Price is ok SOB. I just paid 17,600 for the same machine without super steer but with a 5 ft. bush hog. Bushhog works great only adjust your speed if you are mowing high grass. If I was in your shoes I would go look at new before I made a decision. I looked for 5 months before I ended up buying new, I felt hte used prices wher to close to new. Hope this helps good luck.

My farm in northeast gergia has a couple acres of "lawn" near the barn and along the driveway. The condition of the "lawn" is pretty rough- a mixture of grass types-looks like common bermuda and fescue, lots of weeds and, in places, a somewhat rough surface area (dips and depressions up to 6"inches deep). The lawn area is surrounded with 40 acres of pasture with a very good hay crop- but lots of weeds too. I'd like to take steps now to improve it, though I don't expect it to be golf course-like. But it would be nice to see it become more uniform in texture and in smoothness-it's sort of beating up my mower and my back. I would be nice if this was something I could do a little of each year and gradually manicure it in the process.

Sounds like quite a scam. I paid $11.26 for the little filter. If I'd have known what was going on I would have asked for the bigger one. I'd waste the difference in gas money to go exchange it now though. Thanks for your help.

I also went through the oredal of comparing the new compacts to my 1952 8N, for sevearal years. I did purchase a new tractor this past July. When comparing the compacts to the 8N you can't go by horsepower alone. Weight is also a factor.
The 8N is 2WD, if you compare a compact of the same HP and weight in 2WD you will have to look at a larger HP compact tractor. The rear tire width difference between the compact's and the N series tractors is another thing you have to get used to. The 8N is a very stable wide stance tractor.

When you add 4WD to the mix the compact tractor of equal horsepower to the 8N starts to look beter. 4WD allows you to do things you only dreamed of with a 2WD tractor. You now can back out of situations especially with a bucket full of dirt a 2WD tractor can not.

I looked at the blue, green, and orange tractors compaired all the features, prices, and dealer service before I made my choice. I went with the Kubota L3000DT. This is an 8 speed geared tractor. Engine HP is 30 and it is close to the 8N in weight. I looked at the JD 790 and the NH TC33 both nice machines but I went with the orange one. I really like my Kubota and the manual transmission is something I had to work with before.

I was able to keep the 8N, I plan on rebuilding it at some point. I taught my wife to drive the standard transmission, no problem there. This website was very helpful in the decision making process. Look at the comments other owners have made about the particular tractor you are loking at.

Has anyone been using a PT-2422? Does the higher profile alter the stability? Any problems / praises for the backhoe unit? Is the engine sufficient for what you are doing with the machine? Any problems with the Robbins engine? Thanks for any/all feedback... will post my own impression next week as I plan on visiting the plant on Saturday.

Sparky when you get a small job or any job to do ask if you might rent it. A short time with it and you would know how it will work for you. After sitting for a year I would make sure the chain has plenty of oil on it to loosen up the links so they don't break from being set-up. You may need an extra set of remotes to work it so beware of additional costs. We do have a lot of stones up here but they are still one of the best ways to do things for your work I have seen. Think of the mess with a backhoe! If you "V" the route you take with a shovel first you can make it like you were never there when done.

Seems like everyone goes through the same process. Start looking, come accross PT on the web, and start digging for everything they can. I'll check on the height for loading a pickup from the side, although I won't have that need myself. Perhaps some others out there can comment on this.

As for mounting a ball hitch, my understanding is they have a small extension piece that bolts to the back to put the ball a few more inches out from the frame to allow clearence for larger hitches. I'm just wondering what the effective rating at the toung would be under this configuration. I did receive a call from Bryan who had also posted here (same process 10 months ago). He loves that machine and has made his own hitch... no problems hauling a trailer of dirt around, so it may not really effect the machines performance.

I find it amazing when comparing the stats to JD, Kubota, Ingersol, Steiner, Ventrac etc. It will be fun to check these things out in person. I am also really getting attached to the idea of eliminating belts as part of any PTO.

I'll let you know what I find out.

The conversion of H2O to the gaseous components is accomplished by new, proprietary patented technology. It is done using a very sophisticated electrolysis system. The water they recommend as 'fuel' for the unit, I understand, is distilled as a by product from some type of manufacturing process and they are able to get it at a very low cost on that basis. The unit has only a very low 12 volt power draw from the vehicle.

You might try phoning information for there number and see what they have to say. There are many trailer companies all over the country I would make sure is the size that you are looking for and it is built the way that you want it. The price seems fine if it is a comparable trailer to ours.

I believe the R4's on the back are for better traction without having the issues of leaving marks like with Ag tires. Turf Tires are great for lawns but may not be the best for other tractor uses...

I think you are lucky to have the turf tires; it is an expensive option on the larger tractors. I like turfs for comfort, stability, and for being gentle on my ground. Like everything, they do have some drawbacks. And if you need a lot of traction in the winter you may want to make some chains for them. My experience is that they are more likely than the Ag tires to get punctures. If it was a major problem, I would probably get them foam filled. So far all that has been needed is a tubeless tire repair kit which consists of some gummy rubber strips and a tool looking something like a giant sewing needle. It has never been necessary to dismount the tire from the rim.

I just received a Rockaway landscaping rake which works with my Kubota L3010. This rake was originaly designed for skid steers, but now can be operated with a compact tractor. You need a remote hydralic valve with the lines ending about 2-3 feet from the bucket. Drill a 1 1/4" hole on each side of you bucket and this attachment hooks up in less than a minute. The Rockaway has 4" bar with carbite teeth which rotates and throws the rocks into your bucket and allows the topsoil to fly out through the screened frame. It will eat off the high spots to fill in the low. Using this machine only requires a quarter of the time that you would spent using a blade, conventional rake and the time spent hand raking and shoveling rocks and roots. I have done quite a few yards already and was very pleased wit every one. Rockaway is really something to see.

I'm confused about that $13/hr figure. Are they reducing the value of nearly new tractors by that amount per hour used? There must be some sort of sliding scale....How is price determined for a tractor with a thousand hours?
