ww, sorry to hear about your issues...

My 46BH will drop maybe an inch per hour with the engine off. I have not noticed any dropping with the engine on.

No issues with the grease fitting either, but then again I don't do much work with rocks. You may need to bolt/weld on a small guard or something.

I don't know your PTO HP or soil conditions - these play the biggest role in choosing your tiller.

I recently got a Landpride 58" tiller for my John Deer 4110. I have very little clay or rocks on my property or I would have gone smaller. The 4110 puts out 17 HP at the PTO. If I bury the tiller in clay, it will bog down the engine. Having the width to cover your tracks is great, if your tractor can handle it.

I don't know the make/model or hydraulics of your tractor, but I don't think you want to hook up a log splitter via your tip up/down bucket circuit. First of all, you'll have a limp bucket white the splitter is hooked up. Depening upon your log splitter design, it may be difficult to have the log splitter near the joystick, which could be a pain.

If your tractor has the ability to attach a power beyond kit, put that on, then you can mount the joystick to the log splitter, and use the log splitter where-ever (3PH or FEL mounted, etc.), as long as it can attach to the power beyond kit.

You might be able to do it via the wiggle stick, but the power beyond kit is technically the correct way, and should be cheaper than an extra pump.

Maybe the alternative is a MAC. Apple announced today they're releasing some software that will allow their PC's to run windows XP. (Personally, I'll pass on that experiment.)

Now that spring is here, I finally get to play with my winter purchase (the JD 4110). I did some digging in the creek with a 16" bucket on the 46 BH - and was was impressed. It even cut through some small tree roots.<br>

I had originally planned on getting a Woods GTC-52, but when I got the backhoe, I noticed the JD dealer also sold Landpride attachments (the JD dealer is much closer than the Woods place). He talked me into the RTA 58". I was a little nervous about the 4110's HP for that size tiller. I did a little tilling last night (thanks to the rear work lights). I couldn't believe I was actually tilling - hardly any noise, no bouncing - it just quietly tilled the ground. O.K. - it did make a little noise when it found part of a 3" branch embedded in the ground. What a difference from the 30" tiller for my GT245.

Thanks DRankin. I'll call the dealer later today and see if they can't send me some, seeing as how they didn't give them back to me. In the meantime, I have some bronze bushings that will do.

earthwrks, winwiper - thanks, but the 3PH was rubbing against my rear tires, so I definately need to cut down on the play.

Under ideal conditions, I'd like to keep the grass seed as moist as possible. On rain-free days, I'll most likely water both morning and at night. I'm going to utilize the 35 or 55 gal. drum method with a 12vdc pump. I bought the pump today at northern tool, 6.5-10A draw and for my application - it'll be more than 100 GPH flow. If the area I'm watering is large, I can load up my dual axle car trailer with numerous drums - and I'll haul that with the 4110. Otherwise, my GT245 has a utiliy cart that should hold a couple of drums (most likely two 35-gal.).

The drive to and from is flat, so I can take it slow without any worries.

Congrats fellow 4110 owner. The cupholder JD sells for the garden tractors goes for about $12, and applies to the tractor via double sided tape. It's a great cupholder - I'd ask your dealer to throw that in (or break down an buy it.)

With the dirt left over from the parking lot, I constructed a berm around the barn such that the berm level is about 10" above the finished floor level. Hence I think I’m covered for another once-in-a-lifetime rain, but I want to improve my removal of water from inside the berm. All gutters from the building drain into the creek, and the drains are slightly higher than the berm - so water can’t back up into those drains (unless I’m already under water.) With the area that I have below the finished floor height inside the berm, I can take on 2" of rain without any drainage. My only method of drainage right now is a couple of sump pumps in an outdoor pit. Under normal conditions, these don’t even kick on until I’ve gotten 1" of rain.

What I’m looking to do is install a gravity drain into the creek. The creek is normally empty. In the event of a large rain, the majority of the water inside would gravity drain prior to the creek being high enough for a one-way valve to stop the drainage - at witch time I would rely on the sump pumps. This would be helpful in the event I was without power for a while - giving me time to get the generator running. Luckily I live near a substation, and I haven’t ever lost power for any extended period of time.

My question is, other than ‘cleanout’ one way vales or flap gates - any recommendations for creating a fail-proof one way drain for this project (or any other ideas for that matter?)

It's a scam. If the deal is too good to believe, it's a scam. (I had to repeat it.)

Things that make it obvious:

1. It's a private listing, bidders must be approved.
2. Don't use my ebay email, use this one instead.
3. There's a 'buy it now' price in the add, but the ebay 'buy it now' wasn't used.
4. You have to pay via wire transfer or something that can't be reversed.
5. It's a 3 day or 1 day listing, as they know it will be pulled by ebay in 12-48 hours.
6. All pictures are of tractors that have already sold on ebay.

