Vincent, I've going to take you to task on some of your assertions. I did my own "apples and apples" comparison while shopping this past 6 months between NH, JD, and Kubota. I think the NH-TC33D compares more fairly to the less expensive JD4300, not the 4400, based on the following: Gross hp is 33.0 vs 32.0 vs 35.7, Displacement is 91.3 ci vs 92 ci vs 101 ci (TC33D rated at 2800 rpm vs 2700 rpm on Deeres), Hydraulic equip pump: 7.6 gpm vs 8.3 gpm vs 8.3 gpm, 3-pt lift capacity at 24": 1635 lbs vs 2200 lbs vs 2200 lbs. I know pricing varies alot by region and dealerships, but here in upstate NY I priced a JD4300 equipped similarly to the TC33D (4WD, HST, FROPS, mid-PTO, etc.) with a 420 loader (better specs than 7308) and 47 backhoe (same as 757C) for $23,400 plus tax. I loved the ergonomics and controls on the Boomer, but the JD allowed me to have a belly mower with the backhoe subframe installed (Boomer doesn't), the loader quik-tach was standard, not extra $$$, and I felt that the attachment/detachment ease of the loader and the backhoe were the best in the business. Therefore I had the NH and the JD at roughly equal value, but the JD had some unique capabilities that gave it the edge IN MY SITUATION. Your mileage may vary. My point is that this market is so competitive right now that JD, Kubota, and NH are almost identical in "value" and that the differentiators come down to your specific needs matching unique features, and more importantly, the dealers that you have access to and their quality of service and pricing.

Danny, there are many, many, and I mean many, posts on this subject already. Try searching some threads.

I have the 790 4wd with the 70 loader and use a Sub soiler(which work amazingly well) a 3' rake and I am getting a post hole digger and box scraper next week. I think just about anything will work well with the 790. Just keep it Cat 1. and you will do fine with any toy your heart desires (and your wallet too)

Heres a good gravel road maintainer if anyone has the luck to come across one.I have been using one for several years to maintain a .5 mi road.they have been around for a long time.Its a pony grader that used to be pulled by horse.The one i use is the smaller version and works great behind a compact tractor.I don't think a compact would pull the bigger ones.With 2 people,one on the tractor and one on the grader,you could use it as is,however the one i use has been modafied so one person driving a tractor can operate it.The front end,including axle, wheels,steering,etc.were removed.Than a steel plate was welded to the front of the main beam and a hole drilled in it so you can hitch it up to a 3pt hitch draw bar.Than all you have to do is set the blade angle and height on the grader.Than you can raise and lower the blade with the 3pt control.The road ends up very even because of the distance between the tractor and rear wheels of grader.I'll post a pic when i get a chance.

I have toothbars available.A toothbar for a 6' bucket has 8 teeth, weighs 83
lbs. The teeth stick out about 5" from the cutting edge. To mount requires 2
1/2" holes in the side of the bucket. Bar fits over cutting edge.

Last summer I purchased a Model 116 Tractor. I have really enjoyed using it, and it is almost perfect for the 1.5 acres I cut regularly. I am curious as to the extensibility of this tractor.Does anyone have a list of the options which were available for the 116 in 1985 and which attachments can be used with it? It has a 38" deck now, and I know that it can use a 46" deck and a 42" front blade.Anybody know what else I can do with it?

Chuck, I suspect I did handle my complaint in "the appropriate manner". Walk a mile in my shoes. Or better yet, walk a mile with my dealer. At least it appears that JD is listening.

Tom, your 955 would sell for about $16,000 to $17,500 here in MI. A new 4200 w/just a loader would be $17,500 at best.

I just bought a 4wd 790 with a loader. I looked at the 4100, but the 790 looked stronger, had less plastic, is a time tested design and has more horsepower. I also considered Kubota, but my brief look at their website and discussions with dealers led me to believe the JD customer service was superior. I tried to search for dealers on the Kubota website, but it would only pull up dealers within a fixed distance from my zip. For further dealers, it said to call cust. service - so I did. The CS person could not do any better. I then called some dealers inquiring about an L3000DT and none had even heard of it - even Carver. That's why I went John Deere. I got it for about $14,800 out the door in Sanford, NC

Well I got my tractor running. It really only took a few hours labor and about $100.00 of material including new hydraulic fluid and gear oil. The only problem was getting the hydraulic pump primed. I had to crack (loosen) the bottom line to bleed. Oil blew out all over the place. Other than that pretty simple mechanically.

I agree with Bird, "You pay your money and you take your choice". Either one will do you a good job, it just depends on how comfortable you feel on them, the price (it can vary quite a bit) and the dealer you will be doing business with over the years that you have the tractor. All other things being equal, I'd go with the dealer that you felt most comfortable with and that you thought would be there and be helpful over the years. This may not seem like a very scientific way to reach a decision on a major purchase but you can stare at specification sheets until your eyes glaze over. Go out, drive them both, talk to the dealers and pick the one that fits your needs. Like Bird I have a Kubota (a B2400) which is just about perfect for what I use it for. It may be a little on the small side for some tasks and a little on the big side for others but it will do them all with style and make a good job of them. Whatever color you choose, you'll have a ball. Compact tractors are a lot of fun.

I too have the TC25D, and from all my research I have decided the best course of action in my case would be to buy a 3 point hitch backhoe. You may consider this idea as well. In the long run it will cause fewer problems, and will allow you to keep your 914A. Robert

I recently purchased a 1982 New Holland compact articulating 4wd loader backhoe.<br>It's a nifty machine. It has a 3 cyl Ford diesel engine, hydrostatic drive, and it has 1150 hours. I have seen one of these machines work before and it seemed to have tremendous power. The problem with my machine is that even in low range and at full throttle the wheels do not get much power. In high range you cannot even drive up a moderate hill. The engine runs great and does not bog down. There just seems to be slippage - like a car with a worn out clutch. The loader and the backhoe work but are not quite as powerful as I had hoped.<br> A fellow backhoe owner told me that it sounds like the hydraulic pump is going bad. Does anyone have experience with this sort of problem. Is there any way to adjust or tighten things up? Is it possible to rebuild a pump or would it have to be replaced? Does anyone know what to expect for cost?

I am interested in the price of the turf tires and rims for the 1210. Do the turf tires help with stability of the tractor when turning with the loader bucket up about 3 feet high.

Thank you Jeff. Not that owning the lemon is any honor. As fussy as I am, I may trade it right back with 7 hours on it, as soon as the deck is fixed. I was really close to buying the 2710, but the super steer and operator conveniences sold me on the NH. The machine looks good now, I have some areas to touch up yet, but not too noticeable. What irks me is that it had to be done in the first place. The JD I traded was perfect. The Kabota before that the same.

I had a water pump go out on a Bolens G214,a 21 hp deisel.Isuzu made my engine and I'd check out a cross reference. There are water pump rebuilders out there that any dealer knows about. A new H2O pump cost me $250.There was considerable disassembly of the cowling and removal of the radiadtor to get to the water pump so may as well change V-belt and radiator hoses. I'm not real sure how much different your G194 is. Mine is made by Iseki,crosses to a White Field Boss 21 that AGCO supports. Garden-Way (Troy Bilt),up-state NY insists you go through a dealer for Bolens part.There is an Iseki Yahoo site linked, I hope,below.
