Didn't realize they were still sold in the U.S.. Even if they are, it takes the mention of a tractor of that caliber to associate it with air cooled diesel.
Air cooling is done for two reasons in non avaition applications. It is cheaper and much less complex. Same reason that the first VW's used the system in the 30's. Air cooling has applications. Who wants a radiator on a chainsaw? It is never chosen in an application where noise is an issue. How many quiet chainsaws are there? Take John Deere garden tractors. The less expensive ones are air cooled and when you pay more you get water cooled machines. The early Honda garden/lawn tractors were water cooled. When they cheapened the line (as cheap as Honda does) to meet a lower price point they did it by switching to air cooled engines. This whole thread got side tracked a little by the air cooled thing. If Eicher were water cooled my opinion would not be a whole lot different. I really need to know what I missed on their web site. Is there more than one? There was no mention of live PTO, shuttle, or syncro transmission. So cars have dry brakes, that makes them the preferred system for tractors? JD 790's have dry brakes, because JD 790's are an old design and built to a price point. When the 00 series became the improved 10 series, they certainly didn't change wet brakes to dry as one of the improvements.

Yanmar greys are bought for one reason they are inexpensive and reliable. 2 cyl 2WD models are not bought for versatility. There are 3 cyl 4WD's imported too and they bring much more money because they are much more versatile. City and county and state governemnts can't afford teachers, schools, police, firemen or new roads. It stands to reason they would get out of a required new tractor purchase as cheap as possible. I for one would not be happy to give up fire protection then see the road crews running around in new JD's
In this country there is a segment of the population who will buy Eichers. As long as they have a complete accurate and realistic view of the machine and it's capabilities, fine for them. Where I take exception is when they are touted to be something they are not. The 364 as I see it is a small utility tractor designed for farm use best suited to a narrow range of applications. Bushhogging, haying, old fashoned pulling and plowing - fine. Grass cutting, frequent FEL work, typical homeowner, small landowner use - not so fine.

I would suggest you don't hear from Eicher owners on this forum because there aren't any. Maybe of some farmers forum, but not here.

I have a 2001 4 x4 Chevy Sub. and I am going to buy a 03 Chevy 2500 with a 4.10 rear Avalanche in a couple of days.

But nothing beats my Ford F350 4 x4. I have the crew cab and the 8ft bed with a sray on liner. I took this beast off road in the Florida Evergaldes last weekend and this is the truck to own if your doing any off roading.

The Sub. is nice but that Ford really handles the terrain like nothing I have ever driven. Goin back for more this weekend!

Years ago, I found myself not so much getting caught with the ROPS on my B's, rather when using the backhoe, I kept bashing in my skull on the top bar of the ROPS. At the time, orange had an optional ROPS kit that once installed inplace of the standard ROPS, afforded the user an additional 10 inches of operating height for the head.

The only problem...if you think the present day ROPS are tall, man you should tried putting one of these babies away for the night. I did not have this tall ROPS set myself, however, the nightmares that surfaced were very understandable.

What I ended up doing, keep in mind this is back sixteen years now, and out of warranty, was to cut the ROPS down at the vertical base bars. Then I welded inside a slightly smaller square tube as a stud that protruded upwards about six inches. Horizontally bored a 3/4 inch hole completely through the two assemblies on tractor frame as well as the slide over area of the now cut off ROPS, to accomodate a couple of 3/4 inch grade 8 bolts. Lock them together, and I have ROPS when I need them or no ROPS when I don't need them. 1-2-3 easy removal and installation!

Hi all, the new injector pump is a rebuilt unit and I still had the old injector pump so I plugged that back in but no luck there either. I was pouring over my now very well - worn service manual last night was found something about setting the smoke control. There are a few adjustable controls which are fast and slow idle along with the
smoke control. Pump control arm seems okay for free movement but I'm going to tear into it again and check the governor and linkage. Maybe something not quite right in there is giving me this erratic behavior. That and I'll see about the smoke control tonight. Maybe just too much fuel and the smoke control
allows more air to even out the mixture? The manual doesn't describe it's function, just the adjustments. Think we're getting closer....

Have you turned the rims around? If they are set at narrow width you can reverse them and add 6-8" to the foot print. The procedure is explained in your manual.

Most older submarines were diesel powered. What happened to your tractor would be a natural mistake for any WW2 history buff.

Good thing he didn't read up on diesel locomotives. You would be doing some serious body work too.

If you are speaking of the bypass filter system, I put one in years ago.