Those emails everyone has gotten from 'ebay' asking for your personal information - well that's how they 'hijaak' the account. They're using someone else's account for the fraudulent listing. Hence the positive feedback.

Ebay has a major issue on their hands, as there are always numerous scam listings any time you look for tractors. (Who knows what it's like for other auctions.) To attempt to thwart would make it more work for a legit auction, so that would hurt ebay's sales. Until the scams cut into their profits, there's not much motivation for ebay to fix it - after all - if you fall for it - you lose.

I've never used Sea foam in a diesel engine, but I have in some gas engines.<br>

My neighbor had a two-man post hole digger he said I could borrow, but 'good luck' getting it to run - as he said he couldn't make it run. I went to the local autoparts store to pick up some carb cleaner and a spark plug, and he recommended using Sea Foam. After a little bit of work and adding sea foam to the gas - it ran.<br>

I bought a used motorcycle from a relative who said it stalled on low idle quite often. After some minor work (have't had time to take apart the carbs) it's running better with each tank of gas - which has sea foam in it.<br>

I found the pics interesting... I've bought stuff from Northern tool in the past - and I have notice a lot of their items are 'private labeled' (which kind of sucks for the consumer, as it's tough to comparison shop).

John Deere's list price for buckets are less that the current discount prices at Northern Tool.

I must say I've enjoyed the messages on the electronics. I'm an electrical engineer who makes a living upgrading industrial manufacturing equipment to the latest electronics. i.e. servo motors in place of clutch/brakes attached to standard AC motors - air cylinders in place of machanical cams, PLC's, electronic line shafting, etc.

I'll have to agree - the biggest issue with consumer's electronics is the lack of proper schematics or a sound explaination of how the 'black box' works. Without either of these, it makes it tough to troubleshoot.

Glad to see your pickup is going well (with the exception of the recall). I've been pretty lucky so far with my vehicles. My 1990 GMC S15 made it to 160k without anything major wrong with it. That was replaced with a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee (company vehicle) - I still have that - and am rather amazed at the lack of drivetrain issues at 193k (the AC has been another story).

The 2500HD is basically the replacement for the Jeep, but since the Jeep still gets me places, it's kind of a part-timer right now.

It all depends upon how much you need to use one. I ordered a 46 BH for my tractor a couple of weeks ago, and will be getting it installed tomorrow.

Once you know how many projects you plan on doing with it, it should be pretty easy to figure out the math. For me, I figured I'd be wasting an hour to pick up and drop off everytime I want to rent one. Plus the rental costs. If that amount of time and rental costs exceed - let's say $2000 - you get the BH (assuming cash isn't the issue). I say $2000 because I would think that would be the maximum depreciation you'd see over a couple of years if you sold it when you were done with your projects.

Reflectix is pretty good stuff. I used it under my heated concrete floor to reflect the heat up (see pic #5 of my pics). I also used it in addition to 4" thick insulation when insulating my barn. I had to slit the reflectix in that instance - to avoid a double vapor barier with the 4" insulation and the reflectix. I does a great job of "reflecting" the sun during the summer months, and also reflecting the heat in during the winter months. For comparison purposes, my 50 year old house (1200 sq. foot) costs more than 50% of what my 3200 sq' foot barn costs to heat, which has a 'leaky' overhead door (my barn is also my office - so it's the same temperatur of my house).

When I poured my foundation, I ran some tubing from my house through the foundation (heated pour). Where the tubing was exposed outside, I wrapped it in reflectix to prevent heat loss. When it snowed, the reflectix collected snow before the grass, even though there was tubing carrying 100 degree water inside of it!

I the mud coming up through the 18" of gravel or somewhere else?

I've got a 200' drive witha 100'x100' parking lot. It sees an average amount of traffic, which includes tractor/trailer u-turns and the heavy garbage truck. I didn't use any fabric. I went with a 4" layer of large stone (2-3") covered with another 4" of grade 8. I've been very impressed with it, as it will easily puddles water and very few weeds have grown. It's been in service for about 3 years now. I have a similar climate as you do, so the gravel sees it share of snow, frost, etc. It's on an old farm property, so the soil is black dirt, and the water table is pretty high.

Oops - typo there, I corrected it to 4110. I also noticed I didn't make it very clear that I was looking for the Woods tiller for the 4110, and leaving most of the mowing and light hauling tasks for the GT245.

Now 'docs' post make even more sense to me, as I assume he was wondering why I was thinking merely changing tiller 'brands' on a tractor would improve things.

Changing to the tiller on that machine (GT245) was always a bit of a pain anyway.
