Here in Wasco County, Oregon, our planning department allows two alternatives to the usual gravel filled trenches. One of them is from a local company that uses perforated plastic pipe surrounded by scraps of plastic foam all in a loose mesh bag. The other is a plastic arch type of chamber system that is claimed to allow a smaller drain field than is required for the traditional gravel filled trenches. I don't yet know the cost of either of these systems compared to gravel, but hope to soon follow up on the chamber type system.

I've got a NH TC29 that just rounded 50 hours. I was faced with the same situation as you--no trailer and a dealer that's over an hour away. A quick read of the warranty raised no trouble flags. I spent a couple of hours this weekend on the service. Used NH parts and made sure to tuck away the receipts in case the service/parts were ever questioned. I'd imagine your 790 requires about the same service--change oil and oil filter, change hydro filter, change fuel filter, lube, etc. If you are comfortable changing oil, it isn't much of a big deal. My only problem was no bleeding the fuel system enough after I changed the fuel filter. Once the tractor died and wouldn't restart, I had to bleed again. Although I was worried at the time, I was able to get it fired up and running on my second bleed attempt.

I had a LITTLE trouble with one I had brorrowed, but
underneath the tractor, there is a zerk fitting on th hst pedal shaft.
A couple of shots of Amsoil syn grease & it was fine.

I have the skid shoes and a light duty blade for snow. I tried them once and decided that I didn't need them. Maybe with a HD blade it might tear up the drive. I you're interested, e-mail me and maybe we can make a deal. They are pretty universal and just use the cutting edge bolts. The link from ssb tractor where I bought them from is below.

Looking for a new tractoe
to mostly mow with, & do loader work. Borrowed a 25D wit hSS the other day, & was pretty inpressed. Only mow about 2-3 ac's so I prob don't NEED one, but boy their nice. anyone help with some advice? or talk me out of it?<br>

An after-market seat assembly that would rotate 20 degrees or so in order to take the strain off the neck from looking backwards.

I had the same problem with my 4300 and the 60" deck. I was able to drill a 1/8" hole through the j-pin although I destroyed 3 or 4 bits in the process. I have not had the same problem with the 72" mower on my 4600.

I would have to agree with you,it happned to me one evening on my 4400,and then I started thinking about the safety switch under the seat,I had the same problem with my daughter driving are lawn tractor,she couldnt always keep the seat down and it would cut out.

I have a JD 48 backhoe that when I am using it on uneven ground I level the tractor with the stabilizers. Within in a few minutes the wheels have settled to the ground. When doing loader work with the backhoe mounted I have to watch to make sure the boom does not settle enough for the bucket to drag the ground. When I put backhoe in the parking position & remove it from the tractor the stabilizers will settle about half way to the ground & the buck will curl up. Has any one else had this happen? Chris

Doug, I do the vast majority of my mowing (and other work) in 2WD, but when mowing on slopes I use the 4WD. But if a slope is steep enough for the possibility of what you mentioned; the front end kicking up and going over in 4WD, I'll be going up it backwards anyway instead of forward.

I have to agree with Jim on this one.
I also looked at a 4300 for my 2 acre yard.. This would have been a mistake to say the least, for many reasons. We ended up with a 4100 and I am for the most part...very pleased. IMO, No other tractor in its class comes close in terms of "ease of use" or features. For example, a 10-12 year old kid could install/remove the loader or belly mower...without tools, or an instruction manual.. Plus, I can remove the bucket (no tools) in about 20 seconds, 10 of which is used in mounting and dismounting the seat. This has come in super handy when you don't want to remove the loader, need a little extra front end weight to offset the rear yet have good visual of what is in front of you. (mowing, etc) A few times I've needed to remove the bucket to fit into a tight spot while pulling out trees. Now for the "not so hot" stuff. Kubota has a stronger hydro, but lousey controls. (They should put the L series pedel on the B's) Engine also "seems" stronger, and definitely smoother running. Capacities on Kub are a little higher. But most of all, Kubota offers 2 or 3 motors in one platform ex:(2710-2910) are in the same frame. If you ask me what I would buy next time.....Probably a NH..

Go with laminate and get the tractor!hahahahhhha Seriously look at the Cubs. They are great machines and much tougher than some of the green and orange machines. Green and orange are great machines, but my money goes to the yellow and white.

I've had a 7195 Cub, with FIL, for 3 years and it's been a mule that won't quit!

Ford used Shibaura engine in many of their mid-80's compacts. A New Holland dealer should be able to tell if you've got one of their engines. If so, then a New Holland could supply parts and service assistance. A Ford repair manual also would cover at least the engine.

The LA Times just reported that California will be requiring "diesel soot traps" on all diesel engines (see link below). Does anyone know more about this? Will they require some modification for small tractors? Thanks in advance.P.S. This link is only good for about 5 days, per the LA Times.

An articulated tractor is a unit that has a hinge point in the middle of the frame so that when turning, the tractor actuallys bends like a hinge on a door to tighten the turning radius. This is somewhat of the same effect as a four wheel steer tractor, but it creates a smaller turning radius by turning the front and rear tires. The tires on an articulated tractor do not turn like a regular tracotr. When I first drove one, I thought it would tear up my grass, but not so.

Thanks you G. for the clarification. I wanted to ask you to speak up, but I did not know if you wanted those on the board to know your real name. When I started this topic area, it was for the purpose allowing the users of ALL articulated tractors to share information about the features, strengths, and weaknesses of the units that they own. That a high level employee such as yourself takes the time to read and participate in this board encourages me that you at least are trying to keep your "finger on the pulse" of what the end users want in your tractors. Keep up the good work.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that in your area Mid to late August is the best time to seed. That's because the days are warm and the nights get heavy dews. Great stuff for seeds. if you start pushing the envelope into September it should be before 9/15. I have done the Early October thing and it has mixed results. Ideally seeding in late August will have you mowing the grass before winter (depending on the seed you pick and precipitation you get) which will help it get established better.<br><br>
About that field, if it is rough, you may well need to plough it, then let it set, cultivate it, disk it, then York Rake or better Harley Rake or Rock Hound the rocks out. I assume you want a finished appearance on it. You can seed it with any rotary type spreader. Make sure you hire someone to blow some straw on if it is a finish lawn you are after

Greetings, I myself have a 98 7275 with the cub loader and the woods hoe. Excellent machine, very easy to do service on.

when I purchased I went to 2 cub and Kub dealers and decided on the cub for the following:

1) faster cycle time when working, the cub uses a larger pump (2 of them in fact), when you are digging a 300ft water hookup, a 10sec cycle diff adds up into 15 or more minutes

2) ease of maint. The cub comes 'apart' up front in a few seconds and the filters and electical connections are easier to get at. If you take yours in for service, this aint a problem. I do my own service so this was ideal

3) ease of operation and the 'cab' The same size kub seemed kinda sparse and the controls on the cub were much easier to get at. Also, the dash layout of the cub makes it possible to install a temp and oil actual gauge (not just a temp needle) and an aux power supply.

I could mention price, but I got this setup for $6000 off of list for having 150 hrs on it. Both dealers seemed able and willing to move around the pricing on various package so who knows what the bottom line dollar amounts are.

Dont get me wrong, I like kubs, but on this size the cub was better
