If it's the drive clutch (on the engine) that isn't opening up enough, your probably right that it needs attention. Be advised, when I went to rebuild the driven clutch on our diesel 6x4 it absolutely would not come off in one piece. I literally had to cut it into pieces to get it off. So there was no question of a rebuild. I rebuilt the drive clutch and installed a new driven clutch and all has been good. I really like the snowmobilers technique for primary clutch removal--that is to lay the engine on its side, fill the clutch retaining bolt cavity with water, and then thread in a bolt with teflon tape on it into the flywheel(clutch) removal tool threads. Then you're using hydraulic pressure to remove the clutch. Of course it's not so easy to turn a gator of mule on it's side, but it might be worth it. You might try this guy http://thegatorguy.net/

I have a Satoh Beaver III with 900 hours.<br>
My transmission is solidly locked in high gear. The lever does not move or budge in any way.<br>
I've tried rocking in reverse or other gears. Still does not go into low gear.<br>
Can anyone help?

I would suggest clean all 4 ends of the main battery terminals. Most people do not check the where the ground connects to the tractor, or where the positive connects to the starter.
On the starter solenoid there should be 2 wires connecting. On big from the positive on the battery, one small one from the starter circuit. Clip a test light to the small wire with other end to ground. Turn the key to start (or start button or switch.) If you do not get light then there is an electrical problem from the switch to the starter.
Testing: Put the trans in neutral. No really make dog gone sure is in neutral. Connect remote start switch from any parts store, one wire to the small, other to the battery positive. If you press remote start and the tractor turns over, then the connections to the battery and ground are OK.

I would think a metal replacement would be fine. I also think you may be pushing compression into the coolant cavity thru either a blown head gasket or a cracked head. White smoke is not good either inside or outside the motor.

so I'm still jumping the solenoid on the 1914, after looking at the starter for removal ,it looks like I have to remove the front dash to get to the bolts ? Is this true ? Or should I be able to remove it from the front of the starter ? Any wisdom would be very helpful

Usually a sudden no crank situation is caused by a safety switch of some type.

Seat switch came loose or wring bad, clutch / brake switch, PTO engaged, etc., etc.

Sounds like you are on the right track about jacking it up to check the tires, could have bulges and or flat spots on both which can give you quite a shake :-(

I had the same problem but when I replaced the starter it cranked it over twice as fast.
It started fine but now I'm having the same problem as you'll are talking about. I now have issue with glow plug timer. I think it is fried from cycling it through 3 cycles before energizing the starter. Fuses are ok.

I sold the 48 backhoe to a friend to install on a 4700. So he has the plates and frame to install the 48 backhoe on a small frame 4300 or 4400 tractor. I called him last night and he is willing to sell them. His name is John and his phone # is 502-921-3576. John is an engineer and is very knowledgeable on John Deere and can answer any question you might have on the installation of the 48 on your small frame 4300. By the way the 48 Backhoe is a great backhoe.

I'm an engineer at a Machine shop, so lots of equipment is available far beyond your home workshop.

I added the Murf pipe to my Polaris Sportsman quad a number of years ago. Thanks Murf!!!! It is a great improvement over a normal blade edge. However, you can't beat Mother Nature.

First I removed the blade edge. We made a replacement flat stock piece and copied the hole pattern, complete with square holes. We cut a slit in the pipe of the same width as the flat bar for the same length as the plow's width. We did this with a waterjet cutting machine. We turned down the water pressure and cut out a styrofoam chunk to fit in the pipe bore. This diffuses the water stream so it doesn't cut thru both sides. We lightly assembled the flat stock and pipe and tack welded it while in place. Afterward we removed the sub assembly and finished welding it. Alternating the welds front to back and moved slowly controlling heat. It's crucial, otherwise the flat piece bows from heat. We welded half ball end caps to the ends. That way it doesn't "dig in" when turning while plowing. When I say we, it was the guys in the shop doing all the work. It is a professional looking modification with semi-gloss paint.

