Well guys I've tried checking the fluid level and the lift seems to have gotten weaker. Anyway when I use the lift for any period of time (10-15 Mins) it progessively gets worse until it finally quits completely. Tom I think it was you that asked if the pump makes a noise. Something does, it sounds kinda like power steering on a car when it's low on fluid. I noticed some talk about pressure valve adjustments on the chat ..... could that be a possible solution?

The reason for the orange paint is so they can find it in the tall grass after it brakes down. Now Kubota paints thier tractors orange so the state highway dept. don't have to repaint them. Also the match the sunset when riding into it!

Trae, you point out something I often over-look, and I apologize for it, as I sit here looking out the office window past my monitor at the vast expanse of green grass and multi-hued flowers (mostly tulips still), it is very easy to forget that I am connected to a truly global world. We here in southern Canada have a blend of Bluegrass, Fescue and Rye. Bermuda grass does require a lot more coaxing to yield the 'stripe' effect because it is so course. With the grass we have you can accomplish designs with just a rake, never mind a mower. I can relate to Rods comments too, I even go to the extent of sowing perennial flowers in patterns in the grass, each flower with a different season, right now I have a very nice 3 sided design (a stylized Trillium, our Provincial flower) in the lawn, in what else?, Trilliums!! Another neat trick is underwater pots in the pond, arranged in a design and filled with water-lillies so that they bloom into a pattern. Too much time..... maybe? But I call it advertising, what the heck. Best of luck.

Harold, I think I can shed a little light on your problem, although I am sorry but it won't be good news. It sounds remarkably like what happened to nieghbours machine, basically the gear which slides to engage/disengage the pto slipped out of the shift fork and into the engage position. The mechanic at the dealer said it was a fairly commmon problem on some models. The pto shifter had worn or bent (or both) from many shifts over the years, allowing the fork to return to the neutral position without the mating gear. The thing you are 'bumping' into when trying to go back to the engage position is the gear that should be trapped in the shift fork. If this is the problem the fix is to disassemble the transmission and replace the worn items and re-assemble, not fun or cheap. I hope I'm wrong but it sure sounds like it. Best of luck.

All UDT fluid, not just Kubota's is manufactured to certain standards. If you look at the label of a container it will show the equivalent type of fluids IT can replace, John Deere, NH, etc., then by the same logic, those fluids can replace the Kubota fluid. Your dealer, and probably Kubota will try to scare you by saying that use of any other fluid voids your warranty. Rest assured, as long as you properly maintain your machine with quality parts, your warranty (and your tractor) will remain intact. Best of luck.

The 7234 is a 7000 series CUB 23HP 4WD Standard Transmission(Thus 7 23 4, a7232 is 2WD, 7235 is a Hydro 4x4). These were built between 1995-1997(maybe 1994-1997). The engine on this is a 3 cyl mitsubishi, which has plety of power for most task and runs very well. I just traded in My 7232 which is identical except for the 4WD. The tractor ran very good, but some of the things that bugged me were the cheap battery that leaked acid and cause rust in the battery tray, a poorly desgined lift mechanism for the 72" belly mower that was constanly breaking (don't know if the one you are looking at has a belly mower or not). I also broke one of the lower 3pt pivot pins once and instead of having an easily removable pin it was a bulky $60 plate that required the removal of 5 bolts and of course needed to me custom fit with a grinder. In 600 hrs of use I never had to take the tractor to the shop for any transmission or engine repairs. All and all I think it is a decently built tractor, I just had a few little annoyances with mine. The Cubs don't hold their resale value very good around here (Near St. Louis MO) and I'm guess that is probably true in most areas. A 7234 with a loader. I don't think I would give over 11,000 for that machine equiped with just the loader. (assuming 400-800hrs on it)Thats my 2C worth

Most hydraulic systems have a hex or square-headed plug that can be removed and a pressure gauge inserted for this very purpose. THis is because it is almost impossible to diagnose hydraulic systems without knowing the pressure. If you are shy about taking plugs out of the hydraulics, the shop manual will surely point to the system pressure inspection plug. Better yet is too know the pressure and flow, but that is more elaborate equipment. I use a simple pressure gauge that I got at the surplus shop. It is just like the ones from the welding shop except that mine is liquid filled. The liquid fill is not necessary, just nice to have. One from the welding shop will work fine. Get the range 0-5000 psi and make sure you can read 100 psi increments around 1000 to 2000 psi. You will also need an an adapter to go from the thread on the gauge to the NPT thread where you remove the inspection plug from the hydraulic system. That's all. Less than $20. Now you can check it any time you want. Or, just leave it in the system and by watching the pressure you can back-calculate the weight of the 3pt implement! You can also T into one of the lines to the loader, insert another gauge, and watch what happens to the pressure as you lift and dump..FUN!

