer loads of brand new Agco and MF CUTs and full sized tractors heading to all points west. I guess their ship just came in.

My tarp shelter that collapsed last winter was also a temporary solution that I bought four years ago so I got my money out of it. I would have considered the same thing again but it is time for more coverage than the single car tarp systems usually offer and I need at least 90" of vertical clearance to get both my Kubota (with ROPS up) and my dumptruck under it.<br>

A couple of problems I see with using the loader or 3pt is that the tractor must be running to use either. That means if you find yourself in another rollover situation, your SOL. That's ultimately the reason why I purchased an electric winch over hydraulic for offroading.
The second reason to not use the loader is that by the time you realize you need a cable to recover, you may already be in a situation where raising the bucket will effect your center of gravity enough to cause a rollover.
As for the 3pt hitch. I just dont think its got enough grunt to pull you out of sticky mud and up a hill.
If your not ready to buy an electric winch, your probably best going with a nice, heavy duty come-a-long and a long section of chain (nylon straps stretch and make comealong work even less efficient). Come-a-longs are alot of work, but in a pinch, they beat not having anything. The few times Ive used my come-a-long (before I got my Warn) I cursed at it the whole time I was using it, but its never let me down. I still carry it as a backup.
If your even considering using a comealong or rigging something to the loader or 3pt, dont be too critical of line speed when shopping for an electric winch. Your not in a competition, a few seconds isnt going to matter. The same goes for letting the winch cool off. There is no reason you need a temp monitor on the hand control. Take a second, feel the motor, if its hot, let it rest and it will still out pull a hand winch or loader rig.
On a side note. I saw something a few years ago that mounted on the rear wheels of a tractor somehow. It was basically a cable drum on each wheel. As you would back up or pull forward, it would wrap the cable. I dont know how they mounted but it may be something to investigate.

Ive had a few quick or distant bear encounters over the years. I figure Im due for a close encounter some day. The last one was a couple of weeks ago while four wheeling near the Poconos in PA. We spotted a cub about 30 feet away. No sign of momma bear but you know she had to be close by. My first encounter wasnt really an encounter but was actually more frightening. My wife and I were backcountry hiking/camping in known bear country and as we settled into our campsite for the evening, she proceeded to spill beef noodle soup all over me, my clothes, pack and sleeping bag. Some stuff we were able to hang away from the campsite. Other stuff I just had to use. I didnt sleep much that night.<br>
Fortunitely, no bear visits that night. On a different occasion, we did have a bear walk through our campsite and rattle some pans while four wheeling near Tahoe last year.<br>
Anyway, Since I now do most of my hiking and camping in PA, I must travel through the comunist state of MD which has unconstitutionally strick firearms laws, Im thinking about the bear pepper spray option. Anyone have any experience with these?

Following that theme.
A man and his wife get pulled over for speeding. The man says "officer, I dont believe I was speeding, Ive had the cruise control set on 55 the whole time" the wife blurts out" Honey you know that cruise control hasnt worked for months". The man is obviously irritated by his wifes big mouth. So the officer notices the man isnt wearing a seatbelt. The man says that he just took it off to get his wallet when he got stopped. His wife then laughs and tells the officer that he has never worn a seatbelt as long as she can remember. Now the man is just fuming at his wife.
So as the officer is walking back up to his car to write the two tickets, he cant help but hear the man yelling and cursing at his wife. The officer walks up to the mans door and asks if there is a problem. The wife says "no, he always gets loud when hes been drinking"