The problem is weather in Michigan. We get wet snow frequently and often before a good, hard frost. The snow then insulates the driveway and it doesn't freeze hard all winter. As you push the snow, it's weight picks up stones along the way even with a curved pipe. If the quad spins at all and you go over the previously plowed area, some stones are stuck in the snow.

I plow my daughter's driveway out in the country. She lives on the old farm homestead with open fields surrounding her for 360 degrees. Open fields are flat for atleast 1 mile in all directions. Lots of snow drifts! I also put down too small of a stone mix which picks up easily.

Her double driveway is a "U" shape with one side longer than the other. The main driveway is about 100 yards long, the utility driveway is about 200 yards long and the section joining them next to the road is another 50 yards.

She frequently gets a snow drift about 3 feet deep that goes for about 25 yards and tapers off from there for another 25 to 50 yards. Drifts are a hard dense snowpack. The county snowplow then goes thru and puts a 3 foot pile the length of the 50 foot bottom section. This is hardpack snow and ice.

The utility driveway is somewhat protected with a line of trees, but the going is deep and long.

The quad is a backup for the tractor with FEL. The third line of action is a large walk behind snowblower.

I mostly use the tractor with bucket as Murf described in another post. I have a bucket level indicator that is a 1/4" rod moving inside of a pipe. I used a paint pen and put a painted ring around the rod where the bucket is level. Like Murf said. Tilt the bucket so the front edge is about 1 inch" from digging in. The heel of the bucket makes contact.

It drifts allot at my daughter's place, so I push it back quite a ways allowing for snow to pile up. The utility drive drifts with snow rapidly. Sometimes in a couple of hours. I've had snow piles 13 feet high at times. That is the height of FEL reach.

In the Spring I use a small Stihl tiller that has removable tines and put on rubber flappers. It's kinda like a power broom without brushes but with flaps. This is used to thatch the stones out of the grass.

The rear blade doesn't work good at all. The depth of snow and blade curvature gives too much down draft. I've bent the mushroom shaped shoes from the pressure. You have to plow backwards which isn't easy nor comfortable. If you attempt to plow forward, you can't drive in 3 feet of snow. The tractor weight compresses the stones into the snow.

I can remove the pipe section with a few bolts when using the standard cutting edge on dirt and stone. It is very sturdy.

Our water jets can cut steel up to 8" thick for a length of 10 feet. We can cut steel, ceramics, granite and Corean with intricate shapes and lots more.

It sounds like you're sucking air instead of fuel out of the tank.

Given the weather and it ran ok in warmer area, start with some PS Rescue 911 or other quality additive. It's entirely possible it's full of low quality diesel fuel, or kerosene, and it's just gelled / waxed up and choking off the supply line.

Hey Murf, been meaning to ask for about 15 years (maybe longer now that I look at the calendar).

Just how do you cut a straight slot in a round pipe with common garage tools?

And then do you weld it in place? Or is there some sort of secret Canadian attachment protocol? And no hurry.... its not going to snow 'till Saturday.

I notice the parts manual shows two different part numbers for the gear in question. Are you sure you ordered the correct one? I am not computer savvy enough to post the page but the two part numbers are 194340-25530 (gear 14/14,reverse) and 194200-25530 (gear 13/18, reverse).

All I can say is that I had a shorted glow plug and that took out a fuse located under the hood. If not that, start tracing power supply from ignition switch to the battery to see where you lose it. Good luck

Almost no measurable compression. Pulled pistons and wear outside tolerance on 2 of 3 cylinders. Rings broken on No. 3. Finishing tearing it down for bore/resleeve (It has sleeves which means it has been machined before).

well I have started my 955 several times now and it appears the starting problem may be solved. Thanks.
However, I still have a problem with the belly mower as it will not start every time I throw the lever. It appears there is a magnetic connection that pulls a switch and starts the mower. It will usually start the first time when the mower is cold. However, once the unit gets hot and you shut off the mower it usually will not start again. has anyone else ever had this problem and what is the fix?
