I'm sure you're aware that JD and Kubota has zero interest for 24 -36 months? When I bought my 4210 I was going to pay cash, but was informed of the zero interest so I decided to use their money for 24 months and make payments. I don't know where you're located but used compact tractors are a big demand here in Northern California. I sold my JD 750 4x4 with FEL, box scraper and 350 hrs for $8500

I dont usually see too many of theese but I think they are a pretty slick cartridge. For some reason lately I have seen a lot of 375 '94's out for sale. Any cartridge that tosses a 200 grain slug over 2400 fps is at least a Big bore contender in my book. The beefed up '94 XTR was a nice improvement with the ability to mount a scope on a lever Winchester in the traditional fashion. I think Marlin brough out the 336ER about the same time. Maybe ER stands for Emergency Room because anything that gets smacked with one of theese bad bays is going to be in need of a quick trip there. I think Speer makes bullets for theese still and as far as I know winchester is still the only Factory load. A really nice pick for a Big Bore.

Kasey, as Mark stated the cutters themselves are rated as to the horsepower range they recommend, however, this does NOT take into account the load you will put on them, this is why it is a range. Smaller tractors can run a bigger mower on lighter tasks but you run a very real risk to your equipment trying to do heavy work with an implement that is too big for you unit.

As a rule of thumb you need about 5-6 hp per foot of cutter for average work, as the cutting gets heavier the horsepower required goes up exponentially.

I have seen 25 pto hp units running 7' cutters for years with no problems, but not for any heavy work. Likewise, I have seen 40 pto hp units running 5' bush-hogs where the pto clutch was completely gone in 24 hrs cutting time.

If you're trying to cut fairly heavy grass I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than a 5' bush-hog for your machine.

Just to talk a little fun we had here a few years back, We took a 1466 IH tractor and cranked the torque screw all the way, had 165 when getting to rated RPM and held it to 225 horsepower when at the rated RPM. We did the same with the fuel screw and had the same results just a little more haze on the exhaust. That particular pump will only push to 225 horsepower in it's original state. We have had fun, taken to soft of iron engines and destroyed them with being to tight and installing to big of turbos and destroyed crank and rods. We have spun them to over 5000 rpm and had no failures on some and wouldn't dare to go past 3000 on others for fear of disintegration even on standard fuel delivery systems.

Barney, the down 'n' dirty solution is to takes the blades of the mower and sharpen the back edges. It won't work great, but it will cut grass.

The easiest solution I've seen is to have a 'hanging' gear box made, an old automotive timing chain (but with 2 EQUAL size gears) in a piece of structural tube steel sealed for an oil-bath lube system to convert your unit to a front-facing pto and get a long drive-shaft made. Besides a front-mount mower is WAY nicer to cut with.

Doc, sorry for the delay in answering, I have been behaving myself so the 'Warden' said I was allowed a couple of days liberty at the cottage.

The carry-all is made by several manufacturers, it is also really easy to make one yourself, even without a welder. Let me know if your interested on the welder-less version.

We use a shop-built platform that bolts to a standard Cat. 1 drawbar. The drum we use is a standard plastic 45 Imperial / 55 US gallon drum which lays sideways, locked into a cradle of strap steel on the platform. The drum has two 'bung' holes already, it is lined up so that the larger one is at the 12 o'clock position. There is a 90 degree elbow screwed into the upper hole for filling the drum. A 6' wide 'boom' made of 1" plastic pipe (drilled every 2") & a 'tee' fitting is screwed into the bottom hole with a valve at the outlet. Open the valve and drive away, gravity does the rest. A hydraulic top-link and the valve setting together allows for flow control if desired.

This setup also makes for REALLY easy application of CaCl on gravel drives too.

The disc will work and best with some type of soil relief as mentioned earlier in posts. Moldboard plows will give you a deeper area to work and might be needed in some types of soil more. I recommend tillers a lot and they do a real good job.

I looked at both the 2210 and the 4115. I went for the 4115 and I am real glad I made the choice. First off the 2210 only comes with AG or turf tires and I wanted the Industrial style tires (best of both worlds)The 4115 has a one piece frame and is a much heaver machine. The front loader handles a lot more weight and makes it look easy. The 3 point hitch can carry over a 1000 pounds. The 4115 is a Work tractor compared to a large Lawn style tractor you can move more and do more work with the 4115. This little tractor is a power packed little champ I am real pleased with my purchase. For the extra couple of grand it was a huge step up. I certainly agree with your scenario. I do not ever recall keeping a shot gun for home defense and for me a rifle is completely out of the question. We all live in different places though so it may well be different for others. I certainly would not want a SA revolver for this purpose so if it is not clear I assume we are only talking autos. I guess I just dont see all the ways to mess up with a SA automatic. It really seams to me that by far the largest debate for the two is one of concealed carry. Regular carry is really moot in my opinion as you have zero element of suprise and is simply impractical for the majority in daily use. The real debate there for most is carrying "Cocked and locked" not screwing up when drawing. If that or mechanical function is the concern a DA revolver cures all the problems associated with the debate. Unless you are in law enforcement then certainly the capacity in this day and age is of paramount importance. For home defense I just dont see the confusion or margin for mess ups, when you draw you drop. If I sweep the house the safety is already off. S/A or D/A the first choice is simply what works best for you and what you are most comfortable with. It really is a timeless debate. The far greater concern to me is the law. To my knowledge Texas is the best state to live in for home defense.

Yep very true. From all I've heard I think I'd find most pto brakes extraordinarily aggravating and defeating one (safety issues aside) sure would be tempting. Of course, a person should keep in mind that they'd likely be defeating any insurance at the same time.<br>

Seems like more time should have been put into engineering the things. After all, how safe is a safety feature so unfriendly that people are inclined to disable it? I suppose the safest tractor of all might be one with no moving parts. One would be great for a driveway ornament.<br>

I researched using this forum and purchased the JD Imatch today. I came home to hook-up to my "stuff" and as usual it doesn't fit any of my implements! The distance between the top link and the drop arm pins are not right and the JD Imatch does not have adjustable top link hook-up. I am not knocking JD cause I love the tractor...I just am sick and tired of them making all their products to fit JD exclusive. It is based on money, as in them making it, me spending it. I bought an aftermarket 6' rotary mower and made some things for the 3-point and I will not buy all JD implements. Will return Imatch and buy other brand that is not as greedy and will be a universal fit. Thanks for letting me vent, it just saved the dealer some headaches from listening to me whine!

My$.02 worth. I hardley ever idle little tractor eng during the summer. When I have been working the engine very hard mowing I bring it back to the garage a a medium idle in a lower gear that way the head and other parts cool down evenly.

During the winter I am apt to let engine idle a little longer than I probably should. But like Tom said I keep it at a fast idle to keep it warm.

Turbo charged engines need to idle down for a few minutes to allow the turbo to spin down with lubrication before shutting down. Other wise the turbo spins down with no lubrication.

I HAVE JUST PURCHASED 5 ACRES TO MOW, SNOW REMOVE AND DO SOME MOVING OF DIRT FROM ONE PART OF THE YARD TO THE OTHER. I'M PURCHASING A BX2200 WITH FRONT BUCKET, 60" DECK , REAR BLADE, AND LANDSCAPE RAKE. PLAN TO GET POST HOLE DIGGER LATER FOR SOME DIGGING. $4000+ LESS THAN BX22 AND I DON'T NEED THE BACKHOE THAT MUCH. AM PAYING SOMEONE ELSE FOR OCCASIONAL DEEP DIGGING.
