i just purchased a 1920 new holland 4x4, shuttle shift ,w/loader and 6'box scrape for $15400.00 + $80 tax. the tractor is less than a year old 100hrs im in western north carolina. was the best deal i could find on a compact, not many around to pick from unless you buy new. the tractor has r1 tires the dealer said r4s are not avaliable on this model,just wondering how true this is. thanks to everyone on the mboard ive been checking it for the past 6months , really helped. ps i checked out the

I purchased a Woods/Gill HBL84 and am VERY pleased with it. It weighs over 450# and tilts, swivels and offsets. It did an outstanding job of snow removal this year, especially compared to the light duty 6' blade that came with my tractor. I'd buy it again if I had it to do over again...

Sorry Guys,<br>I forgot to mention that I would only be using the R4s/Turfs in 2wd for mowing <br>lawn. Then switch the fronts back to the R4s for 4wd use. I only need 4wd for <br>snow or loader work requiring 4wd.

Which Compact?<br>OK everyone, I've been reading as many of these as I can, now I need some specific opinions. I'm in the process of building my home on 15 acres. I intend on doing the landscaping myself. Once the house is done I want to be able to mow both my lawn (around trees and shrubs) and a 4.5 acre seeded, flat, smooth pasture. Assuming I will need a loader and belly mower. Live PTO? Which tractor? New? Used? I'm posting this on Kubota and Deere.

Get a coring aerator and run over it a few times the turn your landscape rake<br>backwards and drag it out. This will also help the lawn. I do it here in SW MS <br>every couple of years.good luck Tony

I suppose I should let you in on a little 'northern' secret - it's a _lot_ easier to drive in & on snow when the temp is 10 degrees, than when the temp is 28 degrees. Cold snow & ice is not nearly as slippery as stuff around freezing. That slush junk with freezing rain you get is just miserable. <br>But out here on the farm 4 foot drifts are the norm.<br>--->Paul<br>

I have a 1996 Kubota that has developed a sticking throttle. It springs<br>back about 1/2 way, but will not return to idle. I have to pull up on <br>the foot pedal with the back of my foot. <br>I've disconnected the linkages and the throttle itself (on the engine)<br>appears to be very hard to turn. There is a spring on the back of the <br>linkage, but it looks too light to be a return spring.<br>Does anyone have experience with servicing this mechanism? I've been <br>over it moderately well, and I don't see anything obvious.<br>I'm awaiting my factory service manual.<br>JD

Check the radiator, see if it's clogged with debris. I had a similar problem and that's all that it was, dirty radiator fins.<br>

Welcome. Mine stick out about two feet and are spring steel. I'd be tempted to<br>use automotive leaf springs from a light car with lots of springs....like an <br>old military jeep or a model A Ford....Or stop by the spring shop and ask for<br>some scrap like this. They can punch bolt holes and chop the ends to a point<br>as well. Surely 1/2

And I have picked up a lot of hay with wooden tines. You would be surprised

Get the heaters. They are a hundred dollar option on a 20K machine. In real cold<br>weather you will start easily when diesels without them will not start at all.<br>I plug mine in for 30 min. before starting when the temp. is below freezing.<br>Really reduces wear on the parts.

I have a JD material collection system - the one that raises up and dumps. It might be a bit of overkill but it works very well, especially for picking up leaves. It always raises fine and makes the swing around the top to dump. sometimes, however, on the way down it swings back very slowly and lowers very slowly with a definite twist indicating that both sides are not coming down evenly. Once down, the latches do not pull down tight. I have ensured that the guide bars are clean and smooth although they aren't even in the picture yet when the swing back is taking place. What can cause this - it doesn't happen all of the time but often enough to be a pain. My guess is that one of the cylinders is not working properly but I am new at debugging hydraulic problems - what would cause it or am I off base? I don't want to go through the expense of replacing the cylinder only to find the condition doesn't change.<br>Any ideas out there?<br>thanks
