Recently, while trying to start my old 1986 JD755 Model (following many months of trouble free operation) after turning the ignition switch to the off position and back again to engage the starter, the starter would not crank. The starter has been rebuilt and the battery was replaced with a new one a short time ago. The fuel pump was replaced about a year ago. With the ignition switch on and engaged, the dash panel indicator, head and tail lights are in working order. However, the fuel pump does not have the familiar "clicking" sound of fuel being pumped to the injection pump and the starter motor is silent. Being somewhat of a novice mechanic, is there some way I can troublshoot this problem by tracing electrical current, wire problems, faulty switch, etc. Please advise. Thanks

AHHHHHH!!!!! The PTO BRAKE. These are truely a pain. I know why they are there BUTTTTTTTT!

On my 4400 JD I ease the pto lever into the run position and bring the throttle up. shutting down I throttle back to idle, here is where you will see your over running clutch at work especially with brush cutter. I then ease the pto lever out of the run position and bring back to the edge of the brake position and finish letting the cutter spin down before bringing the lever into the lock position. I do not think I have missed this procedure with brush cutter yet. But my hat came off under a low branch when I was mowing the lawn. I was on the clutch, brakes and pto all at same time and pto when from full speed to lock in an intant you outta heard the belts squeak then...

I forgot the about trenching question. I don't know the diameter of pipe or depth needed. I've heard of people using sub-soilers or middle-busters (lister plows) for similar work. They are a little like big scarifiers and I think they can be rigged for one cutter.

I think various width cutters are available for them and they do throw the soil in both directions, which makes sort of a furrow. Sizable rocks in the soil may give them trouble and they may not open a wide enough trench deep enough for the pipe. People also use one bottom moldboard plows. Since I don't have any of these I'd have to use my backhoe or rent a trencher. Rocks also give hoes and trenchers problems.

Sounds Like a pretty slick set up. I have been searching about the zero % financeing. All the articles I have read so far are relateing to people not negotiating or not qualifying for the 0%. I read that less than 10 out of 100 who apply actually get the 0%. You sure need to make sure you read what you sign. If you dont qualify I would think you would have to shop around. I got in on the 36 month plan which made for BIG payments. I understand now though that they have a 60 month plan. I see JD and kubota are at 0 % for thirty six months. If you qualify and are still able to work a cempetitive deal I guess I sure dont see the down side.

I am on way to Marks house for breakfast. If I time it right I might get to AC's place just in time for some smoked meat, lol. Cutter, You might well be talking about the metro park right my house adjoins. No joke. We were in the NRA mags and had a lot of articles published about the deer population problem. Sadly all good intentions can go astray when you get politics involved. We had the anti-wildlife folks picketing, which was good for a laugh. It started out as archery only. The problem was no one was really shooting the dog gone does because we had so many enourmous bucks. I literally saw the biggest Buck ever less than 100 yards from my sub. Easily 180+ B/C. So the next year the powers that be decided to include shotguns. IMHOP not the brightest idea in a park. Especially when they didn't bother to notify all of the surrounding homes about the hunt. oops. It finally has been thinned down now we are only about 100% overpopulated for the acerage. It honestly has made a big difference but it is not unusual on the NE corner of the park to see 40 deer out at a time. The deer eating from my bird feeders in my photos are Park deer. I can certainly understand your buddys perspective. As much as I love to hunt I find it a very anti-climatic activeity. If thoose steaks weren't so darn good I proboably would not waste the time. All of the meat here went to food prograns for the needy.

Thanks! It sounds like the difference between changing the governor calibration, which changes the fuel delivery at any given rpm or changing the max throttle position. Today, most of us have some control over the max throttle position through the max no-load rpm adjustment but the calibration requires shim or different governor weights. If the pumps, rather than the governors can be adjusted, then I'll be learning something. In practice, I just stick with the factor adjustments because I almost always run out of traction before I run out of power anyway.

Around here you still see some logging trucks that may have given rise to the expression 'dumping the coal to it,' although the expression probably actually came from steam engines. Black smoke rolling out of them is a sure sign that the fuel has been turned up or the drivers are running them seriously hot.

Richard: I recall a discussion about this type of unit awhile back. I don't recall if you were part of the discussion but finding a new favourite implement from any source always is a good thing. I believe the theory of these things is that the churn the material so the larger aggregate ends up on the bottom, which makes for more durable pothole fills. I don't recall if the mount is a drawbar or 3ph type.

If you have any good hills on the drive you might say how the unit behaves when fiorst starting up or going down a hill. I do your work on my shorter drives with a box scraper. It tends to take bigger bites when first starting up a hill and I often lengthen the top-link a bit until the entire box gets on the new grade (or else the hill keeps getting a bit longer and then I start building a second hill). Well, maybe I exaggerate a bit but the Grademaster may work with less fiddling than my box scraper.

Your grasses that you are mowing will make the most difference as Murf stated. With ther hydro you can get thru most anything but for the width you will be decreaseing your ground speed. You have to remember that when using a brush-hog style the wider the deeper or further back from the tractor you will be. That could also cause problems. One of my favorite mowers is the 84T by Bush-hog that is a twim spindle 84" that even has an offst built into it which makes it nice for fence trimming and isn't any sdeeper then a 48" mower so you can get by with less front weight to counter balance.

Hopefully it was just that batch. I have a couple on hand as well as tranny filters and fortuneately they are fine. Its certainly a good idea to always check any filter though.

I've located a B2710 with FEL, Woods 6' finish mower, 5' tiller, 5' box blade, Mid PTO (no mower), lift boom, and 6' J-tooth drag for $16500. It was purchased in 11/2000 and has 123 hours on it and documented service. I've seen new tractors and equipment at dealers that didn't look this clean.

Should I bite on this one?

I know what I would do. But it is not what has been suggested (except for Art about the moldboard). I would buy a GOOD used moldboard plow, two bottom. That would get you down below the sod and break everything up really well. Then I would use a 7 shank field cultivator. Everyone around here calls them a tiller. They are real good for working a garden also. Not only will this work, but it would save you some money,

I just found a Long 460, 1985 model at the NH/Kubota dealer. It shows 800+ hours, but who knows if it's accurate. They didn't know much about it and didn't know how to start it! Does this tractor have some hidden secret?
They're asking $4950. Reasonable or rediculous?

Tubeless, from the factory, when we fill them we put tubes in. Some dealers don't and some do, would make a difference of the cost of your purchase.

I need to replace the engine in a B6100DT. Can any one tell me what engine models will fit? I believe that it has a D650-A. I have seen D722, D750, D850, D905, D950 and others. Do they all share the same block and have different displacements? Any recommended sources for discounted engine parts?
