Great subject. Great way to wake up this group also. My two cents.

The best scientific study on the subject I have seen was done for Prolong by SINTEF at the norwegian institute of technology # STF18F87013. Get a copy. It uses the standard block and ring set up which is best at determining ultimate protecton that oil films will give before nothing is left but the metal//metal.

They compared the best mineral oil they could find via the testing (easter US crude bassed) to two different synthetics and also gear oil with and without additives. The tests were on steel to steel and bronze to steel.

The real eye opener was that the sythetics showed much higher wear that the natural oils both with and without additives.

The synthetics were better at temperature reduction and friction reduction. This did not make sence so I re read it over and over again.

The best combo they came up with was the natural oil (word has it that it was Kendal GT turbo) and the 10- 15% additive. The impressive results yealded 15% friction reduction, 36% temperature reduction and 78.8% wear reduction over the straight oil bath. Rub that in you fingers.

Straight up the only advantage to the plastic oil is that the motor will run cooler and pumping will be easier and faster. If you don't need either one, I would save your money. I have been using delvac for the winter benifits and would not if I were in a warmer climate.

I think you've found a deal. I used to have that same backhoe on a 650, and boy was it a great implement. Easy to put on and take off, and it's a diggin son-of -a-gun.

Greg- I don't think respect has anything to do with mechanical objects. My equipment is expensive and requires care and maintenance. This I give it on a regular basis. "luck" was just a word I used, I don't really beleive that I'm lucky that my stuff runs good. Lucky is when you abuse and don't take care of the stuff and it still happens to function. I thought I was running out of room to post a msg. and I don't think I was as clear as I should have been.
1. The battery is dead but we did jump start it and took it for a drive, drove good, no noise, or bad sounds, and it started rite up..
2. He said he bought it from the State Parks Dept.. it is set up with a Belly Mower, I think it had the links from the upper arms but not the center link or the lower lifting arms. My buddy and myself stood on the upper arme 500 lbs + and it did lift us with no problem. (not a good test I know but they did work).

I agree the deal is on the boarder, I guess thats why I was looking for any input.

I WAS TAKING TO A DEALER ABOUT A NEW 45 HP MODEL COMING OUT IN THE SPRING OF 2000. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THIS. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A FRONT END LOADER WITH IT.

I, too, had never heard of a hydrostatic tranny overheating (of course I don't claim to be that experienced either), but I also am a fan of the hydro. Three years ago, when we built my brother's house, he did not want to remove any more trees than absolutely necessary, so when I went to backfill around the foundation with my little B7100, a good friend and neighbor wanted to help, with his big old 85 hp tractor. Now that bigger tractor is fine for plowing, cutting and baling hay, etc., but for maneuvering in the trees and jockeying back and and forth, he didn't last 20 minutes and had to quit because his clutch was literally smoking. And the little B7100 just kept right on going.

Please help. Found '88 Kubota B7200. Owner tell's me it has only 360 hrs. Says it's in very good cond.,not great,not immaculate,haven't seen it. Has ag tires,2wd,was pwr.steering option w/this model? 42" kuhn tiller,toolbar w/discs,sweeps,3 middlebusters,turning plow,4'brushcutter,4'box blade & 3 weights in front. Could someone help price this pkg. assuming all attachments are in avg.cond. Good/bad points of tractor?/or web site to research? Thanks in advance.

I want to thank everyone who answered my last post about my hydrolics. For anyone who didn't see it my hydrolics have quit working. I have cleaned the filter and replaced it but there is no change.<br>Any other ideas?

Duane, Since the 4000 series now replaces the 70's attatchments are getting hard to come by.I have a 1070 with the 440 loader and I also needed a set of pallet forks.After contacting all the JD dealers in Eastern Canada and not finding any I began to look for a set of used forks off a lift truck. I found a set of 42in. ones and had a frame made up by the local welding shop.At the same time I brought in the loader bucket and had them make a quick attatch system like the new 4000's.I can now switch from the bucket to the forks in seconds single handed.The forks were $100.00 and the frame and quick attatch system another $250.00
This tractor also had a back hoe but was not included in the deal but the hydralic outlets are there and they are controled by a valve on the left side of the seat down near the four wheel drive lever.You could instal your grapple arm to work off this control.I am in the process of making one to use with the forks.Great way to pickup logs.
I tried both the three point log spliters and the totaly independent ones and bought a stand alone. I just found it more practical to set the splitter up near the open wood shed and the log pile. I saw the logs then split them and stack the wood in the shed for drying.
The most practical attatchment that I have is a winch that mounts on the three point and I use it in the winter to haul the trees that I cut down.This way the tractor stays on the road and with the 150ft. of cable I can snake out the trees on the snow.The logs stay clean and you don't damage the other trees by driving through them with the tractor.
Check the antifreeze and the engine oil viscosity -40 is damm cold!

Thank-you everyone for your response, I finally got to a J.D. dealer that was willing to open his book and look for what I was asking for and with your help I was informed enough to make him find it. I 've order the kit and should have it next week.

Just a note to let everyone that the clutch shim kit that was installed seems to have done the trick. No more counting to three,,,,,, I worked the machine hard last weekend and all is going quite well. Now there is no more grinding than on any other gear shift that I have owned.

Normally:

Live/Continuous is also refered to as a 2 stage clutch (like the Ford/NH 1720 has). Depress the clutch halfway, the tractor motion stops but the PTO keeps running. Depress the clutch all the way, both stop.

Independant Live is a completely seperate clutch and lever to control the PTO (like the Deere 4000's have). Tractor travel is controlled by the foot clutch (or hydro pedal) and PTO engagement is controlled by a seperate lever. Stopping one has no effect on the other (tractor vs. PTO)

Transmission driven means the PTO is driven off of the same final drive as the tractor transmission and thus controlled by the same clutch pedal. So, you depress the clutch to stop the tractor and the PTO stops as well.

I think you might find some minor variations to my description, but the overall theory is the same.

I bought a loader tooth bar from sheafer equipment, & it made my modle 70 loader increase its digging capabilities from night to day! I dug a 20 x20 hole for my basement.
