I understand. I have seen what the MBA marketing types have done to a lot of businesses in the country. I believe they are all interested in the numbers not the customer or building long term relationships. They probably have a new dealer lined up in the area with no tractor experience and promising the world.

EW; I had to think about this for a minute, make that a couple of days. The rust is growing with age.

There is a european system that uses a smaller metal pilon. After it is driven into the ground you twist the top and spikes push out to increase the surface area on the bottom. I believe there is also a leveling system for the mounts so you plumb it after it is in place.

A friend of mine in CA is developing a modular metal house design and uses these for the foundations pilars. If you are interested I many be able to find the information or put you in touch with him. He is looking to rebuild with his system in MS and LA.

Art is it a viscous coupling system or a continuously variable system like the newer transmissions. My only experience with owning a AWD was an old Jeep full size Cherokee,74. It used an expensive system like the Range Rovers which is a linked chain that moves like the newer continuously variable transmissions from what I know. For the era the system was quite economical as with a 360 ci I got about 16 mpg.<br>

Active AWD: Subaru's automatic transmission use Active AWD, mostly front wheel drive and uses traction sensing computer input to electronically vary the front to rear power split via a hydraulic multi-plate transfer clutch.<br>

VTD AWD (variable torque distribution). New in 2001, VTD transfers powers front to back electronically. The power split is 45/55 front/rear and the rear wheel bias is designed for a more luxury car feel as opposed to the front bias of the Active AWD system. Usually 45/55 front to back split but that varies according to wheel slippage.<br>

My guess is the system in this Forester is the first one an there is slack in the drive train or mechanical or electronic problem with the rate of engagement. Did you check is there were any recalls on this model? It might be as simple as reflashing the control memory. I found a site once that you placed model numbers and VIN in and told you all the recalls on the vehicle. I will see if I can find it again.<br>

I have seen it at Lowes but not sure if I would use it. What are the advantages over a metal roofing material? I have some pretty long runs on my House roof and no horizontal seams. On the garage I had to seam it and have more than a foot over lap. Despite this the way the wind blows here in a storm we get the odd leak.

I guess the main question was does anyone change the brake fluid. I have only done it in the past when I resealed or replaced the calipers or drum pistons. As I have not done anything to the brakes on this truck and will likely just replace the front pads next I am interested if someone like our "Chief" mechanic has done this and recommends it. He has certainly worked on more critical hydraulic systems than most of us.<br>
I am always worried about drawing rust or dirt particles into the calipers and then causing a nick in a seal and a leak.<br>
My understanding is that a lot of cars manufactures have gone to metal pads, which wear the disks excessively compared to the old asbestos. My experience with the newer organic pads it that they don't last while you turn around.<br>
The Volvo's have had metal pads for years and therefore you need to have the disks replaced with the pads. I normally get about 100K miles on the pads on the Volvos also.

If you have the limited slip clutch packs it is a good idea as the differential fluid will be under greater stress. I changed mine at something like 60 K. I believe it is listed in my service schedule.<br>
I changed the differential on the 97 Ford also, but this was due to a leaking seal.

We dried hickory at one time in Ont with no problem. Might be the rate of drying and the straightness of the grain. There are different species of cotton wood. I have only cut the stuff on the BC coast. Basically it rots as it falls and dry it weighs as much paper. Incidently it burns about as fast. You would need about 15 cord of that stuff to equal one cord of anything else.

I would only do it if you can get ss nails for the framer. Cedar deck boards do not work the heads out as pine will, but the nail heads will discolor the boards.

On the true west coast rain forest first growth the moss is everywhere as there is very little light reaching the forest floor. We would use licorice fern to indicate north side.

When you loose a close friend sometimes it is difficult to grieve and get moving again. Like most I have been through it a few times. Lost a girl friend in college who was at school in CA and a couple of friends in a plane accident the same week. It took a very long time to recover. We will be thinking and praying for you.

Must be an exellent mechanic that can diagnose the problems as a pump with a $5000 bill over the phone. I can think of two or three things it could be would give the same symptoms and not be caused by a warn hydro pump.

Water resistant grease seems to help. I had a tube of high grade teflon grease for the Seadoo and used it on the components that saw water. The grease seemed to stay in the joint longer than the standard dino variety.

I sold my Super 55 gas for $850, but Iowafun's was a cream puff compared to mine. The list is too long to go into here, but it ran and the brakes were good.

I had a little Poulan and got rid of it for the same reason Ann stated. If it is too light you tend to use it like a kitchen electric knife with one hand. You alway want two hands on a saw. Even with anti kick chain you never know.

I am not sure exactly what area of MA you are in but my experience in MA was that there was not many larger tractor dealers in the area no matter what the color.
If you are going to a dealer that did not sell the tractor often they will not provide you any quick service.
