I do several gravel drives and have found two things that help. I try to run the the skid shoes of the front blade down the crown of the road and this seems to minimize the gravel movement. I finish using the back blade backwards and this will clean it up nicely. Backwards works as well on pavement since the blade will run up over irregularities in the pavement and not cut the pavement. .

Bill is right. This isn't the place to come to be talked out of a tractor. I think we have all been in this position at some time or other, whether to get a big lawn tractor or a small compact? If you only have a couple of acres to mow it's tough to justify the cost of a small compact so it comes down to what you "want" and not what you "need". If you get a large garden tractor and start adding on options and impliments the cost builds up pretty fast to be pretty close to a compact and the compact is a far better machine and because of the size of implements that it can handle, it will cut your mowing time. It's just a lot more versatile and robust although a friend just got a subcompact, a Kubota BX series, and loves it. I'm not sure what the JD or NH equivalents are but it looks like a pretty neat little machine and it seems to fit between the L&G tractors and the compacts. Check them out.

Can any one tell me how to tell if the turbo on my Jophn Deere 1050 loader tractor is working? It is about 12 years old. I bought used about 3 years ago. It seems to run fine but I can't tell if the turbo is actually working. I have opened the turbo intake and can see the turbine freely turns but I don't hear a high pitched whine under load or under any condition. Should i be able to year the turbo working. The tractor seems to have plenty of power but i can load it down. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

I just bought an L3010 4wd HST today with a 5' heavy duty box scraper. The price with tradein of 1980 model b7100 with 1500 hours was 13,800. Was this price a good deal? Or did I get taken

In the course of our work we are constantly going up or down hills. Experience has taught us that if you start up a hill (or out across questionable ground) in 2wd you will be able to tell when the going gets bad before the tractor starts to spin it's wheels, then 4wd will get you out. If you get stuck in 4wd, you're really stuck. But yes I also agree, if the operator is getting nervous, STOP. Best of luck.

I will probably start a battle here but I have learned from multiple smaller tractors and accessories to never buy a Briggs and Stratton engine (and I am from Milwaukee where they are made). I almost always buy a Honda engine now. My brother bought a smaller John Deere lawn tractor and made sure it had a Kawasaki engine. They cost a bit more but all of my Honda engines start first pull and never cause problems. I have junked two two relatively new lawn care products recently due to Briggs engine failure which repairing would have cost more than the whole unit. I was lucky to get a two year life span. My dealer knew immediately what I was talking about with the Kawasaki engine.

We have a really high-tech solution...the Handyman's Secret Weapon... DUCT TAPE!! A little bit of this stuff around the end of the offending pin will keep it in place during even the longest mowing job over the roughest land. Best of luck.

Bird - thank's for the words of wisdom relating to mower deflectors. I don't really use my 513 that much, so hopefully I can get at least a year or 2 out of a rubber rear deflector. I'd make a chain one, but don't think I have the proper tools (no bolt cutter or welder).

I am sorry that I did not clarify my initial post. Since this topic area is for articulated tractors, I assumed that you knew that my post asking for a wish list would be as well.

What I'm looking for is a wish list for your articulated tractor in hopes that the manufacturer's reps who read these posts, will take some of the ideas and maybe incorporate them into their design. In fact, I plane to take the list and forward it to Steiner and Venture Products.

I have been working her hard up and down the hills of NY. Bushhogged about 10 acres already and she handles a 5 foot heavy duty bushhog just fine with a little weight(300) pounds on the front. A few minor things, had to remove pto shaft underneath that runs the front pto and lube because it popped off twice now its ok and the linkage for the forward and reverse shuttle can apart. Will Keep you updated.Kevin

Peter, sorry I have been out of it for a while to much work not enough fun time. Sitting here thinking about your question, I can't honestly remember if you can move the boom and bucket at the same time. I believe you can, but I will verify it this weekend. I have the loader off right now but will need to put it on again this weekend. Now the "quickly" question I can answer, both the Deere and the Kubota are faster at loader activities then the NH 35Ds. I remember going through the specs of comparable Deere's(4400) and Kubota(34XX) and both were faster in the print. However, IMHO experience is more important when using a loader then a few seconds in cycle times. The better you become at using the loader the faster the work will be and the less important a few seconds of cycle time are. I have seen people waste more time because they are not using one correctly, including myself at times ;)

Forgot to say that I am mowing with 8500# counting the mower. Weight is not the problem, it is the size of the tires to spread that weight out. That is why turfs are so clean on really nice turf. My turf wouldn't know the difference whether I had turfs or Ag's.

Almost. I have had the stabalizers drop to the ground when the backhoe was stored off of the tractor. Someone posted here that it was due to plastic seals(?) that do not hold as well as machined brass. I have had the bucket/boom drop on me also. Turned out it was leaking fluid. Must be a loose connection or something - it is in being fixed right now.

However, I gather that the regulations have not been set and they will need to go through a public comments period prior to issuing regulations. If you are concerned, perhaps you can attend a public comment session.