It all depends on how much room you have under the hood, how accessible the engine compartment is and if there is a lot of junk in the way. I put it on a 79 Ford van and it had lots of smog cannisters/pumps/hoses to work around.

I'm guessing that there is plenty of room to work in that diesel engine compartment.

I guess, if all else fails, you can always convert the 4000 TEN series back to the 4000? It's my understanding the hydros are the same except for it being electronically controlled. Just change it back to the way it used to be.

I can't believe that the C. of G. of any CUT is not WAY forward of the mid point of the unit, the engine, front axle and tires are certainly going to outweight the rear axle and tires. If this is the case then driveing uphill would have the effect of centering the C. of G. by shifting it back, it would also shift more weight onto the rear wheels. A loader would make it even more so.

Also, bear in mind that if the implement on the 3pth is a bush hog, then only 50% of it's weight would be on the 3pth, the balance would be riding on it's tail wheel.

I do agree however with the notion of reversing from the point that IF you were to slide, at least you would be in a more natural driving position to attempt some sort of steering input to regain at least directional control.

With equipment such as a dozer, you always back down and push up the hill when possible, mostly to keep the heavy engine on the uphill side, and the weight is then better centered to improve stability and more importantly traction. The theory being if you run out of steam with a blade full of dirt half way up the hill you can always back downhill away from the pile and the machie is not then stuck on the hill.

Around here the ski hills are cut with the same groomers they use in the winter, instead of a dozer blade in front they have a self-powered flail mower out front, and they always cut bottom to top. When they reach the top they drive down an access trail off to the side then start cutting again from the bottom.

I had to work at the images. It seemed to be a comprise between size and quality. Also I used photosuite 2000 to make the images. One image is scanned. All images were originally at 2.0 mp. I do use use a fuji finepix 2800 for the images. It uses a special pixel that isn't exactly square to improve quality. I believe they have a name like ccd pixel or something. I don't know if this translates back to the computer or not. They were barely under 28k something like 27.9

The last time I looked into the BIO Diesel I saw that it was being sold commercially in some states like Nevada. They are apparantly recycling the oil fro all of the Fryers in the Hotels and casinos. The only draw back is that your exhaust might slell like french frys. lol

I have one front tire that refuses to stay inflated...even after being kicked several times. The leak is so small I cant find it. I have already resorted to carrying a spare front tire and rim. I guess I am going to try the green goo from TSC. At least its the right color if it blows up later !

It sure seems like it would be worth the cleaning of the concrete now for the ease of clean up later. I also like the way it looks. I was thinking about power washing with chemicals first.

I never thought of putting weight in the loader. I guess I figured that most digging tends to raise the rear and would increase pressure of the front. The purpose of the loader would be to stop the tractor from pivoting on its front wheels and the purpose of digging in the blade would be to keep the hoe from dragging the tractor towards the hole. I never thought about it too much since my hoe doesn't have the power to muscle the tractor around too much. I do get shocks that tend to lift the front from jerky operation and mutter at myself the few times I still do it.

Now that I think about it, if I had a bigger bucket than I do and a lighter tractor, swinging full buckets could put a lot of twist on the tractor and make it tippy. A standard hoe safety rule is never dump to the downhill side. Jerks during swings would make it much worse. Weight in the bucket could be a definite advantage although it sure would increase stress on the tractor.

Willie's comment about breaking tractors when driving full buckets and loaders made me recall a story. I've heard of tractors breaking during highway transport on trailers when buckets weren't sat down on the trailer deck. I can't remember if the story was about a hoe or a loader, but you can get some huge shocks to tractors on trailers at highway speeds. People who buy short trailers put themselves at risk.

Tractors are often rated in terms of PTO HP. If the Bobcat is rated in engine HP, a 25 HP tractor may have about the same power. My 24 HP tractor with a 'nothing special' loader is rated to lift 800 lbs. full-height, which is fairly typical for this sized tractor. I don't know how that compares with the Bobcat. I think adapters are available so Bobcat type attachments can be used on many tractors.

We mow about 2-acres total in two properties. Each have out buildings and a bunch of trees etc. Despite having the tractor, we mow with a 12HP riding mower because it's faster. A mower on the tractor takes time to maneuver and leaves a lot of trimming to do. A mid rather than a rear mower may be better at mowing but they are expensive and often are not compatible with loaders. Our riding mower is a beater too and I wonder what I'll do when I can't keep it going. At least with a tractor that had turf tires I have the option of getting a 3ph mower.
