There are specialty products out there you can get at auto parts stores to absorb oil spills. But I have used kitty litter with success got a big bag at Sams for very cheap for this purpose also use it to get rid of old latex paint....

I just came across this,sorry so late. I've got '54 Jubilee that hasn't been altered. Pulling down increases the rpm and up decreases. Larry.

Same thing happened to me, I lost reverse but still had forward, then discovered that one mounting bolt was missing and the other acting like a pivot. Easy fix, thankfully. Now my hydraulic filter (not the HST filter) just burst today and dumped a lot of oil on the ground. I understand that in cold temps (-25C today) these filters are prone to bursting.

Try soaking it in a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid (ATF). I've found this to be far superior to absolutely any other penetrating oil sold anywhere at any price.

Rich, your rule may be ok when the terrain is flat and if you are in an enclosed cab tractor. What would happen if you are strapped in, and the open cab tractor rolls onto a tree stump , a boulder or other hard object? Also your head may strike the ground even if the ground is flat. Crash Helmets required?
Personally I just feel safer being able to jump free. I certainly will be more careful around trees in the future and make sure the Rops is set at an angle rather than straight up as it was on this occasion.

I too helped out a friend with the same problem. Why did I overlook the battery terminal problem? The top post connection on the negative side had a clamp that held the cable in place. Underneath the clamp, the connection was rusted, where you couldn't see it. It looked good from the top. Since we cleaned the battery post, I thought we had a good connection, even though they didn't look bad. When I tried the remote starter suggestion, it didn't even roll. I then checked the battery ground by removing it and thoroughly inspecting. After cleaning the connection, it fired up.

The summer fuel, a lack of kerosene and additives aside, wouldn't cause black smoke.

The [u]only thing[/u] that can cause black smoke is a very rich fuel mixture, so rich that the fuel can't even fully burn.

Untreated fuel would cause an overly lean mixture, not overly rich.

When setting the lift cylinder assembly back on transmission housing, be sure to align the PTO speed lever with shift mechanism ! I used a chain hoist to lower while aligning the lever.

As a general rule of thumb we charge based on a formula of 2.5 times the base labour rate, plus machine costs (capital plus consumables plus a profit margin of about 20% gross).

In our case we have a pretty good handle on both of those machine costs gained from so many years of doing it.

For a 40hp 4WD class machine we are currently running about $10/ hr. in capital costs and about the same in consumables, so roughly $20 / hr. for the machine itself plus about $8 / hr. in gross profit. This doesn't include mob. / demob. costs to get to the site and back, that's a flat-rate per job.

Then as far as labour if you're paying an operator $20 / hr. you need to bill it out at $50 / hr.

That comes out to about $78 / hr. as a baseline, but varies based on the job (easy work or hard) and the customer (public, private, long-time, one off job, etc.) and also our own workload (busy, quieter, local, long distance).

BTW, we also aim for a minimum of 1 acre per hour for that size tractor with a 5' bush hog, 2 ac. / hr. on flat level smooth ground, 1/2 ac. / hr. on the tough stuff.

I have a 1999 John Deere 4600 Hydrostatic model which has developed a fault in reverse only. Forward is fine but whenever I use the reverse pedal it makes a horrible grinding noise and no performance. Have checked the oil and all the hydro linkages and they are fine.<br>
Have split the tractor now and cannot find any gears within the transmission that are worn and everything looks fine.<br>
Oil condition is like new <br>
1800 hours on clock.<br>

Hi can someone help, I have shibuara p17 stiger 3 cylinder. My 3 point linkage has stuck to up position. But I don't have any power to joy stick that controls the hydraulics , but have power to head lights. Is there any hidden fuses as I've searched all over. The only thing I can find is a 3v battery which is on the chip board under the control panel which has been molded in ????? Thanks Matt

There is 2 wires hooked up to the preheater, a heavy gauge and lighter gauge wire. When you push the button on the dash the heavier gauge wire should have power on it. Then once the starter encages the other wire will have power too which allows diesel to drip down on the hot coil. If the light doesn't light up in the dash anymore the element maybe burned out or you have a something else wrong. Check it for power 1st at the preheater then go from there. It its at fault it comes off easy with a couple bolts. Also the little orfice in the preheater can get plugged, just take it off and blow some compressed air through it. <br>