Regarding anti-freeze: Much better than CACL I believe. CACL is pretty caustic stuff, and its main advantage is that it's cheap. It does weight slightly more than anti-freeze solutions. Ethyl glycol anti-freeze, is less caustic than CACL, but it is toxic and does have it's own disposal problems. It also will kill everything where it leaks. Dogs like it, and it kills them. Proply glycol anti-freeze has much less disposal problems but it is expensive. I believe that methanol based washer fluids should be avoided.

FYI:<br>Just purchased the Tech manual for my 10 year old 855. JD sells them as engine and tractor. I bought tractor. This manual covers 655,755,855,955,756,856 models.<br>It seems fairly good for the price of $70<br>it's about 1 1/2" thick , has 5 or so fold out pages.<br>I need it to change the Hydostatic pump shaft.<br>Mine has the old bolt and washer, which broke. The newer models have a threaded shaft which is an available as Hydrostatic Driveshaft kit # AM118962<br>If anyone needs some specifications write and I will reply.

Good luck with the dealer. Actually, I'm more book learned that experienced around diesels--as I sometimes demonstrate. I'd rather be able to just say: Well, I've seen that many times,' but I can't. By the same token, I'd just as soon my Ford 1710 doesn't give me much reason to gain first hand experience. I do study on tractors quite a bit, and do have some professional experience with gas engines, but I really haven't been around diesels much. My repair manual, and this Board in particular, are my best book learning aids. Fortunately, my tractor has been a real piker as a learning aid.

A little research usually can come up with a cross-reference to NAPA filters for the engine and hydraulic filters. However, they aren't necessarily factory equivalents, and there may be some risk in their use. For oils, I use an AGCO multi-season hydraulic (similar to NH F200) in my Ford. I may switch to Shell engine oil this summer, but I stick with a NH 0W-30 for winter. I stay with NH filters because I don't put enough hours on the tractor for filters to be a significant cost, and I'd just as soon avoid the factory equivalent issue. I just order the parts and a courier delivers them. Oils are another matter. They can't be couriered, so I've identified substitutes that are more locally available.

My new 4400 JD is being delivered today. I traded my 4600 for the 4400 with 430 loader and 72" midmount mower. I ordered the tractor to make sure I got all of the updates and that it hadn't been sitting on the dealers lot for a year. I ordered the tractor with turf tires, folding ROPS, block heater, 55 amp alternator, 3rd hydraulic valve and telescoping draft links. I really liked the 4600 and the smooth running four cylinder engine. I decided to go back to the smaller tractor (I had a 4300 prior to the 4600). For my property which includes nearly 2000 trees the smaller tractor is a bit handier. Some of my fellow compact tractor message board members may have noticed that I have been critical of John Deere and you may be wondering why I bought another. Let me explain. I was critical of the turf tearing MFWD axle until the problem was resolved. I was disappointed that Deere took so long to ackowlege a problem with the axle but the new axle works great. I also have been critical of Deere with respect to some of the creature comfort issues especially when compare to the Boomer line from NewHolland. Now that Deere has the telescoping draft links for the three point a major point has been resolved. I still don't like the cheesy third hydraulic control valve lever that is mounted in the fender. The tractor could use a swivel seat and telescoping steering wheel. The MFWD control lever should be moved as well. I was extremely close to a deal on a TC33D NewHolland. That is an excellent tractor. But what swayed me to the Deere was the implement attaching system and the hydro control. I frequently remove my mower for cleaning and blade sharpening and I thought Deere's design was a little better. I also thought the time to attach and detach the loader was less on the Deere. But perhaps the biggest issue for me was the foot operated hydro control and the inability to use the turning brakes. I just like the individual pedals on the right and the turning brakes on the left. I like the rear discharge mower option on the NewHolland. In the end it was a close call and I'm sure I would have been happy with the TC33D. Supposedly Deere is going to address the creature comfort issues when the rumored 4000 ten series is released. Deere better address those issues because I wouldn't rule out a future Boomer if the hydro control is changed.

The 1720 is probably the most troublefree Ford/NH compact tractor to date. THe 7108 model loader probably indicates a tractor over 4 years old, as the 7308 was introduced about then. No bother, the 7108 is a better loader. White grille and engine side panels would verify a similar age, at least. They run 23 PTO HP, and will run a 5' squealer or similar R/C in most conditions. The dealership where I work has just this week sold the last 2 1720's in inventory with 7308 loaders in the $16K range. The Synchro Shuttle Shift (SSS on the side) has live PTO and a 12X12 transmission. Discount the 12X4 tranny, as it also has transmission driven PTO. Heavily discount 2wd. Price will run according to your location and its condition, but it may bring a premium if it's cherry.

Mike I have the TC35D with the L.P. RD257200 I finish mow a 2acre yard a 1 1/2 acre Yard and a 5 acre field absolutely love the 3pt. mower I like the fact that I can trim with it by backing into places you normaly would need to push mow. any direct questions you have go ahead and e-mail me good luck
