I think once we get our vocabulary figured out, the rest will be easy.

If you want to go with the 2-16 foot spans, it might be easier to get the materials and keep the bridge light. The center pier would be some work, probably 4 "poles" jetted into the pond bed about 4 feet, with 2 2x12's as a pier top across the tops of the poles. The sketch kinda shows the pier for the 2-16 foot spans.

Tell me again, what is the heaviest piece of equipment you want ot move over the bridge?

Work is not Horsepower ( or Power). Horsepower is how fast "Work" gets done. If you look at the units of the 2 terms, "Power" by definition is how long it takes to accomplish the same amount of "Work". What the units of the 2 terms say is that a 5hp engine can do the same work as a 10 hp engine, but will take twice as long to get it done. In other words, a 2hp engine can move 550lbs 1 foot in half the time as a 1hp engine.<br>

These terms are used universally in Static Mechanics and Physics. The exact relationship between the 2 engines gets more complicated since the actual Power formulas have to account for losses and efficiencies. But this is how work and power are defined and calculated.<br>

"Class" ratings generally refer to vehicle tow hitches. 3-pt hitches are generally "Category" ratings.

Are you asking about tow hitches or 3-pt hitches? We may be answering the wrong question.

Go with the B-series. The extra weight and full Cat-1 3-point will be worth the extra money. The BX series have a limited Cat-1 hitch that you might find is not right for the clearing work you want to do.

The BX is a great machine, but you might find a sub-comact too limited for what you want to do.

Depending on the type of soil, doing much of anything to fill more than 8-12" deep will not get you compaction of the lower layers. If the soil is clay, or clayey gravel, adding water could actually do you more harm than good. Clays are expansive soils, meaning they expand when their moisture content approaches a saturation point. It will then shrink as it dries, losing it's compaction. With expansive soils, generally a technique called "pre-consolidation" is used to drive the water out of the soil and consolidate it with overburden. With sands and sandy gravels, water and vibratory compaction is effective to about 12". The water acts as a lubricator, along with some gravity effect to aid in comapction. You can tell what type of fill you are getting by looking at the particle sizes. Very fine and sticky and soils that stain contain a good deal of clay. Rougher grainy soils have sand and/or gravel, and will compact to a more consitent base and offer better drainage.

For most fill dirt of mixed soil types, I would recommend spreading in layers 6-8" thick, and roller compacting ( driving over )repeatedly before adding the next lift. The soil should be moist, but not saturated. The narrower the tires of the compacting machine are, the better off you are. 3 years will cetailnly help. As rain water or melting snow drains down through the soil, it creates a "gravity effect" to draw down and help compact the soil, but as previously mentioned, erosion can be a big problem over three years.

OK, We have 2 dog doors. Originally the dog door went directly outside. Drug too much dirt in the house for that program to keep working.

Had to fill that door in and went to a 2 door system. The first door leads to the garage, then another dog door from the garage to outside. There is a carpet runner between the two doors in the garage so they can "wipe their feet" before coming in the house.

No, it's not a red carpet....but probably should be.

Spend some time in Michigan, anywhere you go from here will be an improvement. The depressed auto and manufacturing related businesses are dragging the state bad. You can't give away a home, or anything else here right now. Real estate agents don't even want to list property because they know they can't sell it.

Hopefully this is the bottom. We went through this in the early 80's in Michigan, and we came back strong. We'll see what happens this time.

The purpose of the block is to keep the clutch plate from rusting against the pressure plate. You may not have had problems before, but Kubota will not honor any warranty work for a frozen clutch plate. If you are going to store the tractor, we would highly recommend you use the clutch block.

Standard moldboard heights are generally too high for sub-compacts. Most manufacturers now offer cat-1 implements with cat-0 spacings that fot the BX and other subcompacts more comfortably.

A shorter top link would lift the blade higher, but would make it difficult to position the blade properly when engaging the ground.

We used to have a sub-compact. We solved the problem by fabricating longer lift arms and used a standard cat-1 top link. The arms were fairly simple to fabricate, the ends are available at many farm stores. Another option is to add quick attatch ends to the arms, available from Northerntool. These will add enough length to your lift arms that you will get the added lift you need. You will also need a longer top link, but they are available at TSC for about $20.

The third option is adding a hydrauilic top link. This would allow you to shorten the link for ground clearance, then set the length you need for proper engagement.

Hopefully one of these options will help.

I know I may be in a minority on this ( See last years discussion ) but you need to be careful with block heaters. If you leave the block warmed constantly, over time, you can dry out the cylinders by running the oil in them. Use a block heater for a short period of tiume before starting the tractor.

You don't run the same risk with an oil pan heater. Just keep the oil warm enough to flow well on start-up.

Note to file...Install the 40amp alternator upgrade kit BEFORE installing the cab. It will eliminate 6 hrs of work dis-assembling and re-assembling the cab to access the relay under the cowl.

Prognosis, sticking valve. Inside the drop control valve is usually a ball and spring that controls the fluid flow. If this starts sticking, it's not easy to tell what you have the drop rate set at. I would concentrate more on the drop adjuct valve that the 3-pt hydraulic valve.

In the side of the housing, you will probably see a plug. Under the plug is a ball and spring that the control lever moves to control the drop flow. Make sure the ball and spring are free moving and haven't gummed up. The spring actuates the ball movement, so it could be sticking. It will also act differently after the fluid has warmed the valve housing. Also make sure that this part of the 3-pt housing is free of debris and gum.

Hope this helps. The spool valve is probably not the problem.

Sorry I can't answer your specific question, but when we installed the cab on our 7800, we went with stereo headphones instead of the headliner system. The stereo headphones are nice because they reduce the hydro noise and provide excellent sound. Instead of creating more noise to get over the tractor noise, the headphones do both.

What's been stated about the 1/4" valve is true in our case, but to a lesser extent. I have gotten used to the action of the valve, and also installed a position indicator so we know where the 3-pt is at all times. With time you get used to the valve, but it isn't position control. With either valve, adjusting the height of an implement to clear objects would take some fussing around, position control or not. I'm not sure the valve type has much to do with that problem.

You should be a ware that there is another major difference between the 7800/2910 and the 30 series tractors. The PTO engagement on the 30 series tractors is hydraulic, therefore the pto can be engaged and disengaged without clutching. Since the tractor is hydrostatic and the pto's are hydraulic, there really isn't a lot of use for a clutch. Being able to engage and disenage pto's on the fly is a nice feature, maybe even nicer than the position control. You don't have this feature on the 2910 either.

We have the 7800, although modified, it has been a great machine for us and always ready to work.

Yep, at the vacation home...on the neighbors 7800. Cleared 8" of fresh snow with his FEL. Makes us awfully glad we have the hydraulic front blade at home. The FEL is a PITA to clear snow with.

It's always a good idea to clean the suction screen during the 50 hr service. There are always filings from the manufacturing rpocess that you will find on the screen at 50 hrs. It may not be required, but is always a good idea.

Make sure that you document the problem with the dealer service to protect or even extend your warranty. I doubt there was any damage to the tractor.

Got something now, the whole nine yards. Sinus infection, cold sores, fever, tired...blah-blah-blah. Happens to me every time around Christmas. Spent Christmas Day in the emergency room a couple years ago with a fever of 104. Found out that time it was pneumonia.

Hope we feel better soon!!!
