Just purchased a TC29D in NE Ohio ~ $14,400.00: which included a 914A Midmount mower - 60".

tc25 now or tc33 later

Chris, this is not a situation of "can or can't" it's more like "how much time do you have". A 25hp machine will certainly run a 6' bush-hog, but depending on how tall/thick the 'crop' is you may not be travelling very fast at all. We run 6' cutters on small machines all the time, but unless the grass is very short/dry travel speed is 3mph MAXIMUM. Check the blades are sharp and go slow. As for lifting, a higher tail-wheel setting and NO upper link, or a hydraulicaly adjustable tail wheel will allow you raise the deck straight up rather than tilting it on to the 3pth, a great thing with a small machine. Shelby, on mine the dipstick is right next to this filler cap. I am sure you would have seen it. Could you put a rod down this trans opening to guage your fill? If so I would be happy to give you some idea as to how long my guage rod is and how high up the full mark is. Let me know if this is of some use to you.

Being fairly new to the "compact" arena as well. We decided to buy a JD 4100 over the Kubota B series a year ago. We stayed away from NH due to dealer location. We studied each brand in question for months. Personally, I think both are excellent units and each has its own set of "better" features and functions. NH appears to have the most "convenient" and creature comfort stuff, JD's in the Middle and Kub has more of an industrial layout. Again, OMO. One thing I really like about Kubota is that they put different HP motors in basically the same platform. 2710-2910, B1700,B2100 & B2400, etc...
I would be nice to have the 4100 with a 26hp option.. Maybe call it the 4110??
Anyway, I think you did fine. Besides, you'll love how easy the loader comes on and off.

I too find this a interesting subject. I grew up around, and have always had at least one 4x4 around. Jeep's, trucks, ect.

The first thing we ever do is add a full cage on to the roll bar on open top vehicles like Jeep CJ5, Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, ect. We usually have done our own, or take them to a 4x4 shop to have it done.

I have not heard of lawsuits coming back on the owner or the shop who built the cage addition. In the case of many trucks, a complete cage is added inside the cab. The local shop that I deal with builds roll bars and cages all the time. Often they are building the complete system from scratch.

I am fine with my ROPS, but would not hesitate to work on it to fit my needs. I would however, advise the use of a certified welder.

I just took delivery yesterday on my TC33D. Immediately notice the range shift problem. The driver also had the problem taking it off the truck. It didn't happen all the time however. Thanks to you guys, now I know how to deal with it.

The tractor is real nice. Moved some very large Oak tree trunks (root and all) like they were toys. Used forks to lift longer logs. I am truly amazed at the power of these little monsters. But I guess for $27K they better be good.

Let me preface this by saying I have absolutely no first hand knowledge of the Chinese tractors. But everything I have ready on this and other forums is that you should avoid them, as they are not reliable, and service is hard come by.

Glad I bought a JD 970 instead of its 4000 series counterpart. 970 doesn't have any of your problems and especially didn't have to be assembled in a warehouse in Augusta. Good luck.

Yes Halsey, I have talked with Beverage Tractor. I have been told that their prices are a little high. I would like to get the best deal possible. Money is a hard thing to come by so I tend to look around some. If I have to I will buy from them. Need to consider the families needs as well though. Thanks for your post.

Ah, you have obviously run into the old "big enough" problem. I have a JD 4100 which is great for light work and easy to transport and easy on the turf and very maneuverable. However, when using a 5' tiller, it can do it but lacks the power to do it easily. I thought about going to one of the somewhat larger 4000 series but none would be big enough to handle a tree planter that I needed to use. So instead I am getting a Kubota L4310 in addition to the 4100. Of course it is too big to cut lawn easily and harder to transport but I obviously have the best of both worlds, if you can afford it. No matter what size you get, there are compromises. Bigger is not always better. I wanted to upgrade my Bobcat to handle larger implements but then I realized the weight was so great I would have to get a bigger trailer, bigger truck, commercial driver's license, etc.

You may need to mix sand with your seed to keep it from spreading to heavy. Works pretty good.

If it's not too late... you may want to consider buying the loader at the sametime as the tractor to save having to return it to the dealer later. As far as the D being worth the extra $. Yes! If later you added only half of the "Extras" you would pay more than you would for the D now. Some of the extras, sure you can live without, but... they sure do make Boomer life alot nicer. I love my 29D & don't know how I lived without it. Donald
