Mobilus: Sorry for the confusion. I use a modidfied contraption consisting of about a 15' long I beam with teeth cut out of one side (flip it over and it's smooth) pulled by a cable. Yes, it's used for leveling out the gravel as it's quite heavy. Actually, a group of businesses in the area share it. One of the others actually owns it. It works slick, but for a 50 pto hp tractor it's no weight. I've never had anything "lock up" to my knowledge as was questioned. I'm still surprised that those tiny front tires do so much of the pulling. I read where the manufaturers try to distribute weight 60/40 but the tire size sure doesn't reflect that. That's probably somewhat misleading but I think that the larger question here is "why does John Deere offer the same tire options on a 50 hp tractor as it does a 35 hp tractor?" Wouldn't the subject be mute if the rear tires were, say, 14.9 x 30 instead of 13.6 x 28 with appropriately sized front tires? Then maybe the rear tires wouldn't have such a marked reduction in traction. By the way, yes, it does have an analog speedometer and it dropped from 4 mph to 3.5 by disconnecting the MFWD. Kleinchris: I move a considerable amount of snow in the winter and my main attachments are a FEL, a box blade and a Farm King 740-74" snow blower. Thus far, with about 1000#'s of fluid in the rear tires, I've never encountered a lot of problems with too little ballast or getting stuck. I'm not quite sure what you have for a tractor but if it has FWD and you have correctly sized attachments you shouldn't run into a lot of problems using plain, ordinary common sense. I usually have the box blade mounted when the snow blower isn't. You can move one heck of a lot of snow in a hurry with a box blade if it isn't too deep. It's really good for those every day or so dustings of a few inches. You won't even use your FEL because you can pile it 6' or 7' just pushing in reverse. My old tractor w/o FWD got stuck easy but it's pretty simple to just walk yourself out with the bucket. A ballast box on the 3 ph is great for front end work but if you need the 3 ph for other use you've just lost your ballast.

I looked hard at Kioti before I purchased my JD 4720 a few years ago. The info I gathered looked like they have some nice units (I was pondering the DK65) but the dealer network still wasn't close enough to my area to make it practical. The other problem was I had a JD trade and my dealer was really fair, considering the shape it was in. The Kioti dealer only had email pictures to look at & he didn't seem too interested in trading. I'll be looking forward to their expansion, though my 4720 is a super tractor too. I was pretty neutral at the time but now it would be a little harder. All of these CUTs have come a long way in the past decade or so.

My father had a 5' Erskine back in the early 70's that hooked to the rear pto and pulled forward. Even though the tires drove over the snow first it sure worked a lot better than you'd think; kind of like a box blade/snowblower. Erskine still makes such a unit, although the design has been upgraded thirty five years.

JB: This is my first post on this forum but your 4720 problem caught my eye. I, too, have a 4720 (with an 84" box blade). Recently I've been grading a 27,000+ sq. ft. parking lot with clay and gravel. I use the Loadmatch religiously and the unit seems to operate as intended, though a full load of either clay or gravel is the most I'd want out of her. I operate in the first range, usually around 1500 rpm's. If you have a 96" box, that might be too much. I don't know. Your problems sound kind of scary . . . sure hope you got to the bottom of it.
