SOB - I planted 6 acres of Orchard Grass & Timothy mix for horses in MD. The Timothy didn't do much, but the grass is fine, and I've been feeding it for 4 or so years. I rototilled the original after a treatment with Roundup, then planted and fertilized.(After a soil sample analysis) I still fertilize, and overseed each year. As stated above, I would not even think of buying a haybinder, rake and baler (even used) because of the cost. I've had a guy come in and cut, rake and bale (for about what I can buy it for!), but he's now balking at doing it at all. So, I'm either going to return it to grazing pasture, or include it in the farmer's lease with my other acerage. In short, it's a lot of trouble to get it cut, if that's what you intend. Good luck, though, in whatever you do with it.

Sorry guys, my SS NH is a bit heavier than the ones you are mentioning here, so I can imagine that it handles differently. Obviously if a SS tractor gets into soft stuff or whatever, the brake steer option is still there.

One nice thing about NH's traction management (4wd on demand, basically) is that it cuts out at extreme steering angles so as not to scuff in front as the tractor spins around in less than its own length on a complete turnaround.

The JD 4000's have their good points, but I'll meet you guys on a maneuvering course thru a bunch of tight turns any day. Even with my 6300 lb/13 ft machine (NH TN90F).

I have a JD 4400 and love it. I have not had any problems. I tried a TC33 before I bought the JD 4400. Two things I found that made a big difference are TC33D brakes are on the right side with the hydro control. To make sharp turns on a tractor I have always used the brake. You can't use the brake and press the hydro for forward at the same time on the TC33D. The JD 4400 has the brake on the left side and is no problem. Try pulling a load with both tractors. I think the JD is more powerful. Aside from these differenses I found. I think they are both great tractors. Also, I am not a JD diehard fan. I owned a Ford for many years.

I have a 2910 and 3010, If I could only have one it would be the 3010.
The 3010 is a lot smoother, much more power, maybe partly because of
the weight. The 3010 could drag the 2910 kicking and screeming all the
way back to the barn, backwards. As you might can tell I like the 3010
the best.
I would think the 4 cyl. 2910 would be smoother than the 3 cyl. 3010,it's
not by a long shot. The 2910 above 2000 RPMs will put my feet to sleep after
a couple of hours of mowing.
The hand cruise control on the 2910 gets in the way more than it does good.
The only thing going for the 2910 is it's size, and it's just handy. I always keep the loader on the 3010, and if I didn't need a loader I wouldn't need the
2910.
Did I mention I like the 3010 the best.

I was recalling that two of the sources I found very useful when I started to clear trees was our NY DEC. They have many pamphlets and free information and are there to keep the environment healthy and the people safe. The other was a book called "Professional Timber Falling" that I got from baileys. www.baileys.com

The Firestone site has lots of other useful tire info (inflation pressures, load ranges, anti-hop tips, etc.), but it seems with each revision to the site the useful info gets harder to find.

Can't help you with the tube/tubeless controversy. On my dealer's advice, I've had my Kubota tubeless rears filled with calcium chloride solution for 6 years with no problems so far.

While I was away my JD dealer was able to locate a used 54" front blade for me. Using it over the weekend I noticed that they hydraulic angle would tend to drift a few degrees as I was pushing some loose dirt around. When I lifted the blade and tried to push it by hand, I also noticed that (say) if the blade was at 20 degrees to the right, I could push it back (compressing the piston) to about 15 degrees before the hydraulics prevented me from moving it farther. The same is true when the blade is angled to the left (extending the piston). Occassionally when back grading the blade seemed to drift even more that 5 degrees or so from where I had set it before I angled it back into place.

Does any of this sound like normal functioning for this type of blade? If not, what could be the problem??

I have a 1996 7194 with 5' deck. The same machine as yours except mine is gear shift. Anyway, when I mow, the side screens and the front screens always become clogged. It takes me about an hour and a half to mow. When I'm done, the screens are completely clogged. However, my temperature gauge never reaches the red. It does move up a little by the time I'm done mowing, but not much. My bet would be that it's not your mower deck. It's probably something in the cooling system, the fan, or the gauge.

Jim H. your brackets and formatting might look like HTML to the system. Scot, try Arrow, link below. I priced the smallest set at $450 but you do have to do some welding but they are quick attach to the top bar and width adjustable. I would really like to hear from someone who owns a set of these.
