Well said Ben. Here in WI Pine is not used much for wood burning. We burn hardwoods such as Oak,and Hickory. Believe me, I hate anything going to waste, especially enough heat to heat a small town.

I purchased a TC25D last week. The TC25D w/ R4's was $14,000 (no s/s). The NH 7308 Loader was $3300. I don't know about a 60 inch mower but the 72" Woods that I purchased was $1700. Hope that this will help.

I have a JD 4300 year 2000 that has original battery. I weeps or leaks out the vents and or caps. I called the local JD dealer. He could only warranty the battery and replace it with an identical replacement. I went to a local parts store and ordered a Delco-Freedom battery. The two I have in my diesel truck don't leak so one should work well in a JD tractor. Jim in Middleton, Id.

MC, Todd makes some good points. I'd also suggest that you look at the possibility of renting certain implements, f'r instance you might find that renting a tiller would be much more cost effective, especially if you only till your garden once a spring. It SEEMS that rentals in my area are pretty reasonable, but of course it might be different where you live. Some dealers rent all the implements they carry, some only rent certain ones, and some dealers don't - look around!!! And as Bird pointed out earlier, good used implements are definitely worth considering - they can be found at some good savings, if you're willing to look for them. Dave Wells

David G, my dealer said he sold Bush Hog brand rotary mowers with the JD 4100, although I bought a 3PH flail mower/shredder instead. It weighs about 650 lbs and mows, cuts and shreds weeds and branches easily--so I can't see why a 4100 couldn't handle a rotary mower. Best of luck.

Thanks, Jeff. I did read the archives. Sounds like a heck of a tool. Also found a picture on a For Sale board, mean looking sucker! I suspect it might be a bit more than my JD750 wants to bite off. Out of my price range anytime soon anyway. Nice to know it's out there, tho. Thanks again.

A auto parts store can get filters for tractors the next day if they don't have them in stock. Were I live the NAPA store is alittle more than my JD parts man, go figure!

Did you get a Steinway?? My daughter's birthday is in 2 days, and my father keeps trying to get her to say "grampy" (she'll be 1 on March 1). I keep trying to get her to say "Steinway Grampy". If that's the first thing she ever says to him, I think this may actually work!

I recently installed the NH block heater in my TC 25D. What a difference that makes in starting the tractor! I would highly recommend the $17 investment. Does anyone know why they changed the shade of blue?

I have a John Deere 4400 with approxmately 360 pounds of wheel weights on the back and 240 pounds plus on the front,and the R-4 tires are great if you like to move approxmately 3"to 4" of snow with a back blade and sit in 4wd with the differential lock pressed down and not move more than 2 ft on a slight incline get the R-4 or if you have to get down in the woods on a little bit of clay and spin your tires and watch the lugs immediately load up with mud and not hardly scratch the surface stay with the R-4s(all surface traction and no deep bite),but if you want something really aggresive and know you have the best traction you can possibly get (the next step up being chains) get the R-1s.The R-4s pull good on dry soil and do offer more width and stability,but if you want to get the most aggressive tread you can possibly get on rubber do not fool around with the light weight stuff and want serious traction go with the R-1 tires where nothing less will do.

Murf, that sure sounds familiar. I used to have a friend (now deceased) with whom I worked on many successful projects. But every time we screwed up, he blamed it on "Adolph" (Coors) and was probably right, too. LOL

JeffM, good choice. I was at my cousin's place when the salesman delivered his new TC29D and Bush Hog rotary cutter, and even though it's rated as a light duty cutter, that salesman promptly demonstrated it by running right into the heavy brush and woods, chopping little trees as big as 3" diameter. I actually thought that young salesman was going to break it before my cousin got a chance to use it, but after he left, I inspected it; top and bottom, and didn't find any damage.

However you dig your pond, I would suggest compacting it with a sheepsfoot roller when you are finished digging. It compacts it so much better than a dozer. This is from my experience. I just built a 1 acre pond in southern Indiana. Check out link included. It is very helpful.

yanmar model numbers tell a lot about the tractor: the first 2 numbers are the pto horsepower, since everywhere but america they don't bother with engine hp, that translates to 26 pto hp for you. The second 2 numbers show the generation and transmission. the 10 on your 2610 means it is a second generation of their thousand series, and therefore has the "powershift" sychro transmission. the presence of a D at the end means mfwd. a B would mean the second version of the same generation. if they could have only worked the production year in there... incidently, the 2610 was built from 79 to 81.

Hello Scott, I too took delivery of a tc35d r4s and the 16LA last week. I paid 18,875 here in NC and that was with the tires loaded and a front brush guard installed. I've used it to pull up a couple of 6" stumps just to compare to my b2400. It's been too wet here to get it out much. As far as digging holes, I've dug several holes with the b2400hsd I used to have. We had a 3/4ac pond dug-out a few years ago and I wasn't satisfied with how part of the bottom was contoured so I took my b2400 down into the dry hole and dug out a ~10'x10' hole to about 6' deep in about 2 hours and that included taking the dirt out of the pond to another location. The key I found is making it so that you can back ouot of the hole once you've loaded the bucket. This means not making the initial grade too steep. You can alway's come back and dig that out later. I'd say my slope was ~30deg so I started out diging before the 10' area I wanted dug out.
Another time I dug out a gum tree and went down 4' just in a matter of 3-4'. Much steeper but I wasn't taking out as big of loads of dirt on this project.
A toothbar would really have helped.
I would think I could dig to China with this tc35 now!

Thanks to all who shared their knowledge on this thread. I've decided to get a simple, but relatively heavy, box scraper: Bush Hog BX-650 which is 65" wide, weighs 510 lbs with fixed rear blade and 3-position scarifiers with replaceable teeth. Seems to be a decent price at $500. I'm also getting a landscape rake: Woods LR-107 with gauge wheels. I liked the fact that the tines in the Woods (and the Landpride) go through a box beam member before being secured. The gauge wheels are very sturdy looking, but expensive - $400 additional on top of $750 for the rake. I decided to pay more and get the Woods rake because I expect I will use it often in the years to come and it seemed to be high quality.
