Seals aren't too tough to find, the biggest hassle is getting at it, the steering box needs to come out to replace the seal.

Sometimes if it's just wear on the shaft and the seal is ok, just not able to brige the gap, you can DYI a repair that works k. We do it all the time on the older Ford tractors we have.

If you want to tackle it yourself theres a few vendors online who sell shop manuals, parts should be easy to get your hands on.

The shims would be in the diverter valve block. Apparently the relief valve will vary some depending on tractor serial number.

Bob, did you ever get any info on your Shibaura lift problem? I've got an SD 1803 with lift problems, and it has the electronic control system, with the joystick, knobs, solenoids and all. Did you determine what the voltage was going to the solenoids? They seem to be AC, not DC, solenoids, and I've got about 30 VAC coming into the control unit, but nothing coming out. I'm considering a bypass of the electronics, as yours seems to have, just to get basic functioning. Don't think I'll ever find a replacement control unit, and the tractor's not much good without a functioning lift.

I've been all through my lift system, including new fluid, new piston seal, cleaning of solenoids and control valve body, cleaning of pump screen. I'm getting fluid to the lift, but controls are doing nothing.

If I can help you in any way with what I've learned, please let me know. I know your post is old, but I'm trying everything at this point.

I am needing assistance with my Shibaura SD1803, which has an electronic lift control.

Symptom is the lift won't come up, which came on gradually. I have been through the system, from cleaning the hydro pump filter, to checking that I am getting fluid at the lift housing, to fresh trans/hydraulic fluid, to new seal on the piston, to cleaning the solenoids (2) and control body, to checking continuity and and voltages.

I have got 12-14 VDC and 30 VAC at the control box, which is a water proof unit on the right of the seat that has a 3-position joystick, potentiometer, 3-position switch, and a knob that turns infinitely in either direction.

The solenoids seem to be the type that run on A/C current, as they each have only 1 color on the leads, indicating that they can be connected either way. I have no idea what voltage is appropriate, although I guess it may be near the 30 VAC I am measuring at input. I am measuring very low voltages to those leads with the tractor running. Joystick position doesn't seem to be affecting voltage.

The control box is quite intimidating. A black box inside says [b]Control Unit, Model PWM-02[/b] and the brand IHI Ishikawajima-Harima. The circuit board inside was covered with a white plastic liquid that hardened to protect the components, making tracing the 20 or so wires very difficult. I'm pretty sure my problem lies in that box, but even with a bit of electronic experience, I am at a loss to try and analyze what's going on.

I would love to be able to replace the control box and harness. Otherwise, I would just like to bypass all the draft and position controls and just get the basic lift working with a switch of some kind. But I need to know what the solenoids require so I do not fry a coil. Any ideas?

We have two 4500 compact tractors that have the same trouble. When out on the road using C3 or4 around 1500-2000 RPM between fields I can hear a chatter coming from underneath and cant tell from what area. I first thought that it was coming from the DIFF but now it sounds like the front area? I don't hear it while in the field when the RPM is at 2000-3000 but running in a lower speed B-3 or 4. Any one have an idea?

Not really a grass expert, but if you are as much of a procrastinator as you say Fatguy, I would throw starter fertilizer down as it seems you skipped the soil test and you might as well help the root system while you are at it if you are at it :-(

But turkey day is a great time to be doing it!

Clay soil will not spread properly, you probably need to get a custom mix from suplier that can mix some sand into the soli mix. Otherwise the clay will not spread to level anything and just be a sticky mess.

Could be glow plugs or it could be low compression. The engine does need glow plugs to start. IIf you are willing to repair the tractor, it is a bargain. for this size 4wd tractor with a loader. I can supply glow plugs, hydraulic pump & parts to rebuild..

I tried to get the cap no go. But I could get a cap if I bought the Gas Tank Assembly. :-)

Thought I would just screw the new cap from the new tank and screw it on the old tank.

Nope new cap only fits new tank.

Installed new tank with new hoses and new tank filter it came with.

Filled her up with gas.

Hmmm running good for about 20 minutes then it started to bogg again. Lossened the cap and it cranked up to speed. Also noticed if I tilt it on my back so the cap side is elevated that helps it speed up.

So sadly I think I am no where on this.

Should I go one more step and get a new carbureter, but I just do not see how it could run great, then not , then tilt or lossen cap to run great again.

Maybe saying she wants to go equipment heaven :-(
