Did you replace the suction filter? It could be plugged. Another cause for the rear hitch not working could be a closed rate of drop valve. Check both just to be sure.

I think I would stick with a simple submersible pump system and go with the most tank and or tanks you can afford. Having a large pressure tank capacity will give you a large volume of water on hand in the event of a power outage as well as sharply reduce the on/off cycling of the well pump.

Here is a discussion on this topic and as you mentioned, reliability and power consumption are issues.

I went with a Stihl O-66 back in 1993 after a really bad ice storm. I still have that same saw and it runs just like the day I bought it. Mind you I run the gas mix at about 40:1 for the extra oil and lubrication.

To make a long overdue follow up. A trapper was brought in and given access to a moderate sized area on one of our forestry units. He was there for about 3 weeks and trapped 63 coyotes. I am trying to get him to come back and work all of our forest and farm properties. 63 is a very large number but the coyotes are STILL massively over populated throughout the area. The problem is that they are SMART, CUNNING, have LOTS of cover, and are WELL educated as to what humans will do to them.

So sorry to hear about your dog Dennis. I think you are doing the right thing. My parents lost their dog last week. She was a similar breed. She had a cancerous tumor that was removed. She seemed to be healing but then got an infection in her digestive system and passed. She was like a small child to my mother and father. All you can do is the best you can while considering the pain and suffering of the dog and even then it is VERY painful to lose them like that. Were it me in that condition, I sure appreciate it if those carry for me took into considerate as much has you have Dennis. God Bless.

KT you might try calling Bad Boy Mowers. They are not so big that they cannot make a custom built mower and certainly not a small operation by any stretch of the imagination. In the past, they have made custom made mowers for celebrity customers. Perhaps they can make one for your cousin.

I recently acquired a Bad Boy AOSD 7200 which is there flag ship zero turn mower that is equipped with a Caterpillar 4 cylinder diesel. It is built like a tank but rides like a boat on smooth water due to a bushing suspension system. It can cut circles around my John Deere F525 and the 4410 with mid mounted mower. The Grammar suspension seat is so comfortable.....even more so than my lazy boy recliner that it makes cutting the grass fun.

With 35 hp and 94 ft./lbs. of torque the engine can propeller this 1 ton grass monster upto 16 mph and STILL have a VERY nice cut.

If Bad Boy does or cannot make a custom mower, perhaps they can recommend someone who does.

The more I think about this topic, more resurfaces in my crappy memory. In fact what got me to looking for a place was a post on this forum WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back MANY years ago that posted a link to the website landandfarm.com.

I got to looking around on this website and found some BEAUTIFUL places for sale. We drove out to take a look and fell in love with it. After over 6 months of haggling with the idiots at Regions back who had foreclosed on it as well as some other deed complications, we were able to close on the place. We found another place very close by that was in legal complications that took another 6 months to straighten out but it had a pretty nice house on it that would do until we could build or find a nicer home in the area. We still are living in it but once we get the kids through college, we will probably build a home.

I wish I could find this thread posted many years ago and link to it. I have been looking and see a lot of familiar names that have moved on.

If I find the thread, I will post the link to it. Dennis, would you take a look and see if you remember what thread this was?

There is still a massively HUGE demand for ammunition with a "tactical" or "tactical training" value. Hence the huge demand for .223, .308, shotgun buckshot, and rimfire ammunition (especially .22 Long Rifle). The same situation applies to metallic reloading components.

The ammunition is out there and being stocked on the shelves and in various online stores but it get bought up almost immediately.

It is a matter of being at the right place at the right time or finding an online seller who has ammo in stock. If they do have it in stock, you had better buy it as fast as you can because waiting even a minute or two will result in an out of stock online message.

I check Gunbot frequently throughout the day and when ammo that I want comes available for the right price, I jump on it.

Check with the dealer or the shop manual and find out if this particular engine has an internal oil cooler. I know my Cummins diesel does and if the oil cooler develops a leak, it will contaminate the oil with coolant. This can usually be checked with a cooling system pressure check. The other possibility could be an oil passage packing or gasket that may have failed.

1. Get a complete shop manual. I prefer the shop manual on CD. That way you can print out each task, take out to the tractor and not worry about getting greasy finger prints on it.

2. As already mentioned, check the fluids. Look at the oil....is there coolant in the oil. Is there oil in the coolant (radiator)? If not.

