Jeffie, two little tidbits of info I don't have might help me to make a guess-timate.

First, I don't know what the weather was like there in 'Joisey', if it was really warm, the amount of extra heat required to cause an overheat might not be very much, the mouse nest might be enough, on the other hand if it was a cold day, the amount of work to cause the overheating from work alone would be significant.

Secondly, you didn't state, was the smoke coming from the exhaust, or just coming from the engine generally. If the smoke was coming from the exhaust I wouldn't be so concerned since any burning oil would cause smoke, this alone doesn't indicate damage.

It's not possible that the engine was just overfull with oil was it? It sure would explain the situation.

Clumping is not normal for any mower, you call your Cub a 'new' machine, did it come with regular blades (minimal sail area.

If you formerly ran Gator or high air-flow blades and so you are used to the high air-flow which you would not get with the new machine's regular blades.

Cutter if tractor supply does not have them or is not open today, the best bet is a good ag tire dealer that repairs tires. They will have quality ones on the shelf.<br>

If as Peters said; you can buy the complete kit and just take the top half.<br>

When I got my old M they were completely rotted out. Two new ones fixed problem. I robbed mine off the complete valve stem repair assembly from new parts. I had lots of problems with flats on 2 different jobs and managed to rip out a stem 2X.<br>

Me thinks still cheaper even if you can not find just the stem/valve assembly.<br>

The part # for the tractor tire valve is: TECH 6218 this is a complete patch to repair a ripped out stem. Have a box of 10 and only 3 stem patches used but have used 7 of the valve assemblys.<br>

I bought them directly from TECH in Layafette, NY.<br>

PS use never/anti seize on the new threads.<br>

Jerry,

Which model FEL was that? "I got the B7500 with FEL, brush guard, R4's, and foldable ROPS for $12,150".

I was looking at a B7500HSD this week with the 302FEL and the quote was 12,550. Just curious if your was the same loader. That is a nice price.

I ordered a 4115 from my dealer, but now am having 2nd thoughts especially after comparing the 4115 side-by-side with the 4210. Both tractors will do the same work for me, and each has advantages and disadvantages over the other. Where the 4210 is stronger for certain kinds of work, the 4115 is more maneuverable. I have 5 acres, 2 of which is lawn. I have a 1000'gravel driveway that can only be snowblown, yard work that includes moving sand, gravel, and loam. I won't ever need a backhoe. Neither tractor is to be used for lawn cutting. The price difference between the base tractors is close, the only real price difference is in the cost of the implements...a loader, snowblower, and front blade. The dealer may have the 4115 already for me to pickup and setup with a soft cab. If I tell him I want the 4210, he may just not want to deal with me at all. Any opinions?<br>

Thinking of a Kubota MX 5000.

As to condition of the 950... 15 years of VERY LIGHT USE so it has some minor scratches, etc. Garaged all those years so there is no rust. Tires are in new condition. Exhaust stack isn't even rusted.

Used for light plowing (garden), stone rake, brush hog, and a bit of logging.

I recently got a letter from New Holland suggesting that I extend the
warranty I got when I purchased the tractor. The current warranty will
expire in July. The tractor was purchased new in July 2001.
Is this a good idea?

It's a good deal except for the location and competition, Kubota's, Deere's, etc. If you find one locally, it would be worth looking at. Last week a 17 horse Speedex with a lot of implements was advertised in the local classified for $500.00. It was sold in a few hours. Good Luck with your tractor searching. Carl

I need suggestions to upgrade tires that wont rub against my 44" deck or other parts..The unit came with lame 2 ply
tires sizes Front : 16 x 6.50 -3 NHS Rear: 23 x 9.50 -12 NHS stock tires

Any Ideas? 4 Ply or higher and more for Turf not full AG or Hill climbing type tires desired..

Out of fairness you need to compare equal brands and models.
The Cub cadet 3235 or 3000 series compares equally with the Gx series from JD. Execept when Liquid cooled or diesel are need, JD offers that, Cub dosent...The Home Depot models are not in the same league and most likely will not handle your reguirements...Garden Series tractors are what you are asking for.

I was told that it is not a good idea to mow with the bucket loader attached. But I see my neighbors doing it all the time. I do have a pretty steep hill in the front. Should i take the bucket loader off ?

You got a GREAT price a a great tractor. I am in southern Michigan and bought mine in Feb. There are none on the lots here now and my dealers says he has several sold that will arrive in june. They are going to be a VERY popular model.

Thanks for all the replies. I will continue to make my decision and of course I will test drive all of them before I decide. The JD dealer had a sand pile to test the FEL and I thought that was great. I will also look at the Kiote if I can find a dealer.

MJW, you have a bad (brand new) injector in there. What is happenening is that when you shut down the engine, the defective injector is not holding pressure and allowing the fuel in the line to drain down into the cylinder. The smoke is all that raw fuel burning off when you first start it. The machine will run (almost) normally under these condiditons since there is such a small amount of fuel that can get into the cyclinder between power strokes. The leakage must be slow because it will not lose it's prime for a few hours, however in a perefect world it should hold pressure for ever. It's unlikely you were sold 'new' injectors, they are probably rebuilt ones, and mistakes do happen.

The solution is simple, pull out all the injectors and take them to a diesel injection specialist (or the place you got them from) and have them checked.

I have never had anyone ask to use the tractor, but ask can you come over and do some work. I live in the country and most are familiar with tractors and cost so they don't ask. I prefer to lend myself and my time with the tractor. We all think a borrower nor a lender be, bit that is not really in scripture.

I remember some old discussions where people said that going from bias to radial tires improves traction a lot. I took a hop into the Firestone Ag tire page because I didn't know if ags and radials went together--they do. Firestone also claims their 20-some degree bars give 15% more traction than traditional 45-degree bars. That may be just advertising but seems like there's a bunch that can be learned about tires.

There also are radial versions of R4' it seems and I had thought that all R4's were bias tires. I was going to ask AC how the R4's did on side hills since I heard that the rigid side-walls of R4's may not flex enough to allow full width tread contact when on side hills. Guess you'd have to ask if they are radial R4's first.

Another old saw is that loaded tires gain traction from the weight but loose some from tread distortion, which leads to the notion that there may be an optimal loading for tires on a particular tractor. I suppose that old saw too may be irrelevant with radial tires. I think tractor pull tractors use rotating weights on the axles for loading but I'm not sure whether liquid loading cuts traction or takes power. I believe they do cut the lugs on ag tires down to gain traction, or maybe it's to keep from breaking them off.

This learning stuff just goes on and on. At least I already know that if I went out today after yesterday's rain to turn over my compost pit, then I'd wish I had ags. Just throwing some stuff out here and maybe I'll learn some more from the replies.
