I'm looking to purchase either a Kubuta l3710 or l4310 OR New Holland 1930 or 2120. I need the high 30's to low 40's for the hp to run a snow blower for commercial snow removal. The price is not a priortiy but does have some effect on the purchase. Both dealers are very good both at sales and service. The problem is I need help in figuring out which tractor will work best for summer work consisting of clearing land (stump removal, feild stone walls, ditching, landscaping, and brush hog work) My main concern is the back hoe. It needs to be very strong and long lasting. I have not visually seen either hoe for the two tractors. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The 1210 may be a little small for a 5' rotary cutter, depending on what's being cut of course. I don't know the 1210, but Ford tended to space its models by about 3 engine hp. The 1310 is 19 engine HP (about 17 PTO), so the 1210 may be around 14 pto hp.

In terms of a loader, a New Holland dealer should be able to identify options.

The Ford 'teen' series compacts were made in the mid-80's. I guess that includes the 1210. Each 'teen' was dressed in 00, 10 or 20 models. There were 15 models for some. Most have been out of production for awhile, but New Holland seems to provide good support. Several of the '20' models remain in production. As a group they seem to be well regarded.

Guess that's why JD doesn't make or recommend a back hoe for their 4100 even though some owners use them without problems. Wonder if JD is being responsible, wants to avoid government-imposed standards or was worried about liability.

Anyway, maybe the whole thing shouldn't be placed on manufacturers. I don't think I'd want to pay the price for a tractor that was so over-designed that
it couldn't be damaged from any kind of irresponsible operation. I hope we all learn something about responsible operation, as well as good manufacturers, by reading these forums.

Of course, none of this says anything about Long Tractors. I've never seen one or know anything about them.

I am using a new 914A mid-mount deck. I searched the market to find a fabricated deck - most are stamped steel. After initial use, one of the stub shafts for the rear roller wheels broke free - it was just tack welded. I find no blame with NH. I deal with fabricators daily, and fabricated machinery in a shop can experience missed finished welds. I love my fabricated deck. It is something that can be easily repaired with standard welding units. I have experienced no scalping problems, but after having four different tractor systems and decks, all have the need to know your deck and its capabilities! Good luck, and "Boomer" to you!

Sorry to hear of your woes! I just spent 6 hours on my TC29D today mowing in the 80°F heat of Norheast Ohio. I researched the competition to find a fabricated mower deck. The last two tractors I had carried fabricated decks; not the stamped steel decks that are easily found everywhere (you know, the Greens, Reds, and orange ones). My TC29D carries a 914A midmount 60" mower deck. I could not be more thrilled with its performance. Don't settle for less than you deserve! These toys are the ULTIMATE expense! You bought into New Holland, now DEMAND them to perform! Your dealer can help!

We just bougt a 5ft. Bushhog Squealer rotary cutter with slip clutch for use on our JD790 (25 PTO HP). What an amazing tool. We have about 10 acres of scrappy pines and sweetgums ranging from 1 to 1 1/2" in diameter. It seems if the tractor can push it over, the bush hog will shread it. It definitely bogs down the engine at times and we probably could not do it with any less horsepower.

As I understand it, true core aeration is about a 4" deep plug of soil removed from the ground (and usually left laying about) in order to improve oxygen content, reduce soil density, increase water penetration and maybe some other things. In my limited experience I use the words plug and core interchangeably. Some homeowner models that you pull around just have a spike and I was told by a turf instructor that this just creates a hole with a zone of supercompacted soil around it therefore defeating the original intent of aerating. Now with that being said, I have a pull type that you fill with water and the teeth are shaped to make a plug. My clay soil usually allows 1/2" penetration when I do this before overseeding and these little pockets will germinate grass like magic. Now, if I really want to aerate something like a worn path, I'll put 5/8" spade bit in my 18v deWalt and drill away.....

Broadcast spreader for fertilizer; I had a mini disaster with a $300 Fleet Farm spreader with bulk 17/47% nitrogen/phosphorus fertilizer. I had the two agitators going(ie the PTO on) without the little doors open enough for the fertilizer to flow out. Heat built up and fused the fertilizer in the bottom of the coned shaped bin. I had to hand broadcast 700-800 lbs of fertilizer to get to the bottom of the bin and break up the neo-geological rock formation with a sledge hammer. The lower most agitator no longer turned and cost me $50 for creative welding to disassemble and fix.I'm not sure if the high phosphorus content predisupposed the fertilizer to fuse. At any rate, don't agitate without spreading. Emptying out by hand was a 3 hr job.

I know an MF180 is not quite a compact tractor, but someone may have experience with this.My dad has a MF180 that has a Gread Bend loader on it. The loader can barely lift anything. He wants to start by replacing the hydraulic filter. Unfortunately the service manual he has does not go into great detail about replacing the filter. It looks like he needs to remove a cover under the seat. However he is concerned about needing the separate the transmission from the engine. Surely that would not be necessary to replace the filter.<br>Has anyone else had any experience on replacing the filter on this tractor or a similar model.Thanks.<br>

Don't want to interject bad news but here goes, I had a 1300 that had the same symptoms. I had this tractor for several years and one day (just as I was starting to market it for sale) the FWA would not work. The wheels rotated like you described, but when you turned the drive shaft only one wheel would turn. This was not totally unexpected, but..... I decided to pull the front end and after I realized that I could not split the pumpkin, I took the front end to my very good local dealer. The repair was not pretty, $1500 to be exact, I recall that maybe $200 was labor, one ring gear alone was $550. Regardless, if you paid $3K for the tractor, a $1500 bill is not that hard to swallow. Just price the new ones and what this tractor would bring on the market.

I got my new 4600 Today, 460 loader and woods box blade. $23650.00 less blade. What a dream. It works like a Cadallac on that big hill i was worried about. The HST was smooth as silk took about 30Min to handle the loader like a pro. It really does unhook in 3min, off and on in 5min. I put soloution in the R4's and can feel the weight only in the C (high gear) range. It was so stable with the wide mount wheel position that i felt like i must be over confident (very unusual). I am a happy camper today!

This is not an uncommon problem. Your dealer can make an adjustment to the transmission that should take no more than 10 minutes and can be done in the field. Actually, you can probably do it yourself. JD recommends having the problem fixed ASAP due to safety issues.