3. Change ALL of the fluids and filters.

4. Check the charge on the battery. This would be a great time to clean up the battery area and ensure the terminals are clean. Removed the battery and check behind it for corrosion on the oil cooler if it is mounted close to the battery. Another thing to check is to ensure all of the safety switches/operator presence systems are working properly so when you attempt the start, these will not be a problem.

5. If you found coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant, chances are IF you are lucky, the cylinder head gasket is bad or blown. If not, the head may be cracked. You will have to remove the cylinder head to inspect for cracks as well as checking it for being flat and true (no warpage. Also check the cylinder bores for damage. (gouges, scratches, rust pitting, etc.) If damaged much beyond a small scratch, you will likely have to at least hone the cylinder. If the cylinders show damage, this will require removal of the pistons for inspection. (one thing leads to another.....at this point a rebuild may be worth considering)

6. Presuming you found no signs of damage and the fluids all looked good, you have replaced ALL the fluids & filters, and the battery is cleaned up & good to go.....you are ready to attempt a start.

a. Attempt the start. Does it start up? If not, are you at least getting gray smoke?

b. If you are getting good gray smoke on the start attempt but no start or stumbling while intermittently firing, you might try and small shot of ether to help it along while cranking. Hopefully this will be enough to help it start. TAKE IT EASY with the ether. Just a little (1 or 2 second shot while cranking).

7. If the engine does start. As Harvey mentioned, if there was some type of problem, like a dead cylinder or other problem, the engine will not sound real happy to be running. A dead cylinder could be something as simple as a bad or dirty injector. Remove them all and have them pop tested, balanced, and cleaned if needed. It could also be a bad pump. Best to try to get it running first and THEN we can assess what conditions need to be looked at and corrected.

I bought my John Deere 4410 in November of 2002 and she is still running strong after nearly 10 years. Knock on wood, I have done only regular scheduled maintenance with the exception of changing out the battery for a sealed AGM battery to prevent radiator and oil cooler corrosion.

It has developed a really slow fuel leak I have not been able to track down just yet but I think it may be the fuel tank.

The eHydro transmission has worked well but if I had it to do over again, I would NOT get the eHydro. It just NEVER had a nature feel to it, it is a bit sluggish in response to operator input and gets even more snappy engagement as the transmission oil gets hot.

After digging a wildlife refuge pond with a John Deere 310G 4WD TLB equipped with a manual transmission and directional shuttle shift, I think that is the way to go. It truly did spoil me.

All said though, for the money, the little 4410 has definitely earned its keep. It is very small and with the addition of a set of John Deere 42 inch forks is a major asset around the farm and the beekeeping operation. It is also great for cleaning up and cutting trails in the forest for the hunt clubs and our own access. It is a fuel misser that burns about a gallon per hour.

Just yesterday I used it to level out and move around about 120 tons of base gravel mix for the farm entrance and parking areas.

Not debating the suggestions for making a post in the ground to be installed to last. Pipeline right or way easements regularly have heavy equipment come through to trim back trees, cut trees that become "danger trees", and mow/bushhog. Fencing that is installed to last on a permanent basis in the long run may be more cost effective but I suspect the pipeline easement people want the pipeline easement left open or at least fenced in such a way that it can easily and without damaging the fencing be opened up. My suggestion would be to coordinate with the pipeline supervisor to see if they would either cost share or bare the entire cost of a simple steel T-post and barbed wire fence with 4 to 5 wires depending upon the height you want to go with and and simple steel gate that can all be purchased at the local Coop or Tractor Supply Center. T-Posts can easily be pulled up with the proper puller undamaged if need be and later reinstalled. They will STILL provide just as much deterent to trespassers as a more expensive and permanent fence. This is what I use to keep ATV riders off of our property. They make a trail......my hunt club guys fence it off with T-posts and barbed wire. They go around the fenced off area, they add more T-posts and barbed wire. Eventually these douche bags get the idea and find some place else. Hidden IR/Passive flash and other types of trail/game cameras and recording devices also go a LONG ways to identifying the dirtbags who refuse to abide by the NO trespassing signs. I have also had some success in writing, speaking with, and lobbying my state representatives to amend the trespassing code to make it a criminal act and NO LONGER a civil issue to trespass and the crime becomes aggravated criminal trespassing if any signs are disturbed or and damage is done to fences, gates, or the property. The penalty is still a misdemeanor but now instead of a civil fine, the accused is charged criminally and must retain an attorney or plead guilty in general sessions court. This will amount to about $2500 for an attorney plus the fine and court costs. It's not a perfect solution, but it's a start.
